I brought this up in another thread but am going to ask my question again.

Does anyone know where I can find the statistics/details for unsolved murders in the Bahamas for say the past 75 years?

We don't have murders over here very often but there was a double one back in the early 90's which to my knowledge has never been solved, or at least I don't think anyone has ever gone to jail for it. I would really like to find out some more info.

there are a few which have never officially gone down as murders here one exuma... i think they've been classified as missing persons..

the rub.. (this was back when I was in high school)

a few miles down the road from my house, in the settlement of hartswell there was a real strange foreigner who built a lil juk-juk garage on some property just off the main road.

now, hardly anyone knew this man and we all basically stayed away because... well.. he was livin inna garage, so obviously sumtin wrong wit him right? anyway I digress.

the years went by and then all of a sudden he just picked up and left the island. over the last few years the stories of what he have started to come out. during the time he was here he was married twice.. both times, when he brought his wives here they never returned to the US, the common theory around here (through some people who have been involved in the investigation) was that he took his wives out fishing over the drop off, tying them to a rope attached to an anchor (more than likely an engine block) and then dropping them over the side... never to be found.

and this story is also a little personal... because I remember one day, we were out fishing and i saw this guys' boat going out, and i will swear to this day, there were two people in the boat and the bow was noticeably low in the water, while on the way back in, i could only see one person and whatever weight was in the bow was no longer.

unfourtunately my account could never be taken as actual evidence because the investigators stated that I was too far away to make a reliable sighting. that and they didnt believe me because i was a young boy.

Good question. I'll ask around, but I'm not sure you're going to get the answers you're looking for.

I know that recently in the annual police report they list the numbers of murders for the year and how many were solved. I just wondered if anyone had complied the stats for over the years. I would also think that somewhere there should be a list of who was murdered, by who (if known) and what the outcome was. Of course with no Freedom of Information Act in place I suppose that we are not entitled to know those things.

The Andros case I am thinking about had many similarities to the Harry Oakes case and I would really like to know what came of it.

interesting. There were a few murders here on Nassau that was classified as homocides. I wonder if that status has been changed, subsequently increasing the murder count for last year??

:jawdroop:Just as a point of interest, most Family Island murders go unsolved or underclassified. There have been a number of murders in Long Island in the past 25 years that no one has ever been charged for. The local saying is that all murders in Long Island go unsolved, the latest being last weekend. It is scary out in the islands!

What is even more interesting about these unsolved murders and murders are that the Police appear to want to distort the murders, its as if they dont want to report these murders or report them as murders. Its as if they think everytime theres a murder its a reflection on their work , you must not keep this vital information away from people just because you think it jeopardizes or sheds a bad light on your job.

Isn't there a guy serving time for it in prison now? As I recall at one time he was in fear for his life and refusing to eat any of the prison food because he said he thought someone would poison him.but what is interesting when he was charged i remember specifically that the charge said that he and another committed the crime.....the "other" was never named or charged....things dat make ya go WT...
