Teniel 04-12-05, - 01:14 PM Forgive me if this was already discussed before. But I was discussing this same issue on another a forum, a caribbean forum to be exact. It was brought up by one of the forum members that Gay Cruise ships were recently denied entrance at ports in Jamiaca, Barbados, St. Vincent, and St. Lucia, and that Grenada will turn away the next one to its shores. What is the opinion of Bahamians on this issue. Should they be turned back? Should they be left alone? Rosie O' Donell was here recently with her 'family values' gay cruise. I dont recall how that went down.
As well another question I want to throw in. In Jamaica they have a law that makes homosexual acts illegal, they call it buggery. Is such a law present on the Bahamian books?
k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 04-12-05, - 01:53 PM yes buggery was on the law books, not really sure if it's still there or not. dont really remember what happened downtown when the ship docked..wasnt really interested at the time to tell the truth. personally i don't see why countries would turn away a cruise with openly passengers seeing as how all of them already have active homosexuals in society, and passing through their ports every day anyway. in the end, i think no..they should not be turned away.
casualobserver 04-12-05, - 02:15 PM Is the money gay tourists spend any different from the money straight tourists spend? I dont' think so.
Didn't that recent cruise issue also involve nude, gay people? I think that was the larger issue, their nudity. I believe that they were required to be dressed prior to entering port, so it shouldn't have been the problem.
I'm not gay (my preference) or a nudist (other people's preference) but there sure are a lot of small minded people in the world!

Gay people that travel have money! They like to live "jet set" lives and spend extravagantly. Why turn away their tourist dollars, we have to think smart, this is a changing world. Who am I to dictate and force feed my strong beliefs on others. All American money is green so why not take it. A Gay persons dollars is no lesser than a straight persons so why not take it?
garnelleo 04-12-05, - 09:40 PM i'm not gay, neither do i support gay lifestyle but those ppl who dont want the money from gays, will gladly take money from drug dealers, and number house owners.
Vicky 04-12-05, - 09:58 PM Gay people that travel have money! They like to live "jet set" lives and spend extravagantly.Boy talking about labels. Not all gay people are rich. Many work hard for what they have. During the Rosie cruise I met a lesbian couple that brought their 6 yr old son down. They said they saved for a vacation for over a year and when the heard of the cruise they thought how nice it would be for their son to meet other kids with gay parents. They were shocked to see such a protest. But they would not let ignorance ruin their vacation they worked so hard to have. They went out onto Bay Street and came back to where we (the Rainbow Alliance) were standing and showed us the stuff they bought. They went to the straw market where the saw rainbow colored welcome signs. (that I printed) They told us they spent their money there and 1 or 2 other shops that had some sort of rainbow symbol in the window. They said any shop that did not have a rainbow symbol did not want gay money. Why turn away their tourist dollars, we have to think smart, this is a changing world. Who am I to dictate and force feed my strong beliefs on others. All American money is green so why not take it. A Gay persons dollars is no lesser than a straight persons so why not take it?

Anyone who likes to travel has money
bahmaboy 05-23-05, - 08:23 AM these cruises should not be turned back becuase gay money is the same as straight money. i think what that person was tryin to say is generally gay persons have more expendable incomes becuase they usally have no children, no alimony etc. also these caribbean need to be carefull of how they come across to people becuase gay people also have straight friends and when their friend comes back and says: "those bahamians, jamiacans, trini's etc was protesting and carryin on at the dock and ruined our vacation we fealt unwelcomed and out cast" their friends are gonna say well if that's the way they carry on I aint goin. and that friend tells another friend etc. so in reality turning away a gay cruise with 2000 passengers could have a back lash that cuases 25-50 thousand straight and gay visitors not want to come to your shores.
can someone tell me why the caribbean is notirious for being anti-gay?
k.o.o.l.b.o.n.z.e 05-23-05, - 01:11 PM because church leaders made it that way, they were the ones kicking up a fuss like that would get them in to heaven quicker and the congregations followed oh so obiediently. i wonder if these so called religious leaders knew the harm they were doing to the lively hood of the country as a whole. do you think vendors differentiate between a straight customer and a gay customer buying their goods? the pastors collect offerings from gay people too so really they should be the last ones to make noise. but maybe you can answer that for yourself seeing as how you listed homosexuality as a social ill in the thread about bahamian youth.
LadyA 05-23-05, - 01:42 PM Beat me down if ya like but my answer is no because what difference does it make when they leave thier $$$ with The Straw Vendors and The Down Town Shops ( If I was a Straw Vendor or a Shop Owner I would just be happy they spending )
Personally I am against same sex relations BUT who I am to judge ?
I would just like to add, I have worked around lesbians and gay men and we got along quite fine ( they still human beings ya know )
Anyway this is about Gay Cruises so I wont stray OFF Topic (lol)
chancellor 05-23-05, - 02:06 PM For a country who need all the tourists we can get, It's stupid to turn away certain types of people. Turning away just cruise ships wont keep gays tourists out, because of course there is the plane. It's not like we can have people state their sexual orientation on the immigration cards and then bar at the ports of entry.
In a larger prospective it just hurts the entire indusrty, because when you turn away any person, you dont just turn away one human being, you turn away hundreds of their freinds and thousands of their supporters (gay or not) who can be potential customers. Never underestimate the power of communication, word gets around dead quick!!!
And talking about nudists, there are thousands of rocks and cays that they can have their little secluded getaway. it dosen't mean that we have to allow people to run around Prince Goerge Wharf sporting their birthday suit.
islandgyal 05-23-05, - 03:25 PM As soon as we craft a Caribbean-wide law that prevents divorced heterosexuals from disembarking from cruise ships that frequent our holy ports, THEN I say we draw up similar legislation to stop these gay infidels from spending money on our shores. This freedom of choice to live our lives in any way we choose has just gone TOO far.
:liar:
Abraham (and do NOT mock my outside children, you agnostic beast you)
i wonder what the churches stance is on the hetrosexuals that have anal sex??
bahmaboy 05-24-05, - 01:08 AM . but maybe you can answer that for yourself seeing as how you listed homosexuality as a social ill in the thread about bahamian youth.
i never in that post used the term social ill, i do think it is problem not becuase they are gay but becuase it is uncessary. if only the majority of these wayward bahamians fathers would stay at home and handle their business, these numbers would be lower. in that post i also never said i thought anything was wrong with it or that i think gay bahamian youth should be disrespected, humilated, judged, and run otta town.
rory i agree with you is hetrosexual anal sex wrong, after all the same equipment is used to get the job done
in my opinon most bahamians dont even have an inch to speak and condemn these people, especially the majority of our homophobic men who treat their wives so unkindly and dont check for der chirren, A MAN WHO DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF HIS FAMILY IS AN INFIDEL IN GODS EYES. the ones who are lazy, idle, and glutonous are just as sinful in God's eyes. the ones who cohabitate and hope outta bed with their bf/gf whom they are not married to but yet they wanna run to the dock with protest sign!!!!???? check ur self
so lets tske their money and remeber the verse "Judge not least ye be Judged."
