I dont know maybe I am being negative but i drive around town and see people situations and I cant help but think what is goin to happen to the future of the bahamas, especially the bahamian male. It seems as though most of the girls pregnant, sleepin with older men, and just doin all the wrong things and making all the wrong choices. It is definatly clear the bahamian male is in trouble: gangs, drugs, laziness, raising homosexuality, teenage fathers, womanising etc. My aunt is a teacher in a public highschool and she said for every 3 children in the top three streams there are about 10 in the lower streams. this means the majority of our high schools students have a high rate of not getting a diploma or dropping out altogether. what does this mean for our future? i am really glad darryl miller had those upstanding students on last week, who showed me that all is not lost but the problem is in my opinion the socially stronger and more educated youth usally do not stay in the bahamas, am i wrong? will we be o.k. 10,15,30 years from know

You're right. Most of the best of the Bahamas leave home with a thin chance of returning. There are alot of positives, but at the same time alot of negetives. Its not like there's nothing to do. Trust me if I live in Nassau with all the programs you all have going on my resume would really be somethiing to look at. I think we're so infused with things that were so unheard of no more than 20 years ago (or at least wasnt so exposed). Maybe we're not getting the message that these are the people that will be the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. And some youth only think that all you need is a car, some rims and a girl/boy to go with it and your set. The problem spreads beyond ghetto and "sub standard" conditions. so attention should not just go to inner city youth but to all because this dosen't discriminate.

The saddest part is that both the positive and negative elements are leaving the Bahamas. The brightest make their contributions elsewhere, and the bad element only make us shame.

I was so embarrassed that this guy has a Bahamian roots.

For those, who don't want to click on the link, it's about that 17 yr.-old guy who raped and almost killed that 8 yr. old girl in Florida a day or two ago. Ironically, even though this has no connection, his name is Cunningham, same as the guy who's being charged in North Carolina for that 'other' incident.

These youth are out of control.

Sad isnt it, I also also alarmed to find out he was Bahamian. Whats gets in the mind of a man/teenager ( any nationality that is ) to rape and kill a child.

this is possible but i am not talking about gender confused people. i am talking about guys and girls that just sleep with the same sex. i have met a few that say they really dont know why they do it becuase they dont love the person and its not a relationship.

Hey Bahamaboy,

I totally agree your point. To add to it, I think that the situation with the youth in our country is heavily influence by self perception. I.e. we make the decisions to put ourselves in the predicament to get pregnant; we allow ourselves to be overcome by covetousness and set no priority, just to throw out a few examples. Being a young person myself, if we set higher standards for ourselves, prioritized better and have more self-respect that could change alot of the decisions we make as young individuals. As for the future, well only God almighty can controll the destiny of anything. "Wayward" people with "wayward" thinking has little to do with it. Nice topic though, nice to see someone looking out for the youth in this country.

exactly, the only way our society is going to change is for everyone to take responsibility for themselves. take upon your self not to become a youth statistic. once everyone does this as a society we will begin to see a change for the better
