I believe that if you narrived here illegally, you and your offspring are illegal. Where else in the world can you go illegally, take up residence, have your babies and say that you SHOULD be legal? I don't care if you are Haitian, British or fromm Timbuktu, you are illegal. You have every right to apply for residency or citizenship is you qualify but it certainly is not a RIGHT. Every person living or working in the Bahamas must have either a valid work permit or documentation to be here in this country. Our sovereignty is at stake. You can't expect to come here uninvited or because you decide you like it here and set up camp. We do need foreign workers. What nationality does not make a difference but you must receive permission from the host country. Otherwise it's a free for all. You are expected to pay taxes, electricity, water and all other services provided same as Bahamian citizens. Send all illegals out of the country and let them apply like everyone else and let Bahamians pay for work permits and national insurance to sponsor them. We can't be held hostage by any illegal immigrants or they will surely outnumber us. The Abaco fire, though an aweful tragedy, is a good starting point to sending some Haitian illegals home. Why should we provide land and housing for them when they shouldn't be here in the first place? Those without permits have to go. Those born here must apply for citizenship if they wish to stay. Any Bahamian citizen found employing an illegal immigrant should be fined heavily - this goes for all immigrants. Of course we need foreign workers, but everything must be done in order and according to the laws of the land. Let's get it right!

Kimberley 07-01-03, - 01:31 AM i think they need to go home and stay there. These Bahamian entrepeneurs need to stop hiring these hatians. Just the other day i went to a particular store to buy some meat and the butchers all of them happens to be Haitans. This Haitian lady brushed up against me and pushed her way in the front of me. And would you believe that haitian told me that she was there first. well the words what come out of mouth was not to nice. these haitians bigetty and if we don't send them back to their country they are going to take over our Bahamaland.:raw:
diarra 11-16-03, - 08:08 PM Man let's get real.
All the humanitarian efforts the Bahamas has extended to the Haitian plight has not encouraged their Government to straighten up and fly right nor has it encouraged other Caribbean countries in the neighborhood to seek to assist The Bahamas. I understand that in certain Caribbean countries there is an absolute no tolerence stand on illegal immigration. These countries put citizens first.
The illegal immigration problem exacerbates what is already a problem in the native Bahamian society. It increases a human resource pool of low educated and poorly skilled mouths to feed and promises to fullfil. We all know that the Bahamian education system has seemingly failed to excite the interests of the young Bahmain population. Grades are low, will and want is low, yet vagrancy and lawlessness is increasing. And this is from people with a direct interest in the Bahamian society and culture. With the incresaing levels of illegal immigration we fight a loosing battle to improve the Bahamas for Bahamians. The reality is illegal immigration is not to bring cultural change alone, these people come to find the almighty dollar and personal expression that they can't do wherever they came from. But most of all it is for the money. And that is money that does not stay in the Bahamas, whether legally or illegally gained. How in the hell does that help us build a nation.
I say send them home, let us get a chance to get back on top of our game and then we could see what we could do for some of them. We need our skill levels and educational schemes to be upgraded to help us first then we could help someone else.
Delroy 11-16-03, - 10:07 PM i say send home all the illegal canadians and americans also. treat them all the same.
I secound that Rory.
Boy Rory I have a list of nationalities for you.

