Whites promote themselves & their kind..they support themselves & their kind, they extend greater opportunities to themselves & their kind while offering blacks token positions in their establishments so as to appear impartial.

Take a good look around this country, you don't see whites at the gas pumps, as bank tellers, as packing boys or sales reps & its not because they're in the minority. Only select blacks are invited to barbeques or dinner parties on the Eastern Road. I can go on & on. Whether or not we choose to admit it, racism is a silent killer in our communities & we are a country of silent division.

There is no question that whites run this country as they do the government. They continue to use their influence to stagnate the economic success & growth of many blacks & in most instances have used our own people to do so.

However we must give them credit for smarts & shrewdness. If after 25 years of PLP, another 10 of FNM & now another 5 of PLP & we are still on the losing end of the economic pie with the white man still pulling our strings, us blacks must not be too smart eh?

I agree. I have watched Jerry Springer, from time to time. Seems to be a show that celebrates the slobs, of all colours! Not the kind of folks anyone would want at their dinner table!

No color is an issue here, it doesnt matter what color skin you are, a huge majority of Bahamians (all colors) in general do not know how to handle them selves in public!

Watcher, I don't know how much you have experienced in dealing with blacks and whites, etc, but with all due respect for your views and opinion, I really believe that you will one day realize that blacks keep their own colour down far, far more than whites keep blacks down.

I believe that if you are working for an establishment, whether the business is owned by whites, blacks or whatever, if they have an ounce of sense, they would recognise and give positions and promotions to responsible employees whose skills and experience are adequate for the job.

Granted, there may be times when a sibling or close friend may get a position over a more deserving employee, but that kind of thing should not be the norm as it is bad for employee morale. Human nature being what it is causes these kinds of situations, but they should be few and far between if at all.

But why do you think white people hardly take jobs like tellers, gas station attendents, police, etc.? Have you ever thought about it? If your father or other very close relative offered you a job at his very large, prosperous business with good working conditions, etc, would you turn it down and go get some junky job where your life is always in danger?

Why don't more blacks have these kinds of prosperous large businesses where they can offer their own colour jobs? This is a question I think we should consider!

Yes, the whites are smart. They have the money, and they know how to use it. They have a good business head. Why don't we blacks learn these skills from them?

You talk about "silent division". Have you ever had a nice, serious talk with a white Bahamian? Let me say that the way the old PLP played the race card has MESSED UP BLACK AND WHITE RELATIONS IN THIS COUNTRY FOR A LONG TIME! In 1967 when blacks first formed the government, they did absolutely nothing to solve the racial problems -- they just INCREASED them. And I believe that if they/we had seriously tried to reconcile the races, we would have been colour blind long ago. I believe blacks, whites or whatever would have been socialising, marrying one another and living in peace and harmony without an iota of thought of colour of skin, yes, in the Bahamas, colour of skin would have been practically extirpated from our psyche.

I recall on my last job before retirement, at one point there were more blacks than whites. It was like whites and blacks were not speaking to one another or socialising with one another. But after a few months someone broke the ice. A black employee asserted himself and started a conversation with one of the whites in the elevator while they were alone. Turned out it was such a good and pleasant talk, he told all the black employees about it and from that day on I mean the relationship between blacks and whites was excellent. The great "fear" or whatever barrier there was had been broken -- it was finally realised that the two races ( at least on that particular job) had no hatred or bad feelings for each other! It was all only in our minds!!!

It is small minded people like NassauRocks, with their racist views that will forever keep the Bahamas in limbo between a first, and third world country.

Its not the Bahamian people that dont want Brent Symonette. Its the FNM party. Party politics controls basically all of what happens in this country. Until the mind set of the party power brokers cahnges nothing much else will. Brent would be as good a prime Minister as any simply because he has the basic ideology of a leader. The colour thing just works for the party leaders to make it so that thye can manipulate the party and put who thye want in charge. i dont think they want another Hubert Ingraham who appeared to not need them to make decisions.

The Bahamas, a self proclaimed progressive country, should be the first to leave the racist culture behind. A pendulum swings in two directions, but it stops at the extremes. In a forward thinking culture, its those extremists that try to stop progress by making radical claims intended to influence the public. Perhaps those like NassauRocks, who claim that they love human misery and can't keep a job (it's in the public profile) should be taken with a grain of salt.

Then, when the PLP came back, I hoped that change would be forthcoming. Now, after reading that a multimillion dollar ferry isn't allowed to run to Nassau, a multi-billion dollar resort developer is being ignored in Freeport, and the Bahamas hasn't filed for relief from the EU in years, I'm thinking that a wolf in sheeps clothing is still a wolf. It doesn't matter who we elect, there won't be any change unless THE PUBLIC TELL THE GOV'T THAT RACE NO LONGER MATTERS TO THEM.

He was destroying the country as it was getting started. Why dont you people take into consideration that there are too many issues going on in our small country for the P.M. to handle them all at once. The only thing the P.M. has done wrong was to appoint certain people to his cabinet. Some of his cabinet members don't deserve their jobs. If Mr. Christie looks bad it't because his cabinet make him look bad. This is no reason to replace him. He should just replace members of his cabinet. No matter what you people say, when the elections rolls around the PLP will be voted in again.

There are alot of people complaining about the present government. But there are a whole lot more who will vote them back in again. If the FNM make brent symonette their leader, they would have just sealed their dooms. They would have lost before they even got started on their campaigning. Even if it seemed like brent was going to win and had the majority of supporters in his favor, there would be more who is against him. And besides, the P.M. is decided by which party wins the majority. And who the hell is going to vote in another FNM anyway? My uncle was an M.P. of south Eleuthera (Mr. Anthony Miller) and I sure as hell didn't and wouldn't vote for him neither. He wasn't the right man for the job. And neither is most of those numbscull FNM's. Now I will give respect to where respect is deserved. That symonette guy is perhaps the best man to lead the FNM. But he's fighting an uphill battle with the rest of those simpletons.
