Brown Suga 07-31-08, - 10:13 AM This is very, very sad.
But this is the same site where the owners blocked access a few weeks ago and one of the reasons may have been the danger this blue hole presents.
The Exotic One 07-31-08, - 11:16 AM This is horrible. I heard about it last night and it gave me chills.. My heart goes out to the family left to mourn this tragedy..

I'm still in shock! One a former classmate; the other, played volleyball with-- just unbelievable!!
The Point 07-31-08, - 12:12 PM Least learn a few lessons here guys:
Learn to swim---regardless of your age...practice, practice, practice--- yes U CAN!!!
Decide NOW, if you see someone in danger of drowning, throw them a lifeline... tube, even a empty gallon plastic bottle could help! In tragedy, try your very best to remain calm---being a loved one you may tend to want to just 'jump in' --- a drowning person WILL pull you under if you're not trained to handle such.
Learn CPR!
Lets be proactive, those of us still around..... please, please...
blackscorpion 07-31-08, - 12:26 PM What I dont understand is places where there are known blue holes - why dont authorities post notices or marks for the unsuspecting general public ? apart from the Goodmans Bay incident this blue hole in Long Island is well known since its reported to be the largest in the world . :dgi:

The day when we care about fellow Bahamians, they day we and our governments will actually think about such things. You se what we gat with the flippin traffic lights right? I serious it's like we do't care if our own dies around here. We only half care about the tourists and that's because they bring money......

I have been saying this for a long time. Just place out some warning signs and ballons in those effected areas.
I also believe that the government may need to place some well train lifeguards at our public beach areas on weekends and holidays. BDF and The Hotels may be able to assist with this idea. PLEASE:hammer:

Ok lets start being proactive before more people die. Many people read the posts on this site. So every Bahamian who know of a blue hole, dropoff or riptide on a beach. Please post it lets compile a list and demand the authorities post it
Teniel 07-31-08, - 03:01 PM I was told that people swim there all the time. It is in fact a huge tourist attraction. My thing is when was it ever safe to swim in a blue hole? Aren't they like the proverbial bottomless pits of the ocean? Someone school me, because I have talked to others who say that they are safe to swim in.
