Sometime I wonder when I hear people crying about the " Poor Man " I try to think of who can be described as this individual and why is he the poorman.......recently I visited New Providence I arrived on one of the ferries about 11:45pm in the night.....I looked around I saw a man I recognized as a Taxi driver.......I told him i needed a cab, he said "ok hold on a sec" about two or three minutes later he returned and with another man and said to me,"he will take car of you" this man then led me with my wife to an old beat up truck with the words "for hire" on the side, I said to him hell no am not going in that......to make matters worse he was dresssed in some old sirty construction clothes... :realmad:

I was happy when I saw someone I knew, who took me to my Hotel.

No wonder the foreigners are hacking at the various ports and at the hospital.

I thought this was just an isolated incident, after we got to the hotel I wanted to go out and shake my leggs for a bit, so I called a popular taxi company for a cab....it took about 4 to 5 minutes before someone answered the phone by picking it up and hanging it back up.... I dialed the number back....the female operator was very rude when I asked for a cab....she snapped "and I just told you no cab available, you can't hear" :sparky: I told her she did not speak to me, apparantly some one from the same hotel must have called for a cab.... after waiting for sometime I called back and a cab came..........I couldnt believe it the driver was shabbly dressed and smelled of alcohol :sparky: in a raggedy mercedes....

I think the Government needs to properly monitor these rude cab companies who are too quick to complain about everything instead of trying to get their act together......

we cry the other day when Fred tried to force the CSME down our throat...the cab drivers in our country are some of the worst public service people along with the bus drivers ......who feel that they are entitle to something for nothing......


By the way I have bought myself a car to use whenever I come to Nassau....so I won't have to put up with the rude taxi men again and the operators(dispatchers)

ma boy you still used their services after that woman was so rude. even though her anger was not directed at you it could have been anybody on the recieving end of her lash out. i would have told her that she was rude and has just lost a loyal customer. when you mentioned the mercedes i know just what company you talking bout. i cant believe those cars still running cuase they was broke down from when i was little, the other day one of them rolled pass me and i was shocked they was still in commision. i think that company has made enough money to buy a new fleet. any way this is the same reason i dont pay these people no mind. they dont want to do their job and when they do do it they slop it up and half mass it and then when someone else comes along who has some initiative and who wanna work. these people want to complain. it makes me luagh everytime.

Lol..... I didn't have a choice but to use their services because that was all I knew of at the time ......but not no more......I solve that problem ....I bought a lil putt putt :driving: which I can use to get around when am visiting again..........

Im so sorry you had to encounter this kind of problem but what I dont get is the following, when you are in the business of dealing with people whether they be americans, canadians or bahamians why is it you would not "do your best" ( may that be dress properly, be on time/open on time, speak properly and be polite, etc ) why not give them such a good service and have then come back !!! ( the more they come back and the more they tell people/spread the word - the more dinero/cheddar for you )

I was force to re-open this thread....after i watch cable 12 news tonight.... seeing the taxi men on the dock kicking up about a fare dispute between themselves and the tour operators......

During the easter holiday 2006 ... was staying at a popular hotel on Carmichael Road again.....i needed a taxi to get to the airport for 6:30am the Wednesday before good friday....so i call both the two major taxi companies ....the operators seemed as if they had gotten up on the wrong side and had an attitude....to no avail, i couldn't get a cab until an hour later... after i kept trying both companies.....finally I was able to get one from the company that uses the old mercedes.....the driver arrived wearing an old cap, mashed up washed out shirt and dragging slippers:sparky:

what made me more angry:sparky: :sparky: his cab kept cutting off on the way to the airport.... finally we arrived to airport this clown had the nerve to stretch his hands out and said ...that will be $25:00.........lmao...

on my return to new providence from the island i visited, then in transit to another ......i had the same experience... i had returned my self drive car back to the company on robinson road.... I called a cab......i couldn't get one untill i decided tocalled and say, can i get a cab to airport...sure enough i immediately got one.

....the lady came to pick me up ....first thing she said .....i don't want you to think am nasty if you smell medication:voodoo: I am treating a tooth infection...... the van was soo flipping hot and smelt like a hospital i had to open the side door before i fainted while she swerved in and out traffic.....on the way i noticed the meter was racing like $1:00 every minute.....by the time i got to the airport the fare was $45:00...i ask her if she was crazy.....it whould have been cheaper for me to catch a hacker...... she told me to make a complaint to Road traffic..... after some arguing she finally gave me back $25:00:) ....

I said all that to say this ....if cab drivers want to make more money they have to upgrade their equipment and offer good service to Bahamians also...not only the tourists....and stop complaining.....:dgi: the bahamian dollar is just as good as the tourist dollar.....

now to prove me right if you live in nassau ...try getting a cab like 6:00am in the morning to the airport....

next time i come to nassau i will publish the numbers of any slack cab driver

well i got charged $10.00 just from one place in georgetown exuma to the next. the taxis in NYC are cheaper. the drive was about 1 1/2 miles.
