Following the pope's funeral on Friday April 8th, preparation shall be made to select his successor, in the papal conclave. Vatican experts predict that the next pope shall come from a developed country, either Latin America or Africa. Cardianal Arinze of Nigeria is getting alot of press as Pope John Paul's possible successor. I think we can all bet that the next Pope wont be American, and not likely to be another Italian (they had dominated the papacy before John Paul's appointment as the first Pole to be elected to the papacy). Let me say that it would be great to have a pope from Africa, a continent that has been desperate for global attention for so long. I think such an appointment would be an upliftment for Africans in particular Black Africans. I think his appointment would also put much needed attention on the AIDS crisis in Africa. Do you guys think that history can be made, with the first black pope? As well do you think the Caribbean will ever have someone who can possibly be considered for the papacy. At present we have no Cardinals in the Carribbean, but in the future it could be possible.

In other news, it has been reported that the Easter Bunny was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident earlier today. It is alleged that Santa Claus was involved in the incident. No word yet on who will replace the loveable floppy-eared furry friend, but many predict that Bambi's friend Thumper, and Bugs are both in the runnings.

Most experts agree though, that no matter what the outcome, sex with little boys is good, Condoms are bad, and AIDs isn't something to be concerned about.

Okay, so I guess this is the point where I am supposed to laugh at the Baboon.

Just poking a bit of fun at the corrupt, despicable organization known as the Catholic Church. Any group that does not advocate the use of condoms in Africa has to be braindead. Best thing they could do the for world is shut themselves down. Pope John Paul is dead, they had a good run, made a pile of money, scored with a lot of twelve year olds, raped and slaughtered a bunch of Muslims, perhaps it is time to retire.

I fully agree with you Baboon. Finally the Pope is going home to see his father: SATAN. The trinity for Catholics is Satan Santa and the POPE. Notice how they even dressed him in red like satan and santa. I God is truly merciful then the Pope will only burn in hell for one eternity.
God is a jealous God. Yet the christians see no wrong in calling the pope holy father. By the way Pope means father. Jesus clearly said call no man father because one is your father that is God in heaven.

Such hostility to a simple question!

As for the question. I have no idea whom the next Pope will be. I have a feeling it will be a European but I don't know and no one does. There is no campaigning for the job so we will just have to wait and see and be surprised - after all John Paul was a surprise when he was elected . :)

Interesting comments.
However, the Trinity for Catholics is the same as any other Christian faith...The Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Catholics are against Satan, against Santa (if you ever speak to a Catholic you may know this), and see the pope as a holy man, and an earthly example of how Jesus wanted man to live.
Catholics see popes as successors to Peter, who Jesus would have "built his church" so to say. Thus, live as an example and guide to Jesus Christ.
I figure if the pope was dressed in green he would have been compared to the lucky charms leprechaun hey? ;)
Indeed God is a jealous God and I think God dislikes it when we place material things like cars and fancy jewelry etc. above him too. The mass visit to view the pope's dead body is a bit disturbing at times. This is not how it should be, as it may lead people to believe that Catholics should worship the pope. Catholics worship God, and see the pope as a holy man of God, and he should only be regarded as such. This type of mourning is even unacceptable to me.
There are many Catholics who do not call the pope by the title holy father, and I understand their reasons for it. I too do not like the idea of calling the priests/pope father, rather brother is more of a comfortable term; even pastor. I don't think titles should be used in the church, as there is no degree to which holiness be measured.

But in response to one of your comments Link, what do you say to those people, maybe even yourself, who calls the man who cohabited with their mother to produce....father? Should we also not call them father, is daddy the proper term? I had a discussion on this before with a few persons, so I wanted to hear your response to that question.

I think most people, that arent Catholics, just really couldn't care less. Im one of them .. :D

I am not Catholic either but I find all of this interesting. The late Pope was a world figure and leader of over a billion Catholics. He can't be avoided on the world scene. Now, as for the "new guy" only time will tell. I find that interesting.

I am not Catholic, I am just interested in the whole papal process if you will. As far as where the pope has ended up, well no man can make that judgement. Wanting the pope to burn in hell is a bit extreme, and rather unnecessary, but you ropinion, so be it. You chose to use the term Christian instead of Catholic, who are but one denomination of the Christian faith, not fair to put all Christians under the blanket of Catholicism , but then again their seems to be some raging hostility towards Christians on your part.

I do agree that their staunch conservativeness, doesnt help the real siituation that the world and many people are facing, like AIDS in Africa. BUt something good has to come of the next pope coming from that Continent. Like saying putting a spotlight on the genocides going on in that country.

Can sum1 please explain to me how in the world Simon Peter who was an Apostle of Christ & also a Jew ever became a Pope of the Catholic Church? How in the world can the Roman Catholics say with a straight face that they are affiliated with the apostles is beyond me.

The Cathoholics have intoxicated us with there lies so much that they seem to become truth. They say peter was the first pope and there authority comes from him. When in truth Peter was never even a leader in the church. James was the head of the church(jerusalm). And it is clear that james ruled over peter and the others with an iron fist. Paul acused peter of fearing james more than God.

This is a deep one rizzo. Answer this. What did jesus call his mother? WOMAN.
Father means source. There is one source. Call that source your source.
Teniel you are right. I cannot say that john is going to hell. BUT I GUARRANTEE THAT HE IS NOT GOING TO HEAVEN. Any one wants to bet their white robe or golden slippers on that one!!

That all swings, primarily, on one Bible passage, Matthew 16:18

"He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."

The Catholics say Peter was the rock. Protestants say that the words Peter spoke was the rock. I guess that all one can do is read the words and come to ones own conclusion.

However, the next verse has Jesus saying: "I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Sounds to me like the starting of an organization, with Peter as the head? Could be! Was Jesus talking to Peter here? The Catholics say yes. Protestants say no.

It is a safe bet because I cannot lose and you cannot win! I cannot win and you cannot lose!

First of all you say "I cannot say that John is going to hell." but then you say, "But I guarantee that he is not going to heaven." So, there is a third place? (Unless you are talking about Purgatory.)

The Late Pope followed his beliefs, which he held to be true, with all sincerity. You follow your beliefs, which you hold to be true, with all sincerity. I am sure that both of you could bring mountains of documents to prove your respective positions.

Is the Pope in heaven? Will you find your place there when your time comes? Is there a heaven? All these questions will be ultimately answered when ones last breath is drawn, and not before. The Pope now "knows." That puts him one up on us all.
