The recent spate of violent attacks by assailants armed with knives continued over the Whit Monday holiday weekend with one victim succumbing to injuries and another detained in hospital after sustaining serious wounds at the hands of persons they reportedly knew.
Police reports indicate that around 10:45 Friday night, Wizo Baptiste of Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama became involved in an argument with an acquaintance while in an area known as Monkey Yard in Pinedale.
Mr. Baptiste’s girlfriend reportedly telephoned police a short time later informing them that the other man had stabbed Baptiste multiple times in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot, Police Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna said.
Upon arriving at the scene of the attack police officers discovered the victim’s body outside of a house lying face up.
Mr. Hanna said Mr. Baptiste was taken to Rand Memorial Hospital, but was eventually pronounced dead.
Police were reportedly searching for a Haitian male described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall, of slim build and dark brown complexion in connection with the slaying.
Police in New Providence, meanwhile, were looking for the person responsible for stabbing Valdano Rolle, 18, around 7:45 Saturday evening.
"According to [the victim], he was walking with a friend on Fourth Street (Coconut Grove) when he was approached by a male known to him," Chief Superintendent Hanna reported.
"A scuffle ensued between Rolle and this person, which resulted in Rolle being stabbed to the neck."
The victim was reportedly taken to hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Mr. Hanna also reported that police officers, acting on information received, went to a bushy area off Shrimp Road in the vicinity of South West Christian Academy around 7:50 Saturday night where they discovered the body of a woman lying on her back.
The woman was believed to be in her 20’s and was clad in a pair of white Capri pants and a black top with a floral design, according to Mr. Hanna, who added that the body was found about 100 feet into the bushes.
According to police reports, the body was believed to have been at that spot for at least two days.
Mr. Hanna said foul play was not suspected as a cause of death. However, police investigations were ongoing.
