I believe we are experiencing signs of the times, WORLDWIDE. I will repeat something I have siad on this forum a number of times: In chapters 2 and 3 of the book of Revelation, Christ speaks of the 7 churches, and the sad thing is that only 2 out of the 7 were pleasing Him -- that is 28.6%. Many Bible scholars believe only that same percentage of churches worldwide is pleasing Him today!
Let's put this into context. First of all, it was John who SAID that only two of the seven churches were pleasing. Don't forget these were existing congregations of the SAME religion. Christianity was just beginning. These are the seven churches:
Ephesus
Smyrna
Pergamum
Thyatira
Sardis
Philadelphia
Laodicea
Only Smyrna and Philadelphia were worthy in John's eyes. Here is what he had to say about them:
(1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) - the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).
(2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) - the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).
(3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) - the church that needed to repent (2:16).
(4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) - the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).
(5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) - the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).
(6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) - the church that had endured patiently (3:10).
(7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) - the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).
It is laughable to think that Revelations has any predictive power for the present time. Revelations predicted the downfall of ancient Rome. All biblical scholars will tell you this.
To keep Christianity alive, proponents had to bamboozle their followers to believe that Revelations and indeed any book of the Bible is relevant today. It's the old thing of don't believe what the words say (you are mistaken in your interpretation) but believe what we tell you.
