The Fact--Truth of Why Bahamian Hotel Workers are Obese
I lived in the Bahamas and know many Bahamian who work in the Hotel Industry. The Bahamians on a whole eat a rich starch diet, rice, macaroni and cheese, potato salad etc. The Bahamian eat this diet at home and when the go to work the eat the same diet. Many Bahamians who work in the Hotel bring home th FOOD from the Hotel kitchen to eat at home--known fact. On the other cause some people it's a Medical Cause.
As we all know many of our Bahamian Hotel employees ar not health concious and don't exercise. Many of them love being obese and like ben call "brick house" Bahamian need to be Health concious.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

I do not know of any hotel that allows its employees to take food off the premises...further if hotel workers were taught of the correlation between high caloric foods and weight gain prehaps they would want to do something about it....

Allowed? No. But they do it anyway and it is not just food they take! I have a friend who worked Security at a major hotel. He stopped a worker trying to take out a mattress!:)

It happens all the time (not always mattresses) In this case the guy rolled it up as best as he could and put a rope round it to hold it. He then threw it out the window!!! When the coast was clear he went to pick it up. He then walked it out the gate. When my friend challenged him the guy said that it was a soiled mattress and he was going to throw it in the dump - what gave him away was, the dump was not in the parking lot!! :)

Seriously, I don't think it would matter. We're a "as long as it taste good" kind of breed.

Bahamians jus GREEDY...

Back in the 80's/90's Princess Hotel and Casino and Lucayan Beach Hotel EVERYBODY was Slim and Sexy...patted down in there Fashion Fair make-up and neat and pressed uniform. People took pride in their appearance generally, back then, and food was not on their mind when they went to work...thats when we treated tourist like Gods.

Arrh, most Bahamians still treat Foreigners like "GODS" and treat themselves and other Bahamians like a lesser breed of human, especially the Govt, if you need examples, I will provide them for you, (I know I treat tourist with the same high level of respect just like how I treat my fellow Bahamians).......

Everywhere in the world, the Obesity levels have increased tremendously because we are all eating the same contaminated food with side effects whether it be fruits, vegetables or meat along with what we drink. Its not only hotel workers but almost every Bahamian is Obese as with the resto of the world.....

John Doe, you asked a question about "Export Only" food recently. In my world view, I believe my eyes and tastes buds. I have compared the same product whether snacks and oatmeal, or pancake batter. The export only food is an inferior product when it comes to salt and sugar content, etc. And to add insult to the slap across the face, the inferior product is more expensive ( even though Yorrik claims the producers do not pay export tax). Let us send a message to the importers by not buying this junk. Import replacement should be policy, wherever it can be done. There is absolutely no leadership on food issues from the government or civil society. Everyone is worrying about EPA and other nonsense...

It will be controversial but the only thing they can do is only serve healthy food in the cafeterias to the staff and cut out all of the greasy fatty food, until then, whats the point of discussing it if one is not taking the measures to prevent it, thats like pouring gas on fire but yet cryin that its hot but yet a bucket of water is right there in the front of you....
