natureboy2136 08-12-08, - 12:04 PM It amazes me that yall on BI supposed to be informed, analitical type persons, however, I find you'll lacking today. I have no idea how this thread got to be about politics. I guess it happened when someone decided to use Mr. Ingraham's name as an ignition to promote a government/people's issue. Shame on yall.
But I want to know this, is our government on pause without Mr. Ingraham. Are Mr. Symonette, Laing and Turnquest just awkward baffoons who need direction. Are they not able to pick up the phone call Mr. Ingraham from where he is, get that direction they seem to need from their master and just carry it out. The FNM starting to look sad. Or is it that we are putting too much onto, the Bahamas needs Ingraham to survive.
In any event, this is the issue people. The unions have been up in arms for years. They made noise when the people were in power when I was in school and they are making noise now. The know Mr. Ingraham is a stronger individual, so this particular union took stronger methods. Similar methods that they used when Ingraham first was in power. Methods that yall forgot seemed to work. Wake up people.
Now the real issue. BTC striking now, next it will be BEC. Then it will be the teachers, then the entire government section. They are all sympathist with each other. All watching. All waiting on the strong arm tactics of Mr. Ingraham in order for them to be strong hand too. The goal is to have a general strike. You think what BTC doing now is foolishness, wait tell these buggas all come together. The solution peoples, who seem to be blind or blinded with politics, is that this is a legal matter. The courts need to protect us. The Union itself needs to be sued. No no prime minister with his inept cabinet being a bully. I can't believe you'll does promote bullyism anyways. And yall suppose to be matured thinking people.I don't think the government response to the hole issues thus far is sending a positive message that they are will to at lease negotiate with the union leader.. It seems to me that they have their position & their stiking with it & don't have time to compromise if only for the people who the represent.
asterz57 08-12-08, - 12:11 PM Just an observation.....how does natureboy manage to turn any statement about his dislike of HI and the FNM?
I would really like to know that. If it rain all day he ga blame HI. I ain no fan of the man but give him a break.

It is a political issue because every time the government changes parties they have changed all the BTC board members to match their own political philosophy for running the corporation and dealing with its workers. In addition, the Minister responsible for BTC is also changed every time the government does.
So if when the government changes hands you move from a board/minister who negotiates and communicates with executive/middle managemnt and the union to one who doesn't, what do you expect is going to happen?
If you then also remove the company's president who too believed in mediating and managing disputes internally before they got to this kind of boiling point, what do you expect is going to happen?
If you initiate a culture of fear of speaking out, fear of voicing your opinions and fear of having disagreements with how the company is being run, what do you expect is going to happen?
What the BCPOU did yesterday was wrong, but just like many citizens in this country, the frustrated employees of BTC feel that they have lost their right to a voice, and when that happens events like yesterday's demonstration are bound to happen.
If the political philosphy that pervades the upper level of the company and indeed this country doesn't alter its mindset, I'm sure this isn't the last time it will happen either.......
So please don't say it isn't about politics. No matter how flawed this way of functioning is, anything that the government of the Bahamas is responsible for is ALWAYS about politics!

My only consolation is that he will run out of batteries soon.......

Deep buey. Deep.
Nevertheless, the people of the Bahamas, wants heads to roll. They enjoy the dictatorship type of governance. In fact, they are shouting out Ingraham come home, Ingraham come home. We want to see come people crucified. Sadly, you have proven again that we are not matured enough to manage we sef.

Now you sure right about that! We Bahamians do love the apparent style/strength of a dicatator now don't we? Even though I don't personally like that type of governance, I can't wait to see what HI does when he comes home either! :)

two dollar bet, that he give in to the union demands. Justice that is not executed swiftly does not mean a thing. In two weeks it will be too late. the momemtum has already started. The response was a deafening nothing. IN two weeks, BTC has the power to make the country crumble. SAVE us Symonnette. Where is our Deputy PM

I will take your bet and double it. My peeps tell me that jobs will be lost over this (people fired). And the people that will be fired, will be fired strategically -- ie other BTC employees will run for cover when the news breaks.
The reason that it won't be immediate, is that information is being collected (everything from what they did on the strike day as well as performance reviews --everything). Management will move forward with a rock solid case that will withstand litigation and rock the unions.
What you don't know, is that the chairman has already humbled Farquie and made him lose face big time in a meeting and Farquie tryin' to fight back. He (farqui) will lose and lose badly. And Ingraham will not deliver the coup de grace, but he will rub Farqui's face in shiite just for the fun of it.

so in essence we wait two to three years for results, when all of this doesn't even matter anymore. Interesting stratergy.

Lurker: Too interesting. Now I really can't wait to see how this situation all plays out.
However, is it really sound, humane business practice to have your employees so petrified and "running for cover" in order to have them stay in line, perform well and grow the organization? I don't know that much about business, but I'm sure that if you look at thriving corporations this is not the model they use for success.
You guys think BTC employees sullen, unresponsive and disgusting now? Just wait until the alleged planned "culture of submission not inclusion" really sets in!!!
I know if I were one of the few pleasant, productive and qualified emplyees there now, between the actions of the BCPOU and the philosophy of the govt/board, I would be preparing my resume looking for somewhere to work where I wouldn't have to exist in fear right now!

yes they should be scared, not for their lives, but for their job, no matter who they are. They should know that if they dont do the job or if they break the rules, or if they, god forbid, break the law like the BTC staff did on Bay Street, they will loose their job and it will be passed onto someone that can do the job and can follow rules and is NOT a criminal.

God knows I could do with a high paying BTC job when I finish school. I say fire them all. How many people went on strike? Not the entire establishment right, cause we will need a few of them to work while I finish school. But I say fire all those involved. But then again, the members shouldn't suffer. Fine the union one six figur number. That should get their attention.

it dont matter, the union leader incited the criminal acts but the members actually did them.
they could use cable12's video to find who to fire.
