To be honest, and not trying to put you off, but any conch that has been dried the old fashioned way, that is hanging in bunches outside on the line, unless it has been well brined first, is likely to have been visited by quite a lot of flies. The drying process should have killed off anything that they would have left behind. But you may well be eating more than just the conch.

That is why I scald, throw off the water and boil again.

Thorough cooking will destroy any gremlins that might be lurking :) Uncooked dried conch tastes very good though, if you are sure of its source.
