canewry 10-28-05, - 11:07 PM £40 is equivalent to about $80 (www.bulldogbroadband.com) and we just got this technology this year! It even costs £8 ($16) just to drive a car in London. Given these few points which constitute the minute tip of the iceberg. I hope you all will appreciate the good things about the Bahamas you live in. Even though it bores the pants off of me. If you were to compare it to the rest of the caribbean it would always come out on top. Even the fellas over da hill I know in Nassau have more money than the poor sods I live around here in London and this is supposed to be where all the money is!! The Bahamas kicks! Don't let any poor little Englishman, etc... tell you any different! I live here. Its more backwards than anything Bahamian ever!
Ok...So thats my rant over then.... I'm going to hop on my bike now, cycle off to my £23,000 a year job in jolly old London town and leave you poor financially/technologically backwards natives to do whatever it is you do down there;-) Ta ra! :realmad: :uk: :realmad:
Very much entertained...except, when one makes only $16,000 a year and the basic neccessities adds up to $21,000 then you have a problem.

What our UK pal forgets to inform us is, that they get "something" in return for that tax .. we dont get anything here, except some biblical speaches.
Also, if they are living in London, and especially in the City, then obviously they are living in the most expensive part of the UK.
At least if he only has 50 pence in his pocket he can get something to eat ... besides cheese crackers or cheetos ;-0

Yep, my brother was buying dinner for 50p in the food store in Manchester .. yah know he was broke and ting, but the TV tax is just per household right? Still its a crazy tax, but, doesnt it get you commercial free TV?
Petrol is expensive there now so yeah you going to pay for it .. :-)
Still alot cheaper cost of living than the bahamas.
Abiskan Moon-Angel 10-29-05, - 10:50 PM mmm. well i dont know about the majority of english people, but i know WE dont have a tv, and thats mainly because we are hardly home long enough to watch it! plus, reality isnt my thing, and i find most of the stuff on tv these days is pure junk! great though, becuase then i keep up with reading! tv licence supposedly means you have NO adverts, but in reality, i think you simply have very few...i think its too high, but well, noone else seems to be complaining!
As for 50 p meals...i suppose in manchester...its pretty cheap up north, but london just runs you dry! four of us just went to the cinema (a cheaper one) and paid £24 only in tickets! thats about 40 bucks excluding food and transportation! but hey, movies are a special treat...the key to living in london: NEVER CONVERT INTO DOLLARS!!!!

and yes, well, even the congestion charge increases to £12 pounds january! ie: to drive a car in certain parts of central london between specific hours during the week, you must pay that charge....and trust me you dont pay - THEY WILL catch you and FINE you...i think both the UK and Bahamas have their pros and cons though!:bahamas:
Yeah I heard London is expensive now, but the sallaries are higher right?
My brother was complaining about tax too, but still he was making double in the same industry, than when he was working here, and he worked less hours there, plus, people actually thanked him for coming to work .. LOL
I think its more like both "Central London" and "Nassau" ... have their pros and cons .. :-)

No TV? dayum, life must be hard. What do you be doing, not to have time to watch tv?
Abiskan Moon-Angel 10-29-05, - 11:15 PM No TV? dayum, life must be hard. What do you be doing, not to have time to watch tv?
are you joking? no thanks. dont want to fill my free time watching big brother and desperate housewives! tv=garbage these days (as far as i'm concerned). dont get me wrong, you can find interesting documentaries, etc, but thats about it. really canewry, i mi=ay sound dull, but i much prefer to read a book. thats the problem these days! we have become so dependant on tv, we no longer no how to entertain ourselves!
and yes rory, well, the value of the dollar has dropped and well, thats good news if you make an english salary (and shop abroad especially), but well, it means if you are a student here, for example - ya funds cut in HALF! so well, i guess it depends on what side of the coin you look at. london will forever be expensive though! compare rent at £35 p/week up north to £200 per WEEK in london! oh lord, dont get me thinking bout that!

What made you goto London and not up north ? :p
One of the main things holding me back from going back to the UK (other than everything else), is gotta be the british TV, which suckkks .. I need at least TNT, USA, and TBS .. my TV is next to my PC and both stay on 24/7 :-) I hate those network channels and them reality shows also ..
