View Full Version : Junkanoo report is out! skept 03-18-03, - 12:03 PM Whoo hoo! Apparently we lost about $1.2 million on 2002/03 Junkanoo parades. Ahh, such Wisdom! cvm 03-19-03, - 09:58 PM Thank God the report is finally out! Anybody hearing Neville Wisdom in the House of Assembly today will certainly know that his intentions were honourable and sincere. Yes, we lost $1 million in the process. But something had to be done about our national festival which was an unholy mess. At least Minister Wisdom took a stand, a bold step I must say. He did not fail, he did not "waste" the people's money. He and his team made a few misjudgements and they can be corrected very easily. For the first time in ten years I attended jukanoo with my three children and felt safe, comfortable and enjoyed the parades better than all the years I could remember. With some fine tuning, we need to secure permanent bleachers and keep the new ticket system in place with lower prices. I give him high marks and would encourage the new Junkanoo Committee to fine-tune last year's system on Bay Street and Junior Junkanoo. Keep up the good work Ministry of Youth and Culture. The FNM must be joking about the Minister's resignation. No way! Someone please ask Tommy and Alvin dem about the building on Poinciana Hill, the building on JFK Drive, the $1 million to put cameras in the House of Assembly and Senate and the contracted company went broke with our $1 million, ask them about the road contracts and the missing money from junkanoo parades in previous years! Need I go on? skept 03-20-03, - 06:01 PM I must ask for forgiveness! I had not known the infallable nature of Nevy until you pointed it out. I am now his sworn follower who will cover his mistakes.. ah, misjudgments, no, improvements! with my own mesmerzing drivel until the day die. I mean, who was I to pass judgement (such an unChristian thing) and to think that I, a mere citizen, had thought that there could have been other things to spend the money on. I confess that I had the irrational thought that culture was more than sports and Junkanoo. I had such feeble thoughts as a writing programme which coul produce plays that would have an impact on the youth for generations, help in shaping Bahamian culture into more than the Cult of Hilfiger. I was so stupid to believe that art in the country could be made, that books could be written, that MINDS COULD BE MOLDED IN A POSITIVE WAY FOR YEARS with the amount of money an IDIOT has spent on RENTING, not even purchasing, bleachers for a few days over the holiday. I can see that Wisdom is just another Hilfiger in this country. Dis you to your face so he can be praised on high like a demonic idol of Moses's Isreal. southandros 03-20-03, - 09:22 PM Junkanoo is part of the Bahamian history and the majority who participate in junkanoo are average bahamians. I don't have a problem with the ticket price increasing but why double it? how can we compare junkanoo with concerts. Junkanoo did not just occur, that is a part of our history and we are not bringing Junkanoo in our country, it is already here. I go on Bay Street every year and I purchase tickets for seating but this year, as much as I like Junkanoo I refused to attend. The prices in the tickets increased ridiculously, not by 10 percent or 20 percent but by 50 percent. Junkanoo isn't a priority to me so I decided not to go. If I wanted to, I would have purhased the tickets no matter what but with me it is the principal that counts. I feel those who attended had Junkanoo deep in their souls or had some family member there to support, otherwise, I don't think anyone with common sense would have paid that. Also, they may have profited more if they raised the prices but not as high. I felt for the poorer bahamians who couldn't buy tickets because they were the first to participate in Junkanoo. The bleachers were nice, and everything were nicely arranged but the prices were steep and how can the bahmians who are already adapted to taking their whole family afford this? southandros 03-20-03, - 09:54 PM Junkanoo doesn't qualify for out west if ya ask me. That area is too rich for noise all morning and black bahamians roaming the streets. Also, the residents are afraid that someone might decide to break in their houses am in the morning.:p:o Quantum Leap 04-14-03, - 10:55 AM Firstly, thank God that the Junkanoo Report is out!!! I was suspicious as to