Easily swayed by emotion, perhaps, but not ignorant. The very fact that it did not "work" after a while shows that the voters saw through it.

"Roots" was used as race propaganda. "Look what the White man will do if us PLP ain't here" was the clear message that some Black friends told me they saw. I did not see it myself, it was just a darn good movie.

I cant believe this, I have never heard of this. and the Bahamian people played right into it? That's why its so important to invest in the Bahamian youth as so they will be intelligent and wise productive citizens.

Dear Tia, you will be surprised to know what some politicians will do to win a seat.

Yeah, Roots was a pretty good movie. But after the PLP played the race card so strongly in their campaigns, then they would show Roots to more or less back up their wicked campaign speeches! They also used to show some other cheap movies showing whites mistreating blacks. Heavens knows where they got them from, 'cause you never see them on other channels -- I used to wonder if they used to pay some company to produce them specially for their propaganda!

Also, many of us seem to be so loyal to a political party that we become blind to any wrong they may do! This is a big problem!

There is one thing which a party once was planning to overthrow the then government that was SO atrocious and ghastly, no one would think that a group of Bahamians would ever even think of such a thing! I mentioned it once or twice in confidence to a few friends, but I decided not to disclose it anymore, it will make some of the young peolple sick!

CG this says alot about your friends. As to the voting I have been told by my forefathers that they would always vote PLP based on how they were treated by the white man & they did not need any movie to help them. Also the change in govt came about when the people who was born in the 60's & 70's outnumbered the older folks, because we did not have an affinity to what they were talking about. So there is no conspiracy.

Yet again loyalty to a party instead of loyalty to what is best for the Bahamas as a whole. I say party politics has this country heading down a crooked path. I have heard ppl say stupid things like "I would vote for a potcake, long as they were PLP or FNM." It is a good thing that the older generation, are being replaced by the younger generation, as harsh as that is, this country needs folk that dont use the race card as a vehicle for voting in any political party.

I dn't think it was loyalty to a party, but more that they abhored what a particular party stood for.And say what you want the race card always has & always will come into play in elections world wide. Can you say Utopia :sarcastic

But it is depressing the progress of this country. We are so caught up in the past, that we cannot even focus on the future. Yes I realize that race will always come up in politics, but thank God there are Bahaminas out there willing to overlook race, and look at what the individual has to offer the country. As a young person I dont want to hear about the days of the UBP, we have accomplished too much to be focusing on that. I want to hear what are you going to do for me, and for this country in the present, because if you are going to focus on the past, you wont get my vote.

Would have, or would? To vote because of race is pure DUMB and Ignorant.

Either way, thats pretty stupid, cause im sure there are White PLP as there are White FNM .. i mean, do you see any all white political parties in the Bahamas today??? Its a black country .. duhhh...

isnt that what you tell us you would like to do...
you said it yourself that the bahamian standard of living has gone down since plp and majority rule...so does that mean you do vote for your kind, or would?

i am sure that if you go into montague...a black man from lest say even "san souci" would recieve minimal success compared to that of a white man from "bain town"..like a white man from bain town is likely!!

Do you think this is the same thing that is going on now with the illegal haitian mass, they want their voice in government to be heard and will get it simply because of share number value. Or maybe I'm looking too deep into this? That's why the black majority got it, is that why its time for the Haitian populace to have their day?

You must make the distinction between the older corrupted generation and the forward thing older generation, there is a difference.

you have the right to marry whoever you want to...
but the church and state have the right to recognize or not to recognize!

up to you..if you want a silent beach wedding, or "what i know you want to do"..have a big fluffy one, and shove it in the face of everyone!!

I am married to a wonderful woman. Also under the law the state can't refuse me to marry my wife if we were not married and wanted to marry. Legally I am male. If I were to marry her again you are darn tooten it would be an all out in your face fluffy affair. Nothing but brides and brides maids.

Y2kbad Want to be my maid of honor?

I remember it all to well.
Cuonta kinta (spelling off) was the guy the story was built around. But what was not highlighted was the begining where the cheif sold his people to the white man.

I know the story of roots all well, i watch every 5 years its rather lengthy, roots the next generation, queen - all of um!

I was simply stating that i cant believe the PLP would play on the black unknowing mass' intelligence to remind us of slavery in that light. When in all inference should be placed on the mind (open a book) and not tuning into a tube screen for knowledge on history past- everything is so sensationalized on TV.

Don't give me white man garbage here. My Dad worked in the machine shop public works under the UBP. He was always passed for promotion and they would bring in a foreigner whom my Dad had to train. Oh and by the way my Dad is white. Most of the roads and water system that went in during the last part of WW2 and just after, only happened because my Dad created the imposable from the RAF scrap yard. To this day when I am with him guys who remember him are always walking up to him and saying thank you to him. One man even talked how he was just the floor sweep in the machine shop and how Dad taught him machining and taught him about a clean workshop. He says its is so in his work shop to this day.
Most of the people in power back then were foreigners and they were white. They looked down on any Bahamian. Just as we now look down on our selves.
How many of us buy a foreign product when there is a Bahamian product available Ok so the Bahamian product might not be as good or it might be a few $ more but who do you want to keep employed a Bahamian or a foreigner.
