A black Ford Truck crashed into a light pole and then into a drive way of a home on Blue Hill road south around 12:15am in the area of sunshine park. No one was reported to be injured and the driver reportedly fled the scene. Residents were awaken by what was reported to be sounds of fireworks after a loud bang. Police and BEC were on the scene in minutes.

It's about time I got the news first :D
Good thing I keep my camara close by me.

good pictures delroy... ;-)
looks like they took out the car in the driveway too?

they are always knocking our wall down here, never been componsated as either they drive away or tow it away before the cops come, or the cops never show up. Since I got my camera (and cameras) so far it hasnt happened again .. yet. normally happens on a sunday night too! Ive seen cars and trucks flipped over, wrapped around the lampost, motorbike head on collision with a car (he was run off the road), car run off the road and burned to the ground while waiting 45 minutes for the cops and the fire to arrive, huge peices of my wall coming through my window at 4am in the morning, gang fights between drivers who were racing and crashed into each other, and, just some really wasted drivers that ran off the road and ended up in the wall, ... well the list goes on ...

12am, thats kind of early, everything i seen round here was at like 3-5am ..

I think it is sickening and a great pity that we are having so many road accidents where people are getting killed or seriously injured!

And much of this is caused by speeding, 'cause the faster you drive, the more difficult it is to handle a car in an emergency! [Ok, take it easy Rory, I don't mean you!].

I would have thought that after those recent fatal accidents, drivers would slow down if only for a couple months, but it does not seem so! A psychologist once said that you can tell everything about a persons character by the way he or she drives!

I just wish and hope that we can get to the bottom of this thing and put something in place to help us become more careful drivers! One thing that could help is for us to be more punctual -- that way, there would not be the need to be so hasty, hurry and speedy all the time!

And much of this is caused by speeding

It happens while they are driving fast alot of times (not in all accidents), but generally that is not the underlying cause of it. The cause in the majority of night time accidents are drinking and driving, falling asleep at the wheel, or just plain running red lights. The majority of ones ive seen were loosing control on a corner or overtaking on a corner, while drunk and doing like 70mph!

Its common sense that regardless of speed, if a person cant drive they shouldnt be on the road in the first place, let alone driving fast. It also takes more than just knowing how to handle a car, you have to know when it is safe to go certain speeds, do this, do that, overtake, etc. There are more than enough people on the roads in Nassau without a clue how or when to slow down, stop, yield, give way, etc, and alot of them are doing 20-30mph, or 60 ...

There isnt anything wrong with doing 40 or 50 in the right area at the right time, and knowing when to slow down or stop. The problem is not speeding, it is the people on the roads in Nassau that require further drivers ed. Driving over 70mph is just something that happens when they get drunk and drive :-)
Driving over 50 is just asking for trouble anyway ..

If they handle the people that cant drive and drunk drivers, etc, then speeding wouldnt be an issue, as no drunk drivers would run you off the road, noone running red lights killing you, noone coming out in front of you instead of waiting, noone loosing control on a corner cause they cant handle their car, .. etc ..

Ofcourse if they are doing 60+ on eastern road then they are asking for an accident ..! I also think they should book people for driving too slow, like 20 in a 35mph speed limit, its rediculous ... they have nowhere to go, but we sure do, its called making a living!

Trust me, in the service industries such as burlgar alarms, cctv, etc, when you get on a job you never know how long you will be there, when you have 10 service calls in one day, thats hard to do at 30mph, in fact, no mattere what speed you cant do that anyway, due to the traffic jams .. and alot of the traffic is caused by people that cant drive, drive too slow or come out too slow at lights, etc.

There are obviously issues during the day, but the majority of deadly ones are occuring at night or in the early hours of the morning .. so the day time traffic stops by the cops at cable beach, etc, are just useless. They need to come out on a Sunday Night and they would actually be doing some good for this country. But wait ... theyre probably the ones on those motor bikes anyway .. soo ...

Where are the people in nassau tryin to go?

There's no road for speeds more than 45mph and thats on the highway. Oh! That's why people from Nassau always end up running into our green policemen when they visit Eleuthera. The roads are long and narrow with very little traffic and no traffic or street lights on the highway.

Ya'll have highways there??? Highways mean average speed limit is 55mph otherwise it cant be called a highway, its just a road. And if you want to call it a motorway, then it should be an average 70mph, if its a dual carriageway, well, in Nassau, thats just a joke!

There are plenty of roads to do 45mph, in fact, if you look at the so called "highway" in Nassau, it passes multiple schools so the speed limit there is retarded anyway, or the name of it being called a highway for sure is. Then thats what happens when you have dummies running a country, they pass dumb laws (these were passed a long time ago so no pun intended to the current gov though they could change it to sensible speed limits so they too are to blame). 45mph is a normal speed if you know how to drive. If your car cant cruise reasonably at 50 then it shouldnt be on the road, not saying you need to do 50, but most cars in Nassau shouldnt be on the road.

As for where are people in Nassau trying to go ?? ... Guess what, i do 50mph in 2nd gear with ease, I mean 30mph is pushing the low gear into boredom ... so driving at 45mph is like breathing air ... and if I dont get where Im going, i dont get paid, and guess what, that means I dont eat tonight .... But I think most people that do drive over the speed limit do so to get off the road as fast as possible, due to the large amount of bad drivers there are in Nassau; its just no fun driving in Nassau - I for one hate it .. im sure im not alone. I get "run off the road" at least every other day from bad drivers, and mostly slowwww drivers.. and thats when I am following every road law known to man .... do you call that fun?

(NOTE: not directed to you) If you can't do at least the speed limit in Nassau, or pull off from the traffic light at a reasonable response, then you shouldnt be on the road, cause I will be the first to overtake ...
once the coast is clear

Note to road traffic - stop the idiocy, raise the speed limits to normal speeds where it can be, and start a traffic rehab/ed to get all the bad drivers off the road .. ... .. retake drivers licence exams, yes, and make it count this time around. This time they cant pay for it like in the previous governments!
