View Full Version : Cob
deserted 08-07-08, - 11:51 AM A friend of mine just got a full scholarship to attend COB and everyone is telling her how crappy they think the school is. To those on BI who attend COB now, how are things running now? Is admin better? Are profs showing up to class? Anything else recently happening that is hindering the school? She is going to go regardless but wants to know what to expect. Thanks!

Tell your friend to ignore the noise in the market... Many of the same persons putting the school down would have killed for a scholarship.. No matter what the conditions if a person puts in their mind and sets out do well, the will DO well no matter what they encounter.. Wish your friend all of the best for me and tell them I said to go, do well an knock them dead.. :jawdroop:
d1973 08-07-08, - 12:01 PM Let me tell you as someone working in the US Higher Educational System... COB is one of the best education that your friend can obtain. Now when I went to COB only God could help you to register or pay for a class (because you would be in the line for forever) but every institution has its growing pains.. but beyond the organizational stuff.. COB IS AN GOOD SCHOOL..
Tell her go there and do her AA or BA as the case may be and go abroad to do her graduate studies (umm and if she want to come back to Nassau) :taped2:

Seconded. If you don't plan on getting a master degree, then complete your AA and go abroad. If you do plan on attending grad school - finish your BA with a 3.50 or better, then find a top grad school. You'll be fine.

In this economy and tight job market... He/She better go and do her masters degree and PhD if it is called for... you ga soon need BA to work at mcdonalds :)
Lurker 08-07-08, - 12:29 PM Money is flowing into COB on a scale never seen before.

That would be quite ironic, as I can order hotcakes and pull up at the window to a sausage egg mcmuffin and coffee. I don't what that BA would be in......
EbonyApollo 08-07-08, - 12:41 PM I went to COB and still do I think COB's greatest downside was the long line at registration. Now, as far as I know that's a thing of history, at least for me because now you go to your advisor's office, they register you on their computer and you just go and pay your bill. It's quick, efficient, and painless. Now before you used to have to stand on a line from here to Inagua. That was the only thing about COB that I used to dislike(that and group assignments avoid it at all costs). As far as the quality of the degree, I think COB's degrees are probably among the most well respected in the country. Also, once you get a degree from COB you can go anywhere else and kick @$$. They really do prepare you. It's not a particularly easy school so once you go to COB you can go anywhere else.

Teniel 08-07-08, - 12:53 PM It depends on the discipline that one is taking up. The School of Natural Sciences when I attended COB had a long way to go in terms of proper lab facilities. Everything from the microscopes to the slides were outdated. It can be a bit of a shock when you go abroad and deal with modern equipment, compared to COB's outdated stuff. The Science School had a long way to go, and I would hope that they have outfitted their labs with modern equipment. If not, just do a year and get the necessary pre-requisites, and if one can, go off.

Sound Advice. I second and third that. Just go do what you've got to do and move ahead. Do not get caught up in the 'noise'.
Remember: At the end of the day, you need the following:
1: The Piece of Paper
2: The knowledge
3: Good Grades
4: Good work ethic
5: Good references
and You will be in better shape than if you did not have them
chancellor 08-07-08, - 01:17 PM I always heard one sound thing about COB.....make it there....make it anywhere.
COB has challenges but dealing with them is apart of YOUR development.