TRUTH 12-15-03, - 03:21 PM :bigmouth: And how are we supposed to make him leave, we are a small country so how can we put pressure on someone who only understand and respects power & a show of force. :gi: :bye2: The entire Haitian Immigration problem in the Bahamas is a direct result of the unrest caused by the “Dictatorship” Government in Haiti. The only way to solve this problem for the Bahamas is to support political change in Haiti meaning getting rid or President Jean-Bertrand ARISTIDE.
:raw:
TRUTH 12-15-03, - 03:29 PM Ok let's be real here, how can we help a people who don't want to be helped.... no matter who is in power there it will still take years to deal with the rebuilding, the lives of these people and the heart of these people. this will take years and during that time they will still try to go elswhere :jawdroop: I agree with you entirely.
This man needs to be removed from the position that he now holds along with his cabinet. His dictatorship atitude and inability govern his people in a democratic way has caused many lives to be lost in our waters and is effecting our economy in a very negative way.
I suggest that our government (if they haven’t already) begin plans with the United States and the U.N to restore order back to Haiti and change the present government.
I have heard so many talks about Iraq and Israel but lives are being lost now in Haiti and in our waters. No, they are not Jews or Americans :usa: or Bahamians :bahamas:; they are People in distress and need our help.Their lives mean something also but it seems like no one is paying attention to this matter outside of the Bahamas.
The government of Haiti is not very hard to remove if we all bind together. We must act now before this gets more out of hand and more lives are lost.
I hope that this point gets through to allot of people.
TRUTH 12-15-03, - 03:34 PM The BDF:jawdroop: hah! they can hardly float :taped: . that was funny though  a real good laugh. You mean U.S., UN and The Bahamas, right?
Haiti has a pretty well equipped army. They have a fleet of tanks.
BDF sent in alone would be slaughtered.

CrunchieCru 02-14-04, - 03:29 PM There is no doubt that Haitian are a great asset to the economy of The Bahamas. However, you can not have a large population concentrated in one area.Hence the suggestion of sending them to a cay, but would require supplies and food.Benefits can be made by increasing the arigiculture of The Bahamas. Moreover, it will still not be sufficent to solve the problem with such a vast popolution continuing to migrate. If you deport them back home, they will only return. The only solution is to strike at the root of the problem which is the goverment of Haiti. Assitance from the U.N and United States are most likely needed but I doubt you will recieve any assitance from the U.S even after there focus is off the Iraq. You have the presdential election, medicare, perscription drugs, and college education on their agenda. As I have said in a prior post President Bush plan for work programs with temporary visas does not even apply to Haitians. Haiti is a black and poor nation, unless there is something major to gain, I doubt any major assitance will be provided. Futhermore, with every problem there is a solution and with a little focus, dedication, and union a solution can be located. :shhh:

I like that line of quote CrunchieCru
Maybe a solution can be located here on this site.
I think that Haitis' biggest problem is that of Leadership.
The current president needs to be removed and replaced with another person who is fit for the job of running Haiti.
TRUTH 02-23-04, - 05:26 PM I agree with you entirely.
 Hey guys in some ways i agree with you; but i must say that no matter what we do it still falls in the hands of the hatian people. :dunce: :duh: I mean we can't babysit them, and I don't think that they need to be because while they are here they are trying to take over and make things the way they want it. if it was up to me I would start sinking ships :rip: then mabe they will get the message.

HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HAITI? Check this link to make sure you know. (http://www.thenewbreed.tv/News/haiti2004.html)
It is a shame that no one heeded news of what was going on in Haiti all along. Now, more innocent people will die to fight a problem that should have been dealt with years ago. There are 8 million reasons to care, as a Haitian website states, and over 60,000 right here in The Bahamas.
A stable Haiti is very much in the best interest of the Bahamas. It is not stable now, it has never been and if we (the Caribbean nations) don't work for it, it never will.
The US is too busy chasing bad guys all over the world. It is up to us. It is true the Bahamas is small, but add all the Caribbean nations together and we could be a "power to be reckoned with!" Many years ago European nations realized that in unity is strength. We (the Caribbean Nations) have yet to see the real wisdom in that! We have yet to see that if there is a "mess" in our backyard, we all need to get together to clean it up.
You cannot say, let the (?) sink! If they sink, they may pull us down as well.
I disagree. Caribbean nations can barely get along internally much less in each other's business. It is true that we could show more unity and at least have some sensible suggestions, but as far as making a big difference, I don't see it happening.
Furthermore, all this time **** been going down in Haiti the Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and the rest have not exactly been forerunners in sending real aid (food, clothes, medicine other humanitarian necessities) and are barely civil to Haitian immigrants. Other than politicians stating the obvious i.e. something has to be done and fast, what real impact has The Bahamas or any other Caribbean nation made? As much as one can of Baygon in a mosquito infested swamp.
The UN is the entity that needs to step in and do something. But because these are poor, black people we are talking about, thousands more must suffer and die before anything is done. And then it will only be done because the whole situation is a botheration - not because anyone cares.
