Hi Richard,

Thanks so much for your encouragement. Yes, you're right. We have do have a lot of writing talent in the Bahamas.

I formed the Bahamas Writers Group in January 2003, thinking it would just be a few writers meeting monthly over coffee. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) the BWG grew so much that it was becoming like a second job for me! I also had little time for my own writing or for my website http://www.bahamaswriter.com

Regretfully, I decided that I'd have to hand the leadership over to another member or team of members of the group’s choice. At the July 2003 meeting members voted that it should be a team – and eight members volunteered to be part of this new team!

The group also voted to maintain the goals and policies of the BWG that I had set up:-

To have fun writing; enjoy the camaraderie of fellow writers; motivate and inform each other as writers; improve the quality of our writing; get published more; and as individual writers, to be recognized locally and internationally.

We took a break in August and the BWG met again in September, with the new team in place. Unfortunately, it seems to have floundered since then. I will post an announcement here if the group starts up again.

I do offer writers’ forums on my website – http://www.bahamaswriter.com (“An informal guide & source of inspiration for new and not so new writers worldwide” – with fourteen sections on writing) and these can meet a need for our local writers as well as for many writers worldwide.

Just go to my website http://www.bahamaswriter.com and click on the tab "Forums". I have thirteen forums ranging from “Market News and Calls for Submissions” to “Article, Story, Poem or Book Critique Area” to “Song Writing”.

Best wishes,
Fay

Hi CG,

It doesn't look as though the BWG will start up again, but did you notice the posting by Dennis Dames about the new Commonwealth Writers of the Bahamas group?

Dennis says the first AGM is October 21 at the Nassau Yacht Club, starting 7 p.m. I'm going to try to be there.

Hope all is well.

Best wishes,
Fay

Wow just checked out the website...
It's excellent! I wish you good luck with this project and would like to join when things are up and running again.
Also, I would like to mention a Bahamian poetry board room, where one can post poetical works, obtain updates on poetry readings, book signings etc, and make comments on members works.

Thanks so much canewry. The Bahamas Writers Group unfortunately floundered after I passed leadership over to a voluteer team, but I think the new Commonwealth Writers of the Bahamas group will really go places.

Your Bahamian poetry board room sounds fascinating. I tried to access Spokenwordpoetsinthebahamas, but a log in box popped up. Please let me know what to do. Thanks!
