A massive strike could be looming on the horizon at the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) after its senior management advised yesterday that disciplinary action - in the form of pay cuts - was taken against the 514 employees who left their posts without permission during the unauthorized work stoppages in New Providence and Grand Bahama on August 11 and 12.

I agree with the FNM on this one not just because the strike was illegal, but because of where it was done. On bay street, the life line of the Bahamas. So they deserve whats coming to them.

Look here, what the govt need to do is fire these stupid, lazy, ungrateful sons of biatches cuz I know plenty people who are desperately seeking work right now and will get down on their knees and scrub a pissy floor if they have to just to feed their children.

You walk ya triflin, politically motivated arse off the man job illegally, block up traffic illegally using company vehicles without authorisation, etc and nothing is supposed to happen to you?

Bahamians are sickening man. I'm telling you these wutless people need to take a trip throughout this region and let their big eyes get opened up about how the rest of the world lives.

AMEN brother! Maybe they should have thought about the consequences before they let some IDIOT talk them into doing foolishness. You think ANYONE in the private sector would NOT have been fired if they had pulled this stunt, not to mentioned charged by the police?

So if they enraged over pay cuts then let them have their pick of punishment

1. Jail Time

2. Push the BTC vehicles to Bay St. and back on a public holiday so we could line the streets and cheer

3. Pay Cut

Bet a pay cut looking good compared to the first two.

Man Pharoh I so crucial with dis ting! Have you travelled this region? I have and I am telling you Bahamians need a wake up call. These BTC workers in many cases sit they arse down in AC all day tiefing services and giving it to their friends, giving you rotten customer service and listenin in on people phone conversation, and then gonna have the nerve to just get up and walk off their job and expect to be able to do that just like that with no punishment? What kind of sheet is that?

This is why (apart from global economics) our tourism numbers are dropping and we are so far behind in many respects...the attitude and mindset of Bahamians need to change man. We honestly believe the government and tax payers owe us something, regardless of the piss poor work and attitude we display. The mindset of Bahamians is truly a national disgrace.

Now THERE it is. You said it right there. Government workers do what they want, when they want, how they want cuz they know at the end of the day, it is almost impossible for a govt worker to get fired, between the union, general orders and politics. Most people will not do right if they know they dont have to.

Thats why the public sector in The Bahamas is a cesspool of incompetents, miscreants, obstructionists and downright wutless folk who make it their business to suffocate anyone in the public service who doesnt fit that description.

I totally concur with you. I know first hand about the work ethics of Bahamians. It has gone to the dogs. It is very sad that Bahamians think they have a right to practice azz and to have no repercussion as a result. It is symptomatic of our society. It simply cant be condone or even allow to go unpunished, the total chaos and downright abuse of the public vehicles and the public time that BTC workers wrought on the tax payers. Enough is enough!!

Bahamian work ethic = oxymoron!

But wat you expect when the previous Minister was on Bay Street doing da Christie shuffle to da sting song "Da gubment dem".

Shame and scandal!

You said it...Bahamians have this mind boggling sense of entitlement because "Bahamianisation" told them that they should have everything they want just because they are Bahamian, whether or not they deserve it or earn it or even need it. And that same mindset exists today.

A Bahamian believes every job should be theirs, even though they feel they are too good for many of those jobs, and even though when they get on the job they will steal half the man's time everyday doing absolutely nothing, and then will rob him of the other half by producing work in the remaining four hours that amounts to about 10 minutes of actual production time.
