View Full Version : I Just Dont Get It !!!
Vicky 06-13-05, - 07:50 AM Vicky you obvioulsy have serious issues with the Christian Church , which is why you feel the need to blame them for everything from the rain flooding out Pinewood to pregnant single mothers on our streets (sarcasm). Please, use some rational in you responses, and think for a minute before throwing the hatchet at the church. I use rational all the time. Look at the church buildings how many and how grand. Look at the homeless and hunger how many and how helpless (as in their situation) The accounting, well a blind person could do that and see the church(as in the people) is vain for the money they spend on their church buildings .
The church is no way perfect, but they cant be held responsible for the stupid choices people make in their lives,I agree and neither must they always bear the brunt of these choices. You are so right but I can,t think of anyone who Christ would turn his back on if they were in need. Sometimes, yes sometimes, we all have to take responsibilty for our own actions and our own choices in life, and stop passing the buck. Which is the reason many people cant take a handle of their lives, because they always blaming someone else.
The church feeding a single mother and her child barely scrapes the surface of the issue of single parent homes, fatherless or motherless children, and deadbeat parents. It is in fact more complex, and to put that burden entirely on the church is not fair, when most of us are free thinking individuals that make our own choices regardless of what the church says or does. It is in fact society's problem.
Like I said before parents take responsibility for the children that you bring into this world. When you lie down be man and woman enough to carry the burden that comes up with you. That is what being a responsible adult is all about. The business of the church is not to take in and pamper every single mother who as five kids for five different men, their business is in fact to steer then from that type of situation to help these women including the men to make the right choices when it comes to their future.

Exactly

So for you its cool that the church takes and takes and the preachers are living rich while we have poor and homeless.
Rizzo 06-17-05, - 10:14 AM No Vicky, I don't think anybody would believe that it's cool...
However, neither is it cool to stereotype churches, by generalizing that all churches are greedy and do nothing to help the poor and needy. You seem to disregard the positive impact some churches have on society, and group all churches as having the same motive - $$$.
Moving on to your idea on feeding the poor, I had that same idea a while back after having dinner at Marketplace. I found out that they throw out all the left over food at the end of the day, and staff aren't even allowed to take any of it home. This disturbed me a bit as I too thought that it could go to people who need it.
Still, at the end of the day, I didn't think it would be a successful drive, as the food items are perishable, and therefore can only be given to the folks that day. Seeing that they dispose of the food at the end of the day (at nighttime) the food still would not be deliverable at a reasonable time. Therefore I favored organizations that purchase food items and take them to folks instead. I know the food is delivered, and I can even go along if I wish.
But if you could figure out someway for it to work out with the restaurants, that's still a good thought in my books.

Rizzo, took the words right out my mouth ( excluding the $$ )
:bye2:

that is horrible, i cant believe it. i eat at the marketplace everytime i am in nassau, i think i will stop that. what you said about the food perishing is true, but i am more outraged by them not even allowing staff to have it. these people slave up and down in their piece a hotel on a daily basis, they could at least give these people that. where i live many restuarants send the unused food to homeless shelters that very night becuase the food is perishable.
I worked in 2 major restaurants in NY. What was cooked was either thrown out, or given to the staff still on duty. But it was very rare to have left over cooked food. Staff were given 1 meal per shift ( I worked normally 2 shifts, Lunch and Dinner, as much as 6 months without a day off - thats 15+ hours a day on average - they only did lunch and dinner). We also were allowed, sometimes, when food was sent back for being incorrectly ordered by a waiter, to eat that food, but to tell you the truth, when the owners were there, they would make sure it was dumped - they claimed we were supposed to be working, not eating that pasta or filet minon .. :-) Course I knew the owners at one of the restaurants and was allowed to even pick out lobster sometimes to take home and cook, but that is another story, besides the fact that at both restaurants, I worked as Bus Boy, Food Runner, waiter, Bartender, and short order cook.
As they closed at between 11pm-4am, every day different depending on how much business there was, and the 2 restaurants differed in locations, there was no way they could get the food into the city and to a shelter to be used at that time of night/morning. (i only imagine as it never came to mind, no homeless shelters were in the area).
bahmaboy 06-18-05, - 01:17 AM well marketplace is different from a regular restuarant becuase it is a buffet so every night they have food left over. the restuarants that i know that send the food to homeless shelters every night close at 10 the latest. so i guess it would be different if the place close at 4am. but like i said i think an employee who is knocking off should be able to get a plate of food to go.
Yeah i know, one of the restaurants was more slack, we even use to drink for free at the end of the night, even with the owners, but the other one had 3 owners, who each owned several restaurants in the city as well as on LI, and they had cameras everywhere and audio system with it, and watched our every move. One thing though, this one was way more professional, everything was done to the book, and it was a well know restaurant for some of the best service and food, in the NY restaurant industry. It pays to be one of the best, sometimes ... :-) ofcourse Cops always ate for free while on duty, and their was aleays Cops posted outside in cars waiting for drunk drivers.
But yeah I see what you are saying about buffet food. Once it is refrigerated at the correct temperature though, it will generally be okay the next day to heat up.

There are two sides for each story:
And in this case it is not Atlantis' fault for not allowing staff to take food home...
Like every restaurant around this city, there is always food that is left over. Before hand, staff were able to take the overage home...however, like a typical Bahamian, the staff became wise to this generosity, instead of taking the overage, staff, (we, the Bahamians), decided to purposefully cook extra amount of food, like steak and lobster, and caviar, shirmp, (forget the chicken and the hotdog, we wanted only the best). Consequently the hotel became hip to these scoundrels, as they notice their bottom line trippled since allowing staff to take home stuff. Ultimately, it was discovered that workers learnt how to steal from the company honestly... sad..So that is why the extra food toutage had to stop.
In regards to donating the food to the poor...the hotels used to do that too! Until..some smartass Bahamian complained that Atlantis giving old food that they were going to throw away to the poor. It was truly bad publicity...so they discontinued. Sad...Now, Atlantis still gives food to the poor, such they have to put in an order, and NEW, freshly cooked food is then prepared and delivered.

Interesting perspective, I have never thought of it like that.

Very true. Any business man will tell you that employee theft is their biggest problem. The average worker has incredibly "stick fingers!" Some bosses with go as far as to say that there is no such thing as an honest worker! Having had some experience in the business world, I would say that is pretty close to the truth. I can count the honest workers I have met on the fingers of one hand - possibly two hands if I don't make the criteria for honesty to strong.
The problem is, most employees that steal don't think they are really stealing. Many are outraged when one suggests such a thing - even when you catch them with a bag full of steaks!
