People are afraid to speak their opinions because it might sound a little racist! But I'm not! I will let you know what I think of whoever, whenever. I don't care what the original subject of this thread is. Since I know you would come to this thread to find me, this is where I'll be. It is a simple matter of forum rules. I may disagree with many views on this forum, but I would rather play by the rules and discuss these issues in a structured forum. Understand that I don't like the introduction of sub-cultures. Jesus might have been thought of a being a part of a sub culture but in this age of knowledge and common sense even a fool should be able to distinguish culture from religion. Jesus braught about a religion. Not a sub-culture. Even though it might of been considered that in the past. That is precisely my point. Past sub-cultures have grown to be the accepted standard in the future. Lets look back, civil rights grew from the sub culture, so did freedom of religion. Remember when people fled from England to America? They were members of the sub culture. New ideas are born everyday, and most of the time they are shunned as being "too different" or "crazy". We cannot let these ignorant views prevent us from exploring new things, and trying out new ideas. After all, at one time it was crazy for a coloured person to own property, or to vote, or to sit in the front of a bus. But who told you I am a religious person. Who told you I beleive in Jesus or God. I personaly don't like the Europeans either. I tolorate them because they are neccessary to our Bahamian economy. The time will come when the Bahamas is liberated from the dependency of foreign investors. And when the time comes all you British, Canadian, Australian and whoever else is a descendant of the Anglo Saxon race will have to get packing and leave this land.:hot: Now you really do sound as ignorant as those hicks in the KKK. You are not dealing with the ignorant bahamians of yesteryears. We don't care for being servants of tourism. I will bite the hand that feeds me! For I am tired of eating the same old sh*t! The government better start thinking of alternative methods for economic stability. The bahamian youth are not interested in being servants. Just as the FNM was tossed out on their heads the PLP will be later! This is the age of technology. Our thoughts should be on having an economy based on information technology and industrial stability. Not bringing some hot sweaty white man his bahama-mama by the poolside as he tans his pink piglike skin!:hot: Only the ignorant will say that bahamians are not ready for careers where they will have to use their heads and think! From the start of our country our British counterparts predicted that we will be another wasted attemp to establish a residable country. Look at us now. Not to say I am marvaling at what we have accomplished, but I am grateful that we are not like the other struggling nations in the carribbean. And we have one man to thank for that. He is Sir L. O. Pindling. We bahamians have been selling ourselves short. We can be more than what we are. And the White trash of the world who resides in the Bahamas know that but can't stand that. I could not agree with you more on some of those points. Yes, the Bahamas needs to look beyond tourism and banking and being "servants of tourism". At the same time, this is our bread and butter, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. We are a tiny nation with few natural resources. Europe and England are able to sustain their economies with natural resources: coal, lumber, cattle, steel etc. The US does about the same. Travel to the middle east and you will find oil, oil, and more oil. The far east? They have silks, thriving electronics industries (cheap labour) and large commercial fishing operations. Now turn back to your homeland, the Bahamas. Our natural resources are few, the oceans are over fished as it is, we do not want to get involved in the oil industry due to the tremendous environmental impact if things go wrong. Where does that leave us? We have lots of salt. A country cannot survive on the exports of salt alone. While I love the idea of seeing the Bahamas become fully self sufficient, it simply isn't practical. We are a tiny island nation, with a high cost of living, and few natural resources. This is fact, not opinion. The ONLY reason we are comparatively better off than the rest of the Caribbean is our proximity to the US. As much as I hate to admit it, we depend on them, and it must stay that way. You paid homage to Pindling, saying that we owe a lot to him. We certainly do, drug dealing, weapons, corrupt police, and corrupt govt. His "legacy" has nearly destroyed this country. We need to put him behind us and look forward, move away from greed and corruption and towards free trade and being a safe place to conduct business and place investments. Ever thought about getting into the security industry? They would use a few sharp minds like yours. *duck* :shaky: NassauRocks 04-06-03, - 07:16 PM While reviewing a reply created by um…. Whoever? I started wondering why salt is so cheap. Salt is so important to the world. You can barely make a dish without the necessity of salt. I’m sure everyone realizes this. Check the ingredients of everything you consume. Almost everything we eat consists of the natural ingredient (Salt). We should