I guess that you'll save money in the long run though http://www.greasecar.com/product_detail.cfm?prodID=17 Tafadhali 11-01-05, - 09:01 PM That kit is still over $800 (after taxes)! Did I mention that the Canadian Federal Government has installed solar water heaters on the roofs ofmany of our govenment buildings, even in the high Arctic? Wealso are a world leader in solar panel technology, with the newest types being more than 70 percent more effcetive than those made only 10 years ago? Jim B Toronto. Ting-um 11-02-05, - 04:52 PM Requiring daylight seems to worsen the problem. Maybe you need to jot a little more detail because I went and did a little research on the feasibility of a larger scale solar energy program and from what I understand, there are significant problems a few of which I noted but you are saying different. To add, my issue wasn't so much the time of year, moreso global positioning in relation to the sunlight or daylight which doesn't resolve the storage issue. Also, I'm from the Bahamas, not the back bushes of New Guinea -- I've seen solar powered buildings and automobiles. But switching from powering a building to powering a plant facility or an urban block is a different scenario. Things are not as cut and dry as you would like to present them to be. If they were then the rest of the world would be considered malicilously destructive and sinfully stupid is what you would seem to imply to me. And if you'll forgive if I don't believe that the upper crust of human intelligence is quarantined behind Canadian borders. Rory 11-02-05, - 06:12 PM we got our own back bushes right here ... Ting-um 11-02-05, - 06:21 PM Abiskan: Back bushes *OF* New Guinea. Not back bushes *CALLED* New Guinea. Geez. Tafadhali 11-02-05, - 09:28 PM new guinea??? dont they eat people there? Rory 11-03-05, - 01:05 AM dont they eat people there? yeah, like we wear grass skirts and live in palm shacks in the bahamas :p garnelleo 11-03-05, - 09:46 AM yeah, like we wear grass skirts and live in palm shacks in the bahamas :p Like how all americans are cowboys, and how all brits wear top hats and have a curly moustache going "pip pip cheerio", CG 11-08-05, - 02:14 PM I guess this is as good a place to post this as it does deal with oil and gas. I heard on the radio today November 8, 2005, that the fuel surcharge on our electricity bills will be going up this month. At the beginning of the year the charge was 4c. Last month, October it was 8c. This month November it will be 11c. As I understand it the cost of crude oil is down - not much, but down. How come we are paying as if it was going up? de redhead 11-20-05, - 12:32 AM Actually many persons in the Bahamas already operate alternative fuel vehicles. Most of the gas company (Liquid Propane) vehicles that you see are fueled by propane, and several other vehicles also use this fuel. The conversion from gasoline to liquid propane is a very quick and inexpensive process. Additionally blaming the tax system for high gasoline prices is too simplistic, nobody likes to pay taxes, but any responsible citizen must realize that they are necessary for the day to day running of our society. Anyone that can afford to go to the US and purchase a vehicle for 40 grand should not be complaining about paying the duty on that vehicle, period. Paying 50 bucks in property tax on a vehicle is an unworkable suggestion as the revenues collected will fall far short of those needed. We need to pay taxes in order to receive essential services, nothing is free and we as Bahamians need to realize that. Switching from our current tax system to an income tax based system is a process which if undertaken by the Government may take 10 years or more to accomplish. Bahamian society is one where many persons' income is not fully known to the Government, many persons in the service industry receive tips which would almost never be reported. Quite simply, no tax structure is perfect and ours certainly isn't, but I think that it is better than most alternatives. P.S. the next time you are upset about spending almost 5 dollars per gallon to fill your gas guzzling SUV, take the time to consider the person who has to take our excellent public transportation system, who do you think has the greater daily hardships. Rory 11-20-05, - 01:54 AM that $40K is now $80K with duty and shipping .. :what: I got a $30K jeep locally, but i was suckered into the loan thing and Ill never do that again .. work drops, economy gets bad .. no can payee loana . :-))) you are spot on with the tax thing .. will take a long time to get bahamians to outright pay their taxes .. |
