If he is not, he should be one. He is ALWAYS available to speak to traffic issues. One of a handful who is able to speak/think on his feet.

He is also an MC, able to imitate both Ingraham and Christie to a TEE!!

I agree....I have always been impressed with him. One time I went to get my licence renewed, he was there and participated in calling names of those whose licences were ready. A most personable and capable public servant!

Sometime this is exactly where we need people like him. The P.S's in the public service usually have a wealth of knowledge that is hardly seen and used. Instead they are behind a desk, writing letters, advising the Minister and passing instructions.

Just like a lot of veteran teachers with the "know how" to get students to learn, they are sitting in an office in the Ministry of Education doing everything else except, the art that they have perfected, TEACHING!

No, he is not a PS. Yes, he should be one.

He is the head of the Road Traffic Department. I'm not sure what the position is called. Maybe Road Traffic Controller.

Jack Thompson is the Comptroller of the Department of Road Traffic.
He was transferred as Officer in Charge of the Passport Office to Road Traffic.

Under his watch at the Passport Office, many many problems and irregularities plagued that office. There were reasons why he was transferred to head another department instead of being promoted to P.S status.

I finally understand this post. It only took about5 read-throughs. Haha. It's true that people like him should probably be in positions that require working with people and answering to the public.

As for your next post... I don't know what you're talking about there. There are major issues at the Passport Office, under any/everyone's watch. Lots of progress was made while he was there, and there seemed to be a step or two backward when the new guy stepped it, but there is quite a learning curve in there.

There are also "reasons" for everyone being moved from one department to the next. It seems to me that he goes wherever there is chaos and foolishness going on to straighten things out.

I knew him from the 80s when he was a teacher.....

He started the first marching band in South Andros!!

He was an awesome band leader and his band played at every important and some not so important events back then...When he left Andros the band was destroyed...

They used to be fun to watch perform....He is a no nonesense man and believes in getting things done....He is a great MC and a well known one at that!!!

I spoke to him the other day but he is always in a hurry because he is always trying to get somewhere....

I think that he will make a great PS......

The Fred Mitchell haters ( me sometimes ) may say what they want, but the Passport Office was efficient when he was in charge in my experience. I did not have to wait in a line, and it was ready on time. Maybe it was a slow time of year? As to jack Thompson, he has to make Undersecretary first, which is at least two positions below PS.

It's usually crazy there during the summer months. Lots of people wait until the week before they are travelling to take their passport along with their four children's passports to be renewed. Lol. Maybe people just don't know that passports can be renewed up to six months before they expire. The Passport Office should probably start letting the public know that from March by using newspaper articles or something of the sort.

Hold off as long as you can, this is not just the summer rush, they are converting to the new e-passport so the line is extra long.

Remember that you can also call for an appointment to avoid the lines.

My book does not expire until 2010, but come January I will be applying for the new book.