the way the report was delayed so many times. In fact I was not surprise at all when the Report came out that there was a loss of 1.2 million dollars. With the ticket price increase, I would think that Mr. Wisom's "Excellent Plan" would have gained we 1.2 million dollars. :jawdroop: Therefore what was the purpose of the ticket increase? :dgi: I can tell what type of business man he his. Furthermore, I feel that the Bahamian public should have boycotted Junakanoo. I bet you the ticket prices would have fallen drastically. Lord help us next Junkanoo, how much millions will we lose? dreeve 04-14-03, - 05:36 PM I, as an american living here attended the New Years Junkanoo Parade. Being here since Jan 21st of this past year, I heard all the stories of past Junkanoos and was educated on the different groups, by my wife, a former Valley Boy supporter. I loved the festival. I did find it sad that as we stood along the side of Bay Street in the FREE section, no one was filling the expensive rented canadian bleachers. Guess Mr Wisdom didn't see the wisdom. Madame Speaker 04-18-03, - 12:19 AM Some of you people CAN'T BE SERIOUS! In all a Hubert's drunkerdness, the FNM administration never wasted $1.2 million dollars on borrowed steel. To his persecutors: At least he had the decency to "appropriate" Bahamian funds into HIS account instead of some foreign entity across the sea. The GOVERNMENT in a DEMOCRATIC nation should be scrutinized by its citizens, or is this Iraq? And instead of our Pastor, I mean Prime Minister reprimanding WIse-dumb to ensure that this charade never occurs again, he commends him for it! pharoah 04-21-03, - 07:04 PM THE JUNKANOO FIASCO IS WHAT IT IS CALL.THE JUNKANOO REPORT IS JUST THAT, AN UNQUALIFIED REPORT. THE AUDITORS COULD NOT QUALIFY THE REPORT BECAUSE CERTAIN INFORMATION THAT THEY ASK FOR WAS NOT GIVEN. THE PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER WISDOM HAS NOT ADDRESS THIS ASPECT OF THE REPORT. HIRING AN ACCOUNTING FIRM TO GIVE US THE INFORMATION THAT THEY GIVE US WAS INDEED A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY ONCE AGAIN. THE PRIME MINISTER WAS QUICK TO TELL THE NATION THAT HE WANTED A REPORT THAT WOULD IN ALL INTENT COMPARE THE LAST JUNKANOO FINANCES UNDER THE FNM WITH THE PRESENT JUNKANOO REPORT. MUCH TO THE DISSAPOINTMENT OF THE PRIME MINISTER AND HIS ENTIRE GOVERNMENT. BAHAMIANS BENEFITTED FROM THE JUNKANOO PARADES HELD UNDER THE FNM. THE LAST JUNKANOO ONLY BENEFITTED THE CANADIANS. IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE KEEN INSIGHT OF THE FORMER PRIME MINISTER THE TREASURY COULD HAVE BEEN A FEW THOUSAND DOLLLARS LESS. THE CANADIAN WORKERS AT THE TIME OF MR INGRAHAMS STATEMENT IN THE HOUSE HAD NOT PAID FOR WORK PERMITS. BAHAMIANS FIRST…TRUTH OR RHETORIC? MINISTER WISDOM MUST BE THE MOST ARROGANT MAN IN THE ENTIRE BAHAMAS.FIRST HE TOLD THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE THAT HE AND THE MINISTRY HAD DID THEIR RESEARCH AND EXPECTED A GROSS OF 3 MILLLION DOLLARS AND A PROFIT OF JUST OVER A MILLION DOLLARS! AFTER THE REPORT WE HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE DRYERS AND LEFT HUNG OUT TO DRY AT A LOSS OF OVER A MILLION DOLLARS. MINISTER WISDOM SHOULD HAVE APOLOGIZE TO THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE AND DID THE HONORABLE THING AND RESIGN. THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVE WITH GOOD INTENTIONS…BUT I WONDER IF THIS JUNKANOO MESS WAS DONE WITH GOOD INTENTIONS? EITHER WAY IT APPEARS THAT JUNKANOO WAS TAKEN TO HADES…FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STATE THAT THIS JUNKANOO WAS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL JUNKANOO OF LATE IS INDEED RIDICULOUS. THEY MUST BE OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE OR MUST BELIEVE THAT WE ARE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS. I FOR ONE KNOW THAT THIS JUNKANOO SEASON WAS ONE OF THE MOST CONTROVESIAL AND STRESSFUL. I MUST SAY THAT I HAD A DOUBLE WHAMMY THIS TIME AROUND. MY JUNKANOO GROUP THE VALLEY BOYS WAS ROB BLIND IN THE NEW YEARS JUNKANOO PARADE IN ADDITION THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE AND I WAS ROBBED OF A MILLLION LARGE ONES. THE MOST INSULTING ASPECT OF THIS JUNKANOO FIASCO WAS THE PLP RESOLUTION IN THE HOUSE TO THANK MINISTER WISDOM FOR THE LOST OF OVER A MILLLION DOLLARS. WHOM THE GODS WHICH TO DESTROY, THEY FIRST MAKE MAD. :dunce: :dunce: :dunce: |
