Can we learn from this info.?

I think it's Ting-Um I promised this more...here it is! Food for thought for all eh?

This bit that follows was sent to me, okay?

Coming back to the concept of ideal population, I must say that while Singapore like to have a 10 million population, our limited land cannot support it. So, the government is planning to have it grow from 4.5 million to 5.5 million in the next 20 years. Even at this, our population density will be the highest in the world. Some people are suggesting a 6.5 million target but suppose that will be another story. You can read this press release by one of our Minister: http://www.ura.gov.sg/pr/tables/pr00-32d.html to get some ideas of the challenges we are facing.

There are some research studies done on population size/density and the effects on economic development of country. Here is a link which you may wish to start with: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Population-density.

Hope you have an interesting time with these ideas but population policy is a sensitive one and should be considered with a number of other factors such as naturalization and social infrastructure development.

So they are saying ramping up population in Singapore cannot be supported and will tax land requirements?

Probabl,y but they recognize the need for qualified skilled and unskilled labor. You NEED engineers and architects if you plan to compete. You wither grow your own or steal someone else.

I've no doubt Singapore wil restructure their plan to allow immigration of just the right balance of skilled (and unskilled) workers they need to grow.

I'm in the office so I haven't heard the other links but I do think that there should be some sort of plan - not necessarily population control but rather population management. I'll read the links tonight when I get home.

PS - my birthday is a-coming and I see no gifts. :(

I'm back on the idea of coming back to Nassau. The idea of a paycut doesn't sit well with me but if these people act right I might be making my prodigal son trek back to the yard.
