I think most scholars and lay people can agree that the Garden of Eden story is not to be meant for literal interpertation.

But what does it mean?

Was it speaking of Sex?
Was it really speaking about knowledge?
Is it a fairy Tale?
Was it speaking of Self-conceptualization?
Was the story talking about Freedom of choice?

Some critics argue that every detail of the story is a message hidden in figurative and inuendo.

What do you think?

Do a search on the web for "creation stories." There are hundreds of them. They all answered the same questions for the people who believe them. "Who created us?" "How did we, and everything else, get here?" "Why is there so much suffering?" "Is there any hope for us?"

I don't think the Bible tells us what they (Adam & Eve) looked like.

I am sure that "cavemen" had their stories too! Alas, they have been lost to history, but I would think that they would be similar to the ones we do have. The oldest known worship was the "Worship of the Cave Bear." So, to the "cavemen" God might have been a bear!

Well i honestly think that the story of eden and eve and Adam had to do with sex and reproduction!

I do think it has a devine quality to it, and it has to do with "Man" being placed out of the Garden of Eden "his body" and the divine power of the mind body and spirit.

There is a disconnect with humans and the divine spirit, if there wasnt evidence of a very strong disconect, we would not only be inundated with religious doctrine and be placed in subjection to spiritiual leaders and doctrine via the bible Quran etc...but also in subjection to persons and items that provide entertainment and enlightenment in this life, for example people who control capital, strong ownership, and payment for services (services that control our level of comfort and power over our society) by either power symbols or socio-political leverages.

To tie it back into what i want to analyze...
Man had direct connection with the divine "prior to" the apple...
After they both "ate" of the fruit, then the IRE of God came down!!

Question with that is, if we wanted to really villify the weaker sex, or God had a preference, why didnt he stop it half way?...why didnt he get involved when Eve was eating, admonish her before she got to Adam...
You want to know why??
THEY WERE EQUALLY GUILTY.....and the truth is the temptation may not have been the first shot at man being corrupted into indulging of the tree and...it signifies that it took "two" 2, to make the eating of the apple a sin!
It just was that Eve (being woman) "physicaly and biologically" being in greater want for the opposite sex than it is for a man...(this is proven in biological fact as with chromosonal make up, sexual attraction and backed up right there in bold religious text "woman was pulled from the rib of man")
The apple and serpent signify parts of the situation, but takes away from the main aspect of the story..the tree!!
The tree..not the apple or the fruit is of main concern, the apple, the serpent, humans were all figures surrounding the tree "the tree being the knowledge of your body, and another analougos representation for fruit bearing"...sex, reproduction!!!

The serpent beleive it or not to me is a loosely analougus reference to the penis....too easy huh?? :D
Man was made with the power within him of good and evil, subjection and rebellion...he was made in the likeness of God, and so was Satan, Satan moreso in the divine spiritual likeness...
Satan no doubt has and in in a considerable control of a portion of this earth, before man ever was brought forth from the dust!

Man (Adam) and cravings "natural cravings" made Eve succumb to sex...
Made both of them succumb to sex...just that Eve knew what (sex) was for before Adam did, she had the biological and physiological knowledge of knowing what Man's (Adam) makeup was about..even if it was only at a honest attempt to be in one with her male counterpart!
(this is why we werent destroyed or re-made by God)
When we were made with free will...we were made with fallability, god knew this it is why the constant struggle with Satan and God, Good and Evil, Natural Urges vs Restraint and Fasting!!

Man and Woman were ousted from the totalness of their "being" (spiritual and a psycho-intelectual connection as well as limitations on his physical state...DEATH!), there the divide grew larger we became every day more and more a part of Evil and wrongdoing...the wrong doing of wanting to live forever, by reproduction in order for us to live through our offspring, in simple WANTING TO LIVE FOREVER THROUGH OUR CHILDRENS LEGACY....which to me was the equivalent of the small print clause Satan brought to us, either through blatant knowledge of the possibility, or in this case in which i believe more strongly We along with Satan were not sure of the desired outcome of Sex (the tree and apple)!
One thing is certain, Satan and Evil is just as much a part of us as God or Good...more so Evil becasue we were made with a Corrupted earth defiled by Satan who is mainly a spirit and we muct continue to think of him as such, and not make the mistake of quantifying him as a "tangible" thing, he has a supreme capability about him just as God does...SATAN IS THE EVIL SPIRIT WITHIN!
Attempts to keep strong ties with God was adulterated and is being weakened ever since...not a total disconect, but just enough for only some special individuals and Gods chosen to be aware of his true power and majesty!
It is why God continualy chooses smart spiritual and smart earthly people to lead the lost into the light...it is all he has, and he counts on us!
(even though man has placed Barriers of Money and Documentation to show worth. Which makes it hard in this world of darkness to prove your are able to even be considered leadership quality)
With out a doubt (and i know some would agree with this) God and Satan are in a constant battle to the death over the prize that can prove who is more poweful...they are in constant battle over us....

Satan loves us, and God loves us...its just that Satan has only the ability to give you what is allready ours (and really uses us to get back at God most of the time), God has continually shown us that we can have more than this mortal realm...we just have to believe!

yeah CG our precption of what adam and eve looks like has been implanted in us by man (white man). what makes people think that eve was a pretty, slender, long hair, white woman. come to think of it i dont like how whites took it upon themselves to mirror themselves in adam, eve, and jesus. the smarter road would have been to go with a mixed, or middle eastern look. can you beleive just last night i had a friend tell me he was glad to be black but was especially happy that he was light skin (btw he must be delusional cuase he is not that light) n e way he went on to say he couldnt be dark like me cuase he wanted his skin to look correct!!!, i was like what the @%# (BTW- am i not that dark) i think black people like him developed their complex from this adam, eve, and jesus image foolishness.

Interesting question.
Human like creatures have been around for millions of years, Homo habilis - 2.2 to 1.6 million years BC. Homo erectus - 2 to 0.4 million years BC, but when we think of caveman we usually think of Homo sapiens neandertalensis - 200,000 to 30,000 years BC - Better known as Neanderthal man. Yet, the species we come from Homo sapiens sapiens has only been around for about 130,000 years.

At one time in the earths history there were many species of humans wandering around but now only we survive. So, to answer your question all primates, past and present came from a common ancestor. Yet to be found! But what has been found is the tree dwelling, Pierolapithecus catalaunicus. that lived 13 million years ago in Spain and may be the last common ancestor of modern great apes and humans.

So, if there was an Adam-like being he did not look like us! (That much!) :)

Actually, I did not say what Adam looked like because I don't know. What I do know for sure is that our species, Homo sapiens sapiens has only been around for 130,000 years. Races, as we know it, caucasoid, negroid, mongoloid, amer-indian, australoid, etc. began then and they were an adaptation to climate changes as Home sapian migrated around the world.

So, if there was a Adam he would not have been caucasoid, negroid or anything else. But there is little doubt that he would have had a dark skin as man began in Africa and a darker skin protects against the sun.
