Yeah, guess we just have to continue to keep our hope strong. After a while some of the young folks are going to cause the govt to make some big changes. Watch those two guys who glued themselves to the mace just before the last election. Only trouble, after a long while and a change of govt happens, the new people run the country very well for a couple years then they go right back into that mode of doing all kind of wrong things, "looking out for themselves" as it is said.

Those "two Guys" that glued themselves to the Mace leave me cold! They were trying to re in-act something that happened many years ago. At that time the mace represented a foreign power, with power over us. Today, that same mace represents that same foreign power but it has little power over us. I think it is safe to say that the mace represent us! It represents order, our order.

Their act was foolish because it did nothing and means nothing. What we need is a new breed of leader. Someone who willing sit down and talk with us and the powers at be. Someone who will sway us, and unite, with his (or her) logic. We need a person of wisdom and common sense and understanding. Then that person must be backed by the majority of the people because he will represent the majority view. As things stand now, there is no such person. Also, I feel that the majority does not want change, and if they do, they have not settled their minds as to what this change should be. Each man is sticking to his agenda and he is not willing to compromise.

Hopefully, a leader as I have described will arise, but don't look for him in the near future. I see no such person.

Well CG...I think I see one...but don't know if he will be given the chance he deserves. I have always thought to myself that we do not need Lawyers or Religious people leading the country.......what we need is a businessman....people have their opinions but rationally we all should agree that this is true.......

In conclusion....that person is Brent Symonette.

I know the Gentleman in question. If we were a society that was fair and not riddled with race hatred (people have posted on this site that they would never vote for a White man) he might stand a chance. But you know that the PLP would play the "race card" and bring up his father, the former leader of the UBP. If I were Mr. Symonette. I would not expose myself to the inevitable abuse. If by some rare chance he should win the seat as the PM, every Black Bahamian would never tire of, nor miss the opportunity, to blame his colour for everything that went wrong.

True. We need, not only a good leader, but a complete mind change in the way we look at people who lead us - and the way we look at ourselves.

There is a saying, "when the student is ready the teacher appears," We might amend that to say, "when the people are ready a leader will appear."

that says alot about why people get into politics in this country, to make money , when that should not be the aim at all.

I have some doubts that B.J. would make a good PM, reason being he used to be a part of the government of the late sir Lynden (I think he was also a minister in the govt), and in all those years, why didn't he try to implement all these good ideas/suggestions he wants to implement now!?

I agree with Rizzo that lawyers don't seem to make good administrators -- we have had many of them for a long time and we are still in much trouble! Maybe the reason the old UBP ran the country so well was because they were mostly businessmen!

CG, I feel that there are many blacks who would accept any colour PM if they are confident he'd do the right thing and run the country well. I recall a couple years before the PLP first won the government, a number of elderly black men whom I respected felt strongly that black leadership woulld not be successful in running the government. The more I told them to give our own colour a chance, the more they disagreed!

And the young people decided to bring about the change. I think the whole structure of our govt needs to be changed before we can get good governance. I believe there are wise and intelligent people in govt, but they most likely have to toe the party line, be a team player, as they say, and keep their mouths shut when their agenda differs from that of cabinet, even if their plans are good for the country!

Yeah, what those guys did with the mace might not have been a decent thing to do, but how the then govt cut up the boundry was not too decent either! Not everyone has that kind of disposition to be cool calm and collective in the face of stark bad treatment. Not really exonerating them, but those 2 guys just might have gotten completely tired of being fed up UP TO "HERE" and just lost their cool and did what they did!

Violence is never good and no one in their right mind would want it, but if our leaders continue to neglect the country and its people, there is no telling what would happen!

All depends of history...if the two guys ever get in power, their simple act will go down in history as something great....

This is true. The victors write the history. Just like Pindling and Butlers act of vandalism on Black Tuesday. It has been turned into a heroic act, but it was just vandalism.

This maybe true, but there are not enough of these enlightened beings. The PLP has done too good a job in convincing the "grass roots" that the White man is not to be trusted. Yet, when one looks at the history of some of our Black leaders, are they to be trusted?

One day we wll see that a man is a man. Honor, honestly, decency, have no colour.

While the grassroots may be swayed by the issue of color, I propose a different theory why Symonette may be blocked as leader (by his own, no less) - Many of our politicial powers-that-be do not like the idea of one of the most financially influentual men also having the power of running this nation.

It would be a tough fight to get the country's leadership out of his hands once he gets it.

I also think that perhaps he should challenge for leadership of the FNM. It will appear to the politically uninitiated as if the FNM is fighting within itself, but competition always breeds success and improvement in the long term. Symonette (if he hasn't done so as yet) needs to come up with his own clear and solid plan for this nation. Once that is done, then he needs to make it public - Let the people decide what he has to offer. If Ingraham decides to come back, he would need to do the same thing. Let the people know what his plan is if the FNM recaptures power.

When I think about it, I would like to see the same for anybody who will be in the position of running this country - Detailed steps of what will be done when once they reach power, complete with timelines and projected budgets. Dont just write down what you're possibly going to do. ANYONE can do that.

We need master plans for this country that are feasible even if that person does not make it into power. Keep the government on their toes. Third world ideologies, promises and power struggles need not apply. One's plan should be so well-thought out that it would be feasible to implement without having the power of the government. All of our political parties have some excellent minds, but these minds are wasted on petty struggles. Don't tell me what you are going to do, IF you are voted in as the government. Figure out a way to get things done regardless and just do it for the betterment of the country!

There is that possibility.

So was said about Pindling, I think Mr Symonnette has enough respect for the nation that once voted out he would leave in a good grace - as his predecessors did.

I too would like to see our would-be leaders come to us with a plan, then update that plan as situations require.

CG I disagree what The PLP did was just use the actions of the majority of White men in this Country against them.Lets please call a spade a spade Racism is alive & kicking in this country even if we want to make nice on this board. As to the Black leaders ? it depends on what context this ? is being asked.ps I'm not saying all whites are racist but since we semm to be generalizing up in here. In the words of Robert Nestor Marley's song "Until the colour of a man's skin........Every where it's war."
