blkisleboy 07-08-08, - 11:40 PM [QUOTE=adidasboi987;298284]LOL...thanks I knew where to look... this topic has been discussed extensively on this forum before... what I wanted to highlight though is Mr. All Knowing didnt know the difference between the Police Act and the Criminal Procedure Codes...but i'm not suprised...[/QUOT
Adidas or whoever you are! I NEVER claim to know it all as you put it!!! or i wouldnt have to read books duh!! I only said what i read!!!!!!!!!! thank you!
bahamiangoddess 07-08-08, - 11:41 PM Goddess seems like you and I have SOMETHING in common, WE read in other to know our Rights! I try and buy any law book I can afford! wow They are expensive though!! Thank God for the internet now you can read MOST of them for free! I bought the constitition, the penal code, SOME of the statute laws cuz there are lots of VOLUMES! the hawksbill creek agreement , and the customs tariff book ! It almost broke me!!! lol
The collection is costly but worth it, a lot of that info is now online!
My first degree is in Law & Criminal Justice. The Criminal Procedure Code was a topic studied in one of my classes.
I have said before that, I strongly believe that C.P.C has armed members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force with certains powers, which when used INCORRECTLY AND IN THE WRONG HANDS can lead to matters such as the Desmond Key issue and what we speak of today.
The biggest beef I have is the power of SUSPICION!! Plenty people are stopped on a daily basis and are hassled because of that word. Something must be wrong with that.

adidasboi987 07-08-08, - 11:50 PM Adidas or whoever you are! I NEVER claim to know it all as you put it!!! or i wouldnt have to read books duh!! I only said what i read!!!!!!!!!! thank you!
it is obvious that you don't know it all... but thats not the issue here really...
Firstly your citation doesnt account for the variable where an "arrest" is unlawful... those powers awarded to an officer are not valid where an arrest is unlawful... which was the base for my argument in this thread...but strangely enough in posting this you showed your own ignorance to the law itself... IRONIC
Secondly you posted something that is common knowledge to most Bahamians...and surely those who are members of this forum... in an attepmt to make yourself appear rights and justify the actions of your colleagues...
My plea in this thread is for those members of the public who are reading this to familiarize themselves with every aspect of the law pertaining to their rights as a citizen... an officer in uniform (or out) does not by virtue of being an officer have the right to superceed or deny my rights as a Bahamian...Fight the police??... HELL NO... Willfully hand over your rights to pig-headed officers to pander to their swollen egos??...HELL NO!!!..
YardManPickney 07-09-08, - 12:20 AM Well i used to live in Gb, but it seem like Gb boy n Bike isle dont undastand the realities that make the two islands different. Yes, no one is arguing that the majority of police officers are good. Now, however its these rogue police officers in the minority who make bad name for police officers keepin in mind people and the public remember negative instances more than they do positive. Also, many people here in n.p. Good and Bad have felt the abuse of some kind from these rogue cops and the problem is, that when these miscarriages of justice happen people feel many times justifiably so that these rogue officers will not be brought to justice. I think no one is ignorant to the fact that the police have a difficult job in hand when one considers that expectations are high from the public but also that many in the public are suspicious about the police. Especially those in down trodden areas when the only time the police are seen is when one in the community is to be taken away. So, it has to be a collective agreement between citizens and police officers to bridge the divide. Things like community patroling and etc where the community becomes familiar with police officers are good steps in ensuring a healthy relationship.
theman 07-09-08, - 08:51 AM my friend all of what i said was obviously lost to you due to your hatred of police officers! first of all, your assumption that because I SUPPORT the hard working officers who sacrifice their lives daily for someone like YOU, I must be one of them is wrong! but thanks for classing me with such great company! NOW let me see if I can make clear even to YOU what I said before! IF a police officer arrests you unlawfully, GO peacefull with him!! later you WILL be able to get your rights SOMEWHERE!! I also said should you continue to resist the police At an arrest , that you will be killed! and chanes are that you will should you continue as they do have all rights to use ANY means necessary to affect that arrest! I NEVER and WILL never say that the police have a right to arrest anyone abitrarily!
What i said before and will say again, is Should the police come to arrrest you without reason, GO ALONG PEACEFULLY! as you WILL have your chance to take action later in other more equal forum! because YOU WILL NOT WIN AT THE SCENE!! I hope u understand me more clearly now my friend!!!
you are so wrong bro the law says, JUSTIFIABLE FORCE to kill some one for a misdemeanor i cannot and will not be justfied....to KILL someone can be easily said, but when your behind is doing the bank lane shuffle you are going to blame everyone else except yourself who made a false judgement...
to use your fire arm should be the last resort after you have exhausted all avenues i say get yourself in shape lay off the booze then you will be able to effect an arrest without the use of deadly force:hammer:....just a word of advice to you rookie:sparky: this is the Bahamas not IRAQ
FACTS ONLY 07-09-08, - 09:29 AM this is one of the main problems in bahamas. is he a deacon or a pastor or police office and even so what does one have to do with the other.
THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS!!
(or something like that)
I feel for Hanna when he's on TV wadding though the mud of what is called his crime report. He has to choose his words so carefully that he ends up sounding like and idiot. (to me at least)
I'm sure he can't wait for the day he goes into the church FULLTIME!!
FACTS ONLY 07-09-08, - 09:40 AM I am sitting here reading the pure hate threads for the person who put their lives on the line for anungrateful buch of criminal defenders, and the answer becomes very clear to me why nassau is so crime ridden and people being killed daily! listen people!! The Royal Bahamas Police with all of their faults are one of the best and most efficient forces in the world! check the statistics!! Do you people REALLy believe that officers just sat in the station and decided for absolutely no reason to go and of all the persons in nassau ,that they would go to this man house at 1am in the morning, and arrest this peaceful innocent man?? but then obviously that is what you believe!! how utterly stupid! however, let me think as rediculously as you, asnd assume that that is what happened. What would it take off this decent innocent lawabiding citizen to go with the police peacefully, and if the accusations were false, after he is allowed to go(and he would be allowed to go at some point) go to the authorities and report the behaviour of the police Or seek legal counsel even? A little note here to you ignorant persons, the police in affecting an arrest, wether it is justified or not at the time, may use ANY and ALL means necessary to affect that arrest! I live in freeport, and we have our problems here like anywhere BUT the reason we havent reach the stage where you are in nassau is because MOST persons including criminals here in freeport for the most part STILL respect the Police!! NOTICE I DID NOT SAY LIKE, i said RESPECT! For What its worth!
So lemme get this straight, the police are some kind of beings who are not subjected to the faults of us civilians? AYE? They cannot be critised? Thats what you saying?
I recall the other day we were all applauding them for their bravery and the way they were able, despite all odds against them to arrest the bank robbers and protect civilian lives.:bouncy:
So are you saying ALL we should do is praise them? You've got to be joking!!
If heaven forbid I have a robbery or any matter in which I have to call the police, I will do so because that is what I have to do. I would never dream however, of calling the police because my friend/boyfriend who I gave a fan and DVD player to I now want them back!! Or any matter so trivial like how Delroy took way my blue stars because that is all this police visit turned out to be.:hammer:
And to think that 'poor' Hulan had to come on with what appears was a bogus story, given the fact that the suspect is NOT arrested and the police are NOT pursuing the matter any further shows that we cannot belives EVERYTHING we are told by them.
If you can't get that somethings wrong with YOU!!
bahama_rudest 07-09-08, - 10:37 AM All I would say to you Police haters in Nassau is you comtinue to hate and resist the Police, but remember this, when you are Fatally killed in the course of an arrest ( and you will be IF you DO!) You will be GONE!! The Police as an organisation wil ALWAYS be here! it will be your CHILDREn who will live with the lost of an ignorant parent who died ONLY because they were to STUPID to know that YOU WILL NOT WIN in a battle with law inforcement at the time of an arrest! Think about it!!
i wouldnt go as far as to say the police will kill you in the course of an arrest but i wud simply like to know from all those that bash the police constantly, which number will be the first number you dial when you get robbed at gunpoint, carjacked, house broken into, threatened, or wateva they case. i wonder if you would dare pick up a fone to dial 911. all im saying is yes you have bad apples on the force just as any organization in any country. but to judge the entire force is very stupid and ignorant of you.
postmortem 07-09-08, - 10:52 AM this story all mix up cuz the man admitted that wen officers said he was lock up he ask why and resisted. so i assume if someone resist then the police must become more physical. during this i guess his mother stepped in to intervene and probably was threatened and pushed off thats when he admitted on news to becoming more physical. my thing is if you ain do nothing wrong and the police want to arrest you why not jus go and sort it out. why put up a fight. if the police was wrong in arresting you then they would look stupid when its time for them to release you. everyone jus wants to act the fool these days. in the states they would readily obey authorities so why not do the same for our own officers
are you serious
because sometimes innocent people die in the custody of the police
sometimes they are brutalized by officers, sometimes by other prisoners
in some caribbean countries they have had massive legislative overhauls because holding people on remand is tantamount to a life sentence due to violence and the vulnerability to HIV/AIDS

