Driving just today, im behind car after car with blue smoke choking me that I have to either stop, or overtake (and they always wonder why!??). Little do these people know, that this blue smoke contains carbon dioxide, a slow killer, and one of the largest killers in the US.

Then there are the jitneys with their tasteful black diesel smoke, not nice first thing in the morning, or even in the afternoon traffic jams, gotta get out of the car and grab for air!!! Then thats if you can even see 5 feet in front of you.

My question is, why are these cars inspected, where are the police? Shouldnt all police be concerned and do something, not leaving it up to the very very limited traffic police, who appear not to do anything about it either. Perhaps there is no law against polution. There should be as this is manslaughter in the long run.

I know all too well about these busses and cars. Today on the way over the PI bridge back to Nassau, I was behind my choice of a smoking jitney or a smoking Toyota sedan. Of course both were travelling the same speed, so I was forced to deal with it. *sigh*

We are in dire need of proper inspections and emissions controls. The heart of the problem is how lax road traffic is. As long as you know someone who knows someone who knows someone, and you have a $20 in your pocket anything can get inspected. And while I am on a rant, what the hell is up with those green/red/blue/white turn signals and brake lights. Maybe nobody told these drivers that the lights are a certain color for a reason, and not to look nice. It is very disconcerting to be driving down an empty road at 3am and suddenly see a pair of white lights in your lane. You have no way of knowing at first glace if it is a dip5hit coming towards you in your lane, or someone with white brake lights, or a braindead idiot's backup lights.

AND ANOTHER THING (I am on a roll) why do people feel it is necessary to keep their high beams on when driving in traffic? There are few streets in Nassau that are not saturated with street lights, and headlights are not needed to light up the street, only to make your car more visible to oncoming traffic. When using the high beams you only manage to blind the oncoming driver so they can't follow the road and drift into the other lane. *grumble*

I could go on for a while, so I think I'll stop now.

Funny thing about the Bahamian Inspections, I went through it last September. When I questioned the officer if he was going to inspect my vehicle, after paying the inspection fee, he replied "looks OK to me"!

Well I have given up on Bahamians when it comes to polution.:(
I don't think some of them have enough common sense to understand what that blue smoke does, besides, if they are releasing it then they are not the ones being choked. Don't let the government fool ya, but they aint serious when it comes to polution and those responsible in that field of work are only there for the money. I try to hold my breathe but there is so much black smoke or whatever ya call it from those jitney buses that the smoke lasts longer than when I hold my breathe. Get use to it because it appears that nothing is going to be done about it. The Americans complain about uncle Sam but there are some things I like about him when he acknowledge situations of this sort and acts.
