View Full Version : School Stabbings
BAHMIA 04-15-05, - 02:26 PM Good points, but before fingers start-a-pointing at teachers let's bring it back a notch to the students who are stabbing each other and causing these violent situations in our school system.
I wonder how closely teachers work with guidance counsellors and social services to combat social problems/issues that manifest themselves in the academic environment.
Back then, many guidance counsellors I encountered thought that even presenting college inforamtion and answering questions was too much work for them. :biggie:
Alien 04-15-05, - 03:09 PM we should have never followed suit with no corporal punishment in the schools.....
we just shouldnt have!!
we should however make it a process under which certain school admin can administer beatings...so that not any ole fool can give a beating!
also..i feel we should find a way to put disruptive students in longer school periods!
kids do strange things to act out against what they really dont like....
we may play with these kids, but moms and popps probably dont play with em..when moms and popps are around!
and i say that becasue we think that all of the disruoptive kids are un-supervised...not at all true, a lot are supervised, its just that the kind of supervision is what matters!!
and to be honest, from experience, a child with no mom or popps around and a house to take care of doesnt care to fight in the streets...he would prefer to find food and clothes...fighting is the last thing on his mind!!
canewry 04-15-05, - 05:40 PM I thought it was only me with those kinds of problems. I too moved from my former high school because of the stress. It was a private school, and my parents too wondered what was my problem, although, I was not the cause. Because teachers are not equipped to deal with instances occurring beneath the surface, it only adds to the real problem.
Man what school was this?

U sure, i just graduated right, and i remembered that teachers cant beat (some still do) however admins can beat. In C R Walker, Coach Clarke, and those dont hesistate to punish ppl. Dont know if it changed since June however.
And about puttin ppl out of school, they should and i was glad to see in CR Walker where Coach Clarke and the rest of administration start to do mass expulsions of trouble makers.

welll,lets keep it that way!
i would use a two pronged strategy, cane em from admin, and then keep them in skool til five, 9-3 with the regular population, and then 3-5 or 6 with supervised work and study time!
one day detention wont cut it...i hate having to ask our school teachers to do more...but we have to ask them to do more!
Legally and Morally, there should not be any physical interaction, regardless if they are law enforcement, and especially if they are simply a teacher or a principal in a school - unless it is in the process of stopping a crime, self defence, etc. Thats why they have detention, Expulsion, Suspension, and Jails.
But it seems that in the ghettos things like 'beating' a kid are allowed to take place. The police in the ghetto sadly follow through with the same mentality and "beat" suspects while in custody. Strangely they dont have the sense to realise that physically abusing a person is not going to change the way that person thinks or what they do; it is just going to make it worse.

and i guess no phnysical beatings for you is what has made you into an upstanding person like yourself!!
full of good kind things to say about all mankind!!
well, to answer your question..sometimes the only thing some people understand in violence..you cant class the way you think with the way someone esle is supposed to respond!
i fully back corporal punishemnt to be administered by school admin, and then enforced with longer school poeriods for teenage students who have a behavioral problem!
I wasnt asking your opinion.
Alien 04-17-05, - 04:19 PM I wasnt asking your opinion.
but i was restating my opinion!
and that is that limited corporal punuishment should be allowed, and that longer school supervision given to our kids who are troubled!

What is it with the constant referencing to the 'ghetto'. Unruly kids can come from any enviroment, rich or poor, they are not unique to 'ghettoes'. While some of these 'priveleged' kids may not act out in school, how many of them go home and verbally and physically abuse their parents without fear of reprimand? Thats a serious problem in itself. The authority of parents and teachers is slowly becoming non-existent in this country, and I fear that we will face a crisis, like that occurring in the States.
In no way am I condoning violence against children, and I believe that administrators and select teachers should have the authority to discipline unruly children. But we can not allow children to take away the reins of authority from adults in the schools and the homes.
If a "time out' works for your kids then lucky you, but for other kids that may not work. They may need the sting of the belt to put them in place. Responsible and sound adults know how far to go when it comes to conducting corporal punishment.
