no, that would be called prejudice.. Germans and Jewish People are the same, caucasion, well actually there are mixed races amongst the Germans now too.

In your opinion, is it wrong to have a ceromony remembering the holocaust victims?

Noone should forget their history, just dont take it out on people that had nothing to do with it, that goes for everyone ..

I support Brent Symonette for Prime Minister. He is a Bahamian, businessman and for the Bahamian people.

lol..shirley's post had me cracking up from the very beginning. unless i get a car (motorcycle really, weaving through traffic) when election time comes around so i can go out to the various campaign speeches i'll be sitting out this election. I'm starting to see a self fulfilling prophecy taking place here.

There has been much debate recently about Brent Symonette the member of parliament for Montagu area and his bid for leadership of the opposition Free National Movement (FNM). The debate has not been geared towards his leadership skills which has been proven to be very successful in recent elections but the it has been geared towards the fact the Mr Symonette is a “white Bahamian” and if it is right for a “white Bahamian” to lead a black nation such as the Bahamas.

The questions are:
- Should 'Race' play a role in leadership?
- Would you elect Brent Symonette as Prime Minister?
- Do you think that the PLP Government fear the possibility of Brent Symonette becoming leader of the FNM party?

Please post your thoughts on this issue.

we deserve a better Bahamas, give Brent a chance!

Back in the day months before the General Elections the OLP PLP had TV 13 played the series ROOTS and ROOTS THE NEXT GENERATION with Chicken George and Kunta Kentae and how they were treated by the white slave owners, just for us to grow a dislike for the white people (Those former UBP members who supported the FNM) and not vote for thee FNM.

A few days after the rally on the 11 May 05, the PLP chairman made inferences towards Mr. Symonette's UBP ancestry saying that his true colours are now coming out. If this was done after a rally in which it is believed that he (Brent) had said something that the PLP chairman THOUGHT was offensive, imagine if Brent offers himself for leader of the FNM. They will have a field day.

To eventually become the PM you must first be elected the leader of your party and win the General Elections.

Brent Symonette is a very nice, caring and very helpful individual, however, we as a people is not ready to through our support behind a BAHAMIAN who happens to be white.

Days after the rally on the 11 May 05, the PLP chairman made inferences towards Mr. Symonette's UBP ancestry saying that his true colours are now coming out. Yes to eventually become the PM you must first be elected the leader of your party and win the General Elections.

...and your point is?

well if the people arent ready Im sure theyre tired of all this scandal and conflicts of interest and God knows what else.

Its like being angry and you dont know why youre angry, and the the people you should be angry at are the ones feeding you these lies and misconceptions.

To be quite honest Brent Symonette never did anything to me or you, but this present administration has done plenty, showing their true colours! If anything, Mr. Symonette probably had it the hardest (not because of money) but because of the majority cloud of preconceived racist presumptions that black people have against white in this country.

He just had a money cushion head start and pragmatic thinking- because he had no choice.

If Mr. Symonette's PR machine knows what theyre doing they will get through this. The truth is no lie and sadly poor hapless Bahamians are falling victim to untruths and rascist "THOUGHTS"

Give Brent a chance!

My point is let him offer himself and be elected the leader of the FNM and then lets do our best to cause the FNM to win the general-election and then he can become the PM. One step at a time. we need to stop putting the cart before the horse.

I am a supporter of Brent but we can't thrust upon him what he can not have if he is not the leader of a party.

Well said...
This reminds me of a statement that was said to me during the last election:
I proposed the question, "Can you imagine the Bahamas with Tommy T as primeminister?" The response was, "he would have to win his seat first!" History now shows that my collegue was right....I guess the point is the same again here!

ya see canewry most bahamians forget about a persons jamiacan or haitian heritage once they do something notable. if ping was a regular joe, they would be like carry ur haitian lookin self.

if you think brent is the right man for the job then you should have no problem with him leading this country, FORGET his color, he is BAHAMIAN. to excude him in this we are excluding him and every other white bahamian like rory from all aspects of our society. I THOUGHT ALL A WE IS ONE FAMILY?

Brent has 2 strikes against him, 1 like i said in my post yesterday the bahamas is not politicaly mature as yet, Mr Rigby took what my Symonette said and put a spin on it and created a whole racist rukus for the days following the report card. 2: Bahamians only vote for Liars opps i mean lawyers. if you look at all who ever offer themself to lead any party. They are knock down
