As someone said in an earlier post the majority of Bahamians are Baptists, so I guess that explains the lack of interest in the topic. :bored: I guess we should start a thread on Baptist doctrine.

or an Anglican one?

;)

you would see a meteor hit the earth ...better yet hit the bahamas directly before we have a negroe pope!!
unheard of!!

Pope Saint Victor 1, who served from 186-197 A.D., Pope Saint Miliades 1 from 311 to 314 A.D. and Pope Saint Gelasius 1 from 492-496 A.D.

apparently there were three allready!
not nothing i see as of recent times....
and i do say, all before the great revolution of the catholic church which started in about the 16th century!!
:shaky:

well, the meteor has hit...the great church revolution was more than a meteor..martin luther was more than a meteor in those days...Calvin was more than any asteroid!!!

I just wanted to inform you that there were black popes before, as you found out for yourself. You initially said they were unheard of, but now you say that it wasn't recent.
Regardless, I think that they will select a black pope next time, as they tend to go to impoverished nations at times to gain support of their people. It is likely that it will happen soon in the future I think.
At least it is more likely than a black US president :sarcastic

Quick question...
in regards to catholic priests:
Are there any other priests besides American priests who have been acused of molesting children... I am thinking maybe its an American cultural problem.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a universal problem. We hear more about those in the US because we are closer to them and the American church is finally cracking down - harder than most.

By the way the problem is not confined to the Catholic church. It is found in most denomination and in other, non-Christian religions but to a lesser extent - but if you ask me, one is too many.

CNN had an article yesterday about how the Canadian Catholic Church in Newfoundland had to sell off 150 properties (minus the cemetaries) in order to pay a 10.5 million dollar lawsuit for some vile, repugnant priest who abused kids for over a decade. The original suit was for over 40 million, but the church settled with the plantiffs. Some justice. Now, the priest lives on a church pension on his family's land.

He should be defrocked and de-cocked!

I have just read some of these posts. They seem very anger filled. Instead of throwing venom towards the Catholic Church or any other organization, maybe it may be better for you to ask yourself why you are filled with so much hatred toward any organization.

The Catholic faith has been around since Christ died and rose. There have been many people who lived a beautiful life of service and of love which is due to the effect that the Church had on their existence. If I can give you one example of this is St. Pio. He died in 1966 (I believe). Read about his life. You will find someone who truly gave all of his energy and power to help others, both physically, emotionally and spiritually. And there are so many more examples. Study the Catholic faith and you will find thousands of people who have loved deeply, even to the point of giving up their lives for others (St. Maximillian Kolbe from the Nazi death camps).

How quickly the start of this thread proves that anti-catholic bigotry is the last accepted prejudice! Those bigots here must be disappointed that Mother Theresa of Calcutta is no longer alive-- they can't run up and kick the walker from under her, thereby getting some warped sense of self-worth that they did something against what they mistakenly see as evil. Yes, the church is flawed, but that is due to it being filled with humans all of whom are flawed: bad things done by priests are done by others in different religions, pediphilia done by priests is at a slightly lower rate than is done by laity(not that I'm excusing it), etc. but as usual, bigots don't let facts get in the way of giving The Church a low blow. Cripes! The anti-catholic bigotry shown here helps show the lack of quality of the bahamian education system and the disinterest of bahamians to improve thier mental skill and knowledge. And it makes me ashamed of having been in the bahamian education system years ago. Hypocrisy is also present in the bigotry-- condemn priests for wrongdoing but don't condemn all, in every occupation, who abuse their authority ex. teachers who commit pediphilia. As for Pope JP II not retiring, he couldn't because to do so would have contradicted the churches stands on life being important to its end, how the elderly and sick are important and shouldn't be exposed to euthanasia, and how people could overcome physical limitations because they are multi-faceted having also a spiritual side.