be getting rich from the production of salt. Salt is like white oil to the food industry. In some countries in the world where snow happens to be a common obstacle that attributes to ice covered streets and bad driving conditions, can you believe that salt is so affordable that it is used to cover the streets and walkways. Think of the thousands of tons of salt bought every year. Think of the money to be made if salt costs as much as its value. But enough about salt! Those of you who had things to say about my opinion can choke on their words and just die. First of all, if I seem to be a racist it’s because I was made to think like this. Can you imagine not being able to go to a restaurant and grab a bite to eat because some white people don’t want to serve you? Can you imaging this during this day and age we live in? No I’m not talking about the past. This is not fifty years ago. This is just a few months ago. Have anyone ever been in Davie Florida. This city is located in the county of Broward. Imaging having to put illegal tints on your car because you don’t want to be harassed by cops. Can you believe cops are more content following and harassing young black people other than ticketing a motorist for having some illegal tints on their cars? What do you think about having to take a dead end job like telemarketing to pay your bills when you know that you are qualified to do something better. Think about responding to a job opening on the Internet. You go in for the interview, you are a holder of an Associates Degree majoring in computer programming. Only to be asked by a redneck recruiter “have you taken the companies test for new applicants?” I’ve achieved a degree from international telephone and telegraph (ITT) technical institute. Why would I be subjected to taking a test? Well after I perfected the demoralizing general education test I was told by the recruiter that she prefers putting me on a telemarketing account selling Direct TV satellite dishes over the phone. I am more than qualified to sell something over the phone that people can pickup almost anywhere. The difference of being an IT computer technical assistant for team IRT call center and a mere telemarketer is making $28k a year and making $9/hr. Lots of young black students graduate from colleges every year hoping to land a nice job to help their parents out financially. Explain why is it when I am working in a computer environment there is only white or Hispanic people that look white working that has the IT positions. It is very noticeable here in America that being black holds you back from achieving your goals, unless your goal is to become a sports entertainer. I am in a struggle to achieve my bachelors degree and I know that I don’t have the patients to live in America long enough to achieve a masters degree. It kills me to see the disparity between whites and blacks in America and then come to my home country and notice something I’ve seen before but had not realized it at the time. We seem like slaves and the only difference from then and now is that we get a paycheck. I know we have to work with whatever we’ve got but things have to change. For those of you who believe in God, ask him if there is any chance that a black nation in these days can be prosperous. For those of you who believe in God, ask him if there is any chance that a black nation in these days can be prosperous. start your own business, no 'white' (arent they red!?) people are stopping you. As for associate degrees, all races have problems getting jobs, even if they have degrees, experience is a must now adays, most people have to work as an apprentice, with little or no pay, no matter what race they are. I worked as a bus boy in a restaurant cleaning tables for $100 per week, living in a ghetto motel, for a year or so until i was able to move up to a food runner, then eventually a waiter making $1000 per week! (cause that only lasted until I got burned out doing 15 hour a day shifts) And I am caucasian ;-) It wasnt until later I realised you really dont get anywhere in life unless you do things for yourself, including work, and hence I have my own business and will never work for anyone else.(though had to work for nothing to start with to learn everything) as for the racist where you live, I would move, the US is a huge country, florida is probably the last place I would live, I would move up north more, there is more money and opportunity in the northern states. As for not getting served, its actually hard to get served here in Nassau some times, most of the cashiers are always on the phone to their sweethearts, so i just walk out and go somewhere else, and then that is when the businesses are even open! Anyway, hope it gets better. Salt is a good idea for the bahamas, and i think there was silk too at one time? Both big industries. PS. there are very prosperous people here in the Bahamas, and most of them own there own business, though beware, they work hard for it, no 9-5s, its 24-7 (for all races) Delroy 04-06-03, - 08:12 PM I understand your pain but you can't judge an entire race because of a few narrow minded people. When you do that you become just like them and pass on the same stereotyping that you are now getting. Render good for evil and you wount have to move anywhere. "See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all." 1 Thessalonians 5:15 |
