I was told that people swim there all the time. It is in fact a huge tourist attraction. My thing is when was it ever safe to swim in a blue hole? Aren't they like the proverbial bottomless pits of the ocean? Someone school me, because I have talked to others who say that they are safe to swim in.

its a great beach with shallow water going out for a ways, the blue hole on the left, just a small tiny portion of the beach, near the cliffs. A small hole may have opened up in the area that they were and then fell down into the hole, or something like that maybe.

R Pinder was my former co-worker in NY. This was truly sad indeed.

What I dont understand is places where there are known blue holes - why dont authorities post notices or marks for the unsuspecting general public ? apart from the Goodmans Bay incident this blue hole in Long Island is well known since its reported to be the largest in the world . :dgi:

blue holes don't just sneak up on you, you know ... you can see them from shore, from the air, from across the road. if you know how to swim, you can travel a blue hole. if you don't know how to swim, wear bright orange arm floaties if you go in the water, and wait for help to arrive :cutie:.

How beautiful. How deadly.
Prayers for the family.

yeah but if you fall through and cant see which is the way out, hard without goggles or a mask, its all over. Or it also could be a small cave as well.

thing is, this has been there forever, plenty people have been there, wonder if there have been other death in the past?
