Yes we are culturally different, but we are all Bahamians. If you were MP, would your loyalty be only to black Bahamians or every Bahamian regardless of colour. It's discriminatory just the same as if a white perosn does it. I am neither PLP or FNM, I am Bahamian, and believe, who ever is capable gettin my vote. This country in too much of a mess to be concentrating, on how much pigmentation in their skin.
I never said to Concentrate on skin pigmentation  Just that it plays a factor in our day to day life & certain decisions we make. And also that playing like it does not exist is just as bad as someone who concentrates soley on this aspect of their existence be they Black or White.

How so? I have never experieced racism and discrimination by white bahamians. How does that play into my everyday life. Could you please explain?

It's simple Demos I'm just wonderin about all the hostility against the PLP Here. And yes I am young compared to some of the people on here ( mid 30's) But I have worked closely with 3 govts so far an I can tell you that they all did major damage. 4yrs under old PLP, 10 under the FNM an the rest under this PLP.An I can tell you from the things said about the good the FNM did was total BS they were just as corrupt & inefficent as everybody else & maybe more so.Also as to the black and white thing it still exist today just more low key like how CG an others on here try play it of but if you really look at some of their comments. See me I'm not shame to say that when I speak I speak from a Black prospective because that is who I am an will always be,unlike others who try to play different.I say we are culturally different and always will be & untill we stop foolin each other like it does not make a difference then we will never really move forward in solving our differences.

Marichal, I don't know that there is all that hostility against the PLP here; I think people here are just trying to face reality. And if it were the FNM in power operating inefficiently, I believe the same folks here would be saying the same things. [Hope you are not one of those diehard PLPs, 'cause if that's the case, we could talk till Doomsday and you'd never be able to see where I am coming from -- I know whereof I speak, I've met many of them; nothing really wrong with people like that, I guess, that's their choice, but IMHO, they are blind! blinded by party loyalty!]

And if you are agreeing that both PLP and and FNM govts were corrupt, etc, I would think you should see that we are trying to be realistic, NOT showing hostility. You seem to be concentrating on this "black perspective" very much; don't you think that could cloud your mind and cause you not to notice it even if the whites were to treat you perfectly humanely!?

I have met many white Bahamians like CG, who really are NOT hanged up on this colour thing and would treat everyone equally regardless of colour. Many times they would treat us better than our own black people! At your age and with your experience, I would have thought that you would have experienced that at various times!

In the case of tiaesq, it is possible that she could be working with a white-owned company where the owners are enlightened enough to treat employees with decency, especially when the employees behaviour commands respect! I have been on jobs where I was treated extremely well because of the way I carried myself and my devotion to my work!

When you say we are culturally different from the whites, I don't quite agree, unless you mean blacks have black skin and whites have white skin. We all like to eat boiled fish and grits, etc, and do many other things most Bahamians do. And if there is any cultural difference, or any kind of prejudice, or WHATEVER it is you seem to have against the whites, I am sure the root cause of it was the way the old PLP played the race card. I believe most of the older whites who know about this would agree.

Many of the young men in my generation, when we were younger, smetimes used to ask the older men about their views on life and the various issues. We used to approach the most intelligent, experienced ones with our questions and we learned a lot in the process.

I don't know if you ever tried approaching your elders in these matters [It seems that young people don't do that these days]. But I honestly believe that if you were to pick, say, about 6 of the most intelligent, experienced men (or women ) you know (at least 55 and older), and question them on these issues, their answers would reflect much of what I am saying on this post! As always, I wish you well.

well im white and Ive had to put up with disrespect all my life whenever I worked for someone else .. or i was fired .. so it really doesnt matter what color skin you have ..and yes Ive walked off a few jobs.. though thats staff/manager related, as for customers, the customer is ALWAYS right, or get a different job.

And you dont have to 'respect' anyone you dont want to, many people do not deserve respect, just use some manners, treat them how you would want to be treated, then if they treat you like crap, be the bigger person and walk away.
I could identify with much of this. I think the work world in the Bahamas is terrible -- wonder if its like this in other countries? I have been fired from many jobs for nothing. On some, the manager cussed me out for nothing so I cussed him back and walked off the job!

When I first left school, I only wanted to work at one company/job for the rest of my life. Didn't know I was going to get cussed out and treated unfairly for nothing! By the time I was about 33, I had allready worked at about 34 different companies! It was then that I decided to stick to one job and put up with all the foolishness in oder to pay my bills and buy a piece of land.

My coping mechanism in dealing with really offensive, disgusting persons is to try hard to look for ANY good traits they have and focus on that to keep out of trouble. And if you ever get to dislike them, NEVER let them know; 'cause one day you may need something very badly and the ONLY person who can help you would be that very one you dislike! I learned this the hard way!

I am only 22, and the bit if work experience that I have so far, has been stressful and vexing. This may sound sexist, and I guess it is, but I will never again work in an office filled with women. You could drown in the mood swings, bad attitudes, and sip sip, particulalry if you are younger and more appealing physically ( I am trying not to toot my horn too much). Oh those eight months had me looking forward to school. I did not burn those bridges, but the days that I was close to telling somone bout dey sef, only God knows the number of times. I coped for about 8 months and that was because I was young and not experienced in working with a room filled with bitter post menopausal women. Okay I am ranting a bit, but kudos to whoever can be the bigger man and woman, because sometimes it takes the patience of Job.

I hate to ask this but 34 jobs by the time you were 33? What on earth happened? To be ludicrous, if you started working at one year old - that was more than one dismissal a year! I am sure you were much older when you started work. What happened???? And what made you finally change? :)

Teniel, in a way this is a bit strange. But it supports what a friend of mine told me a couple years ago: that his wife gave up banking to take up another profession whose starting pay was way less than her salary at the bank. It was an all female staff and she was sick of the bickering, etc, the same things you were experiencing. I don't know whether it is true, but I heard it said that most all-female staff is not pleasant at all, but if a few men are added things would get much better! Just a sprinkling of males among the females is what will solve the problem!

I sure hope that not many women are like that when they have reached menopause. I have met some very nice ones who had matured and settled down and seemed to enjoy life far better than when they much younger!

My daughter will be your age next month and she is expected to finish college in the US the end of the year. In her profession, she plan to be somewhat her own boss when she starts to work. I don't want to discourage any of the young persons from working, etc, but the hell I went through during much of my work life was really bad. Knowing what I know now, if I had it to do again I'd never work for any company -- I'd rather sell guineppes and peanuts on the side of the road!

working around nothing but females, especially ones that are older than you is not fun...not all. cept the bickering was all done behind one anothers backs and they used me as their vent cushion even though i tried my best to stay away from em.
