View Full Version : Finally the Lord has answered our prayers
Vicky 04-05-05, - 02:48 PM I know the story of roots all well, i watch every 5 years its rather lengthy, roots the next generation, queen - all of um!
I was simply stating that i cant believe the PLP would play on the black unknowing mass' intelligence to remind us of slavery in that light. When in all inference should be placed on the mind (open a book) and not tuning into a tube screen for knowledge on history past- everything is so sensationalized on TV.
When these politicians want to get into power and keep it they will play with peoples ignorance.
Just look at what Bush did with WMDs and the gay marriage issue. ( not trying to open the gay issue here just pointing out recent events.
Great Demos 04-05-05, - 08:56 PM But it is depressing the progress of this country. We are so caught up in the past, that we cannot even focus on the future. Yes I realize that race will always come up in politics, but thank God there are Bahaminas out there willing to overlook race, and look at what the individual has to offer the country. As a young person I dont want to hear about the days of the UBP, we have accomplished too much to be focusing on that. I want to hear what are you going to do for me, and for this country in the present, because if you are going to focus on the past, you wont get my vote.
Teniel, you are 100% correct here! One long time ago there used to be many diehard racist Bahamians, but I believe most of them have died out. People are more enlightened now, and yet many of us blacks still seem to have our heads stuck in some kind of time warp.
It used to be said that the majority of any country is ignorant, which the politicians knew by heart and loved to take advantahge of the ignorant masses. But I doubt that this "ignorant majority" bit still applies. People should really be more intelligent these days, vote sensibly and demand better governance from our reps!

that is where the problem lies, we dont demand better. We just except the status quo and move on mumbling undertones, but not speaking up. You cant forget your past, nor do I dwell on it, if anything it helps us remember whence we have come so we can appreciate the opportunities we have now (clearly something the pompus arrogant elected officials tend to forget)
RockWell 04-05-05, - 10:52 PM Do you think this is the same thing that is going on now with the illegal haitian mass, they want their voice in government to be heard and will get it simply because of share number value. Or maybe I'm looking too deep into this? That's why the black majority got it, is that why its time for the Haitian populace to have their day?
Why is there all this back an forth when all I did is make a statement to CG concerning the reason to why the older generation voted PLP verus his reasoning that it was because of roots. Are you white

To clear matters up, I did not say the PLP victories were because of "Roots." The movie was but one item, a small one at that, in the PLP's bag of tricks. It would not work today, of that I am sure.

So why does the PLP need a bag of tricks to win an election?CG please tell me how you would put it when the FNM won.

Why do you ask a person the color of their skin? There are both blacks and whites that hold the view that 'Roots' was a propoganda peice in the PLP of Sir Lynden. If Tiaesq says she is white, what do you assume from that. What if she tells you she is black, or Chinese?

Initially, the PLP did not. But as time passed and they saw their power being eroded they pulled out the "Roots" trick. All political parties have their bag of tricks that are used when the party gets desperate. Some of those "tricks" are effective for a time then they are replaced with other things. That is the way the political game is played.
But the way, the FMN won because people were tired of the PLP and their "tricks." They soon got tired of the FNM and their "tricks." I wonder when a party will try plan old honesty and give up trying to trick?
Great Demos 04-06-05, - 04:59 PM CG, I agree with this and I agree with Teniel's last post. I am really losing Marichal, can't seem to understand where he's coming from anymore.
Maybe its my fault, being as I am, fed up UP TO "HERE" with ALL political parties in this country. Maybe Marichal is too young to have seen the dirty tricks these parties have. But wait, ya ga see some BIG ones soon 'cause 2007 een far!
I became fed up with the PLP after the first 5 years of the old PLP's administration. I became fed up with the FNM after the Hon Hubert Ingraham raised MP's salary much higher than it was when he had first reduced it! [When he first reduced it, man I thought he was an angel! What a great man to cut his own salary for the benefit of his country!?]
Like I have said on a number of threads, only 2 things I believe will allow us to have good governance in this country. 1) A complete restructuring of the government, including the departments, corporations, police, defense force, etc. [Shouldn't the speaker of the house be someone who is not a member of the house?] 2) our keeping the reps feet to the fire by speaking out, demonstrations and telling them in no uncertain terms the kind of country we'd like to have.
Watching the governance of the country for the last 51 years now, I could write an encyclopedia on the things that went down that were not fair. And seeing that the situation has just gotten progressively worse over the years, it is almost impossible for me to have an iota or respect for people called politicians!

It's simple Demos I'm just wonderin about all the hostility against the PLP Here. And yes I am young compared to some of the people on here ( mid 30's) But I have worked closely with 3 govts so far an I can tell you that they all did major damage. 4yrs under old PLP, 10 under the FNM an the rest under this PLP.An I can tell you from the things said about the good the FNM did was total BS they were just as corrupt & inefficent as everybody else & maybe more so.Also as to the black and white thing it still exist today just more low key like how CG an others on here try play it of but if you really look at some of their comments. See me I'm not shame to say that when I speak I speak from a Black prospective because that is who I am an will always be,unlike others who try to play different.I say we are culturally different and always will be & untill we stop foolin each other like it does not make a difference then we will never really move forward in solving our differences.

To be quite honest in most majority black countries corruption is evasive and a key factor in the country's growth and prosperity everywhere.
Bahamian is Bahamian and we will all suffer in some way, if the Bahamian people dont get it together that this "get me, me" attitude is killing us all.

Yes we are culturally different, but we are all Bahamians. If you were MP, would your loyalty be only to black Bahamians or every Bahamian regardless of colour. It's discriminatory just the same as if a white perosn does it. I am neither PLP or FNM, I am Bahamian, and believe, who ever is capable gettin my vote. This country in too much of a mess to be concentrating, on how much pigmentation in their skin.
