Tafadhali 10-22-05, - 03:49 PM Exactly! :D Bush is not home free in the Blame department but our guys are not either. The tax is to high, but we cant do anything about that because I heard that our government has already spent the tax even before it is collected!!!
Our government has allowed the oil companies to raise their profit margin while, at the same time not allowing the local retailers to raise their prices in line with what the companies are getting.
We are paying $4.00+ a gallon. But if you were to paddle a boat over to Miami you could get the same gallon for $2.40 or less.
Here is what I think we all should be doing. As of this posting, Shell has the cheapest gas $3.99. We all should buy from Shell. If in the future ESSO is a few cents cheaper, we should buy from them. In time the Companies we see that everyone is flocking to "X" gas stations and not "Y" gas stations. It would not be long before they put two and two together and realized that it is because of price. We, the consumers don't use our buying muscles as we should. Call the stations and ask them their price! I do!
...supply and demand

CG Texaco Old Trail is $3.94 per gal.,only catch is that it's self serve. ps: I heard that most of the dealers are looking at this option, says that it will save the custumer a few bucks. But the real deal is it cancels out drive-offs.
Ting-um 10-25-05, - 05:11 PM Gasoline is high because of expectations.
The supply hasn't changed. The usage has in fact dropped. People think that there's going to be a shortage of gas because of political events or natural disasters, so they start hording supplies of gas. Like if I told you that a water-borne virus is coming that will destroy all the conch in the ocean -- people will start buying as much good conch now before its too late. Meaning I can jack up the price as much as I want, I won't stop until I notice that people aren't willing to pay 9000 for a pound of conch.

Good to know. Has anyone else seen a better price?
Ting-um 10-28-05, - 02:26 PM Congress is having a hearing with the major oil companies to determine why their profits were so high.
Its not the oil companies fault that people don't understand supply and demand. They, like every one else, benefits when consumers foolishly panic and drive up prices all on their own.

you dont think that exxon having a 10 billion dollar quarter profit is a little excessive? come on now get real!
Ting-um 10-29-05, - 08:42 AM you dont think that exxon having a 10 billion dollar quarter profit is a little excessive? come on now get real!
It is excessive. But the price of commodities, and oil is a commodity, is not determined by Exxon. Price is determined in the market. What people are willing to pay for a commodity. When Exxon lost billions in the 90s nobody thought it was excessive. It was the cost of doing business in an open market. Once you start trading publicly you open yourself up to the risk of going out of business or becoming extremely wealthy. When Google's stock went from 80 to 300 in least than 8 months do you think Congress held somebody responsible for making almost 300 percent in profit?? No. The idea is stupid. Pay attention to the news. All of the people that didn't know a thing about economics scared everybody into believing that oil prices went up because of Katrina -- while the economists said oil prices went up because of the expectations of the public and the way they behave, rushing out to buy gas drives up demand which drives up the price. Basic. Stop driving so damn much. Start commuting. Quit buying SUV's and you'll see oil prices tumble.

 On these Nassau roads.....You gatta be jokin!
Ting-um 10-29-05, - 12:11 PM Bad roads mean bad infrastructure. Its going to cost too much to repair schools, bridges, and other basic infrastructure if the roads are bad. You can tell if the government is worth 10 cents if they fix the roads.
jimbunting 10-29-05, - 03:05 PM Everyone"
I have read this thread from the very first posting thru to this point, and I have yet to see ANYBODY suggest alternate fuel vehicles as a way to get around paying such high prices for gasoline on N.P.
What is an alternative fuel, you ask?
Propane, or Natural Gas, yes the same stuff you use in your Bar B Q, or in your house to heat the water in the hot water tank, or to cook with in the kitchen.
Did you know that cars and light trucks can be built or modified to use those, instead of gasoline? Ever see a lift truck that runs on Propane? No problem being in a warehouse all day long with those, no body is falling over dead from evil fumes, and of course everybody loves a burger cooked on a Propane Bar B Q, right? So why not as fuel in cars in Nassau?
Where can you get a car that is all ready converted to use Propane, or Natural Gas as a motor fuel?
In Canada, where we have hundreds of thousands of them, all built in the Ford, General Motors, or Chrysler plants up here. The Canadian Government has bought thousands of cars vans and pick up trucks that don't burn gasoline, and most of our Limos, Taxis, Police cars and Post Office trucks use either Propane or N.Gas. Obviously, at some time those come onto the used car market, and are sold to private users. it would not be hard to import them to the Bahamas, especially if the Government endorsed them as being "clean air vehicles< with NO IMPORT TAX on them.
What a quick way to start to clean the air in Nassau? You all ready have Propane available down there, and Natural Gas in many homes. Here in Canada, we have fillers mounted on the outside of our homes, and fill the N.G cars at night using the home gas system, and pay for it on the monthly gas bill.
It has to be CHEAPER than $4 US a gallon. and the air will be a hell of a lot cleaner, too.
This is a viable way to clean the air and operate your car with out paying so much for gasoline.
Is that too smart for the Bahamas?
Jim Bunting. Toronto.
how safe is that though, propane gas is not exactly a safe thing even to have around the home .. let alone in vehicles with sparks and bumpy roads and potholes ..? Plus, what kind of power do they have ..? Can I get it in a 4.0?
Teniel 10-29-05, - 03:20 PM What about the cost of processing natural gas, the facilities and crude material to do so? Not sure if we have them at our disposal here in the Bahamas. And no Jim, it is not too smart for the Bahamas, I am sure someone Bahamian or some Bahamian organization (maybe not the relevant authorities), has suggested such a thing. Its nice to see Canada following through on their natural gas initiatives, becasue of course you guys have the funds to pull fuel from alternative sources. That isnt necessarily the case for other less developed countries like the Bahamas. It wil take time (unfortunately), and alot of money.

:uh:
so were in the presence of an arch capalist who touts the free enterprise system?
If I didnt know any better you would think your were trying to scold me. With me your preaching to the choir, I have an economics degree, I understand.
Ting-um 10-29-05, - 10:34 PM So why would you consider Exxon's profits to be excessive??
canewry 10-29-05, - 11:10 PM So why would you consider Exxon's profits to be excessive??
Its too much when they know poor people can't afford it...
Its like finding the cure for Aids and charging $5000 dollars for it...
Its unfair, and evil!
