do yall know of the "Adjust for best performance" feature in XP? right click on 'my computer'>choose 'properties'>click on 'advanced' tab>under 'performance' choose 'settings'(first at the top)>select 'adjust for best performance'.
that's how I run. and with XP-SP3 I'm flyin'. :) try it.

.
there are also many other things you can turn off to make XP run faster (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm).
.
I surf with FireFox-3 browser and I only have IE6 installed. IE7 is the pits. slow and buggy.
.
and now Vista. I bought a brand new Accer DeskTop Replacement(laptop) for my 13 yr. old son with Vista Pro.
comes with 1GIG of RAM. still not faster than my XP with only 512RAM and the above settings. I can't find those settings in Vista. do they exist?
Vista is also bloated with unnecessary desktop thingys and widgets. my son turned those off immediately. lol.
here are some Super Vista Tweaks (http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/supertweaks.htm) to run Vista faster.

Bandwagon? It is a legitimate bandwagon.
-telnet removed
-Hyperterm removed
-command prompt won't go full screen
-can't drag path's from explorer to a command prompt
-breaks many Windows GPO policys
That is on top of the performance, driver, and interface drama. There is a reason Fortune 500s aren't adopting Vista as their new desktop standard. There is no reason to.
They didnt include it by default. You can get TELNET back kinda easily.

1. Open the Programs and Features Control Panel applet (Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features).
2. Select "Turn Windows features on or off."
3. Select the Telnet Client option and click OK.
4. A dialog box appears, confirming the installation of new features. After installation is complete, close the main Programs and Features Control Panel applet. The telnet command should now be available.

To my knowledge IE6 however is not as standards complaint as IE7.

I remember working on a site and on every other browser it was working fine and IE6 had this bug that required a css hack. I didn't even bother to implement it. When IE 7 came out, tada it was fixed. However still had to implement the css hack as alot of ppl still use IE6.

I'm aware. But why should I need to struggle to get back functionality that I used to have. By moving from XP to Vista, I gain no functionality, but lost some. Hardly seems like an upgrade.

MAC is certainly the way forward...you will really enjoy it. I also got an iPhone a few months back - I've totally bought into the MAC-mania. Makes life so easy. :)
