Let me vent!
About a month ago I put an urgent matter in my lawyer's hands, in the form of documents that needed his attention.
A week passed and I did not hear from him, not even that he had even received the documents. I called his office. “I am sorry, Mr........ has gone on vacation. He will not be back for two weeks.” When I asked why I was not told this when I dropped the documents off, I got the “I ain’t know” answer that should really be our national saying.
I was mad but I asked if another lawyer in the firm (a large firm) could handle the matter. I spoke with the new chap and told him that the matter was urgent and could he handle it at once. He said he could.
Another week passed , no word, so I called “Mr......... has gone on vacation. He will not be back for two weeks!” I blew my stack!!!! (Something I seldom do!)
I don’t believe lawyers should go on vacation, not for the money they charge us. If they do go they should make sure that every client is covered before they go. I have dealt with lawyers all over the world. Urgent is urgent and they seem to understand the meaning of the word. Bahamian lawyers do not, or so it seems.
If they have the nerve to send me a bill for their lack of action, I am going to have some one call them and say “Mr. CG has gone on vacation and will not be back for two years!” lol!

I WAN ASK ONE SIMPLE QUESTION?????

Do you feel that Lawyers should be paid "ONLY" if they win the case, as is the case in the U.S.?

This is not correct. The vast amount of litigation in the US is not contingency but paid by the client. Contingency cases in the US are primarily personal injury cases. Almost all other litigation is paid by the client. Lawyers provide a service and should be paid when they provide that service. The client gets into litigation with full disclosure that litigation is a very expensive proposition

Thanks for the Edumacation Canesfins, I take your answer as a yes you agree that Lawyers should be paid regardless, (No Sarcasm FYI) which is cool, I am just wondering if anyone feels otherwise?

Thanks again Fins

What is wrong with you legal people????????????!!!!!!:realmad:

I spoke to the Head of Chambers, he assured me everything would be settled soon. I checked back and nothing has been done. I move the matter to another law firm. They said they would deal with it right way. When I checked back with them, nothing!!!!! Is being a lawyer that hard????

Many law firms said they could handle the matter - none has!!! I am going to handle the matter myself. It can be that difficult - after all, lawyers do it! I am really steamed! This deal has the potential of being a BIG deal - in the high thousands!

I really believe the saying that “99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name!!”

Thanks, but I will handle the matter myself. It can't be that hard. If I need anything legal I will find a lawyer who will sign off on anything - if the price is to his liking!

Dese ppl work in tandem with dese crooked lawyers, if you think things bad and slow try go and deal with this government on ya own, chile they will have you crazy in short order.

They to use to getting dey lil lunch money, xmas and bday gift, plus summer bonus from these unscrupulous lawyers to even try help lil ole you.

But if you connected, it might work, but ya better do some extra chanting starting now!

Thanks. I am connected, but I don't like using it. I'll get the matter done. I have had to do something like it before. As I have said on other threads, "if you living in the Bahamas you better be an expert in everything, because the experts are not!" I’ll spend a few hours studying up on the law, call in a few favors - can’t be that hard, not as hard as it was in the medical field! lol!
