When children are in your care you cannot for one second take your eyes or hands off of them! As a matter of fact a child this age should have been in a stroller.
When I have children in my care I set rules as they are already excited to be out and about. I always tell them even if the car has stopped they do not come out of their car seats until I come to the side of the car and get you, especially in parklots or open spaces where other cars are moving about!
I for one cannot imagine having to tell a parent(s) that their child was hurt while in my care!

I was initially critical of the Police in this case....but the more I think about it, I feel as though the "family friend" from whom the infant got away....was trying to cover herself and clear her conscience......
First of all there's no way a 2 year old should be allowed to pull away from you in a parking lot ....that's too dangerous a place....
Secondly, if she saw the officer on the phone, what she mean she couldn't get his attention?...she shoulda been runnin behind that child......and then the officer would have seen HER and stopped.......if that were MY child....both of us would have been under that bus....
this may seem insensitive...but....that's why you can't let everyone watch/keep your child....

like so many pedestrians in Nassau, maybe she didn't move to grab the child, thinking the vehicle would just stop for them.

I was thinking the same thing. When my son was that age I would physically run him down, not call his name.
But I bet you anything this woman was big and wasn't about the break a sweat going after dat little boy. Instead she just call out his name.

I do feel sorry for that child's mother having witnessed his tragic death. I think the Ministry for Transport need to try and get the laws regarding the use of mobile phones while the user is mobile altered. Here in the UK it is actually an offense and if caught you face a fine and points on your lisence. There have been a few high profile cases where drivers even were imprisoned after being found guilty of dangerous driving. No call is that important to take when you are behind the wheel of a vehicle. I won't go on about the mother but when you are taking young children out, they should be properly supervised. I used a harness on all of my three because they don't like to have you hold their hand and may not want to be strapped in a pushchair, so the next best is a harness. It doen't look dignified but I know then that my children were as safe as I could make them. May this child RIP.

One day while driving down Fox Hill Road
A young lady was talking (leaning over like)
to a young man in a car and her baby which
she wasnt watching to busy talking walked
right in the front of my car, thank goodness I
wasnt speeding.
I stopped and exchanged words with her, she
laughed.....
Not saying this has anything to do with this
but these young people think everything is
so funny now a days

Had you been so unfortunate as to hit her child, I wonder how loudly she would have laughed then? Just to irresponsible to be parents.

I was more upset than anything.
I was loud but not rude.
Normally on busy roads I take my time.
