This is awful as a mother I could not imagine witnessing something like this and as a driver I couldn't imagine being responsible for something like this.. This is terrible all the way around...

May the toddler RIP

This is a very sad incident. The relative was on the news last night saying how they tried to get the police attention and he was on his cellphone.they tried to tell him not to reverse and he did.there needs to be a law against cell phone use while driving.

No, no, no. Don't blame the officer for this one. He was sitting in the van, and the lady let the toddler cross the flippin' road alone. Cellphone or not, it would have been nearly impossible for the officer to see the toddler in the path of the vehicle.

The mother/guardian needs to be charged for being negligent.

I had to change my initial reference to negligent, because despite my disdain towards the mother, a child's life is lost.

Exactly! The seating compartment in vans are higher up than in most vehicles. He would not have seen a 2 year old who was under two feet running across his van.

Just now a young man was on his cell phone at the gas station and drove off and took the hose with him, when this happened he continuted to talk on his phone while he was dealing with the matter, never hung up his call.

Let this baby cross the road alone to go where, to who? I need to hear the news, this is so sad .... may the toddler rest in peace.

I feel bad for the mother as well, this is horrible, as a mom I cant see a parent letting their toddler cross the street by themself, kind of hard for me to grasp that.

I second that sis.

This is very hurting for me to deal with as a mother.

When the father was on talking & crying , I was crying too. I feel for the parents of the toddler!!!!!

RIP JH jr.

My son is five, he can't even cross the car park in our condo to the entrance door without me saying: Stop, look both ways, do you see any cars coming???

But I agree with cellphones and driving. I always almost get push up on the sidewalk by drivers distracted by cell phones.

My friend uses her blackberry while driving with her unbuckled child in the car. I tell the cure for dat mussy gone be seeing her child fly through the windshield and her head split on the pavement.