if he had simply go and knew he wasnt innocent then he wouldve been questioned and released. if he was beat up in the process then go to the complaints unit. its simple protocol in situations like that. why take the law in your own hands when it suits you. but for his stupidity in resisting arrest he couldve potentially brought on real case of resisting arrest against him. if it got really violent then he couldve added assualt on an officer to it. the man admitted on national news that he fought the police. is that not confession enough? be reminded when you condone such actions you encourage the youths to follow the same direction. no wonder you hav even primary schoolers calling the police "pigs" and "babylon". there is hardly any support for the police but yet people cry and say the police ain doin their job when a crime is committed against them. what encouragement do they have when they kno they try to help someone to only have people like yall bringing their integrity down.

OK, we have tow stories, one by the police spokesman and the other by the witness. DIFFERENT STORIES BTW!!
According to the resident of the house, the woman police officer sent A MAN and TWO POLICE OFFICERS to his home to COLLECT a fan and DVD player she had given him.
According to the police report to the Tribune yesterday, the police went to this home at ONE AM to retrieve STOLEN ITEMS!!
WHICH ONE IS IT?
According to the resident, he attempted to give the items to the 'persons' at his door but they refused to take them so he dropped the items in front of them and shut his door.
It was THEN, according to the resident that the policeman told him they come ta lock him up!!
I do not condone fighting with the police nor do I condone police brutality.
One thing is CERTAIN!! This story started off WRONG. It got worse. Tree shots were fired. One person was left with wounds. The police spokesman has said they are "NOT PURSUING THE MATTER ANY FURTHER."
It sure gives me the impression that 'SOME' in the force abuse their powers.
