There has been much debate recently about Brent Symonette the member of parliament for Montagu area and his bid for leadership of the opposition Free National Movement (FNM). The debate has not been geared towards his leadership skills which has been proven to be very successful in recent elections but the it has been geared towards the fact the Mr Symonette is a “white Bahamian” and if it is right for a “white Bahamian” to lead a black nation such as the Bahamas.

The questions are:
- Should 'Race' play a role in leadership?
- Would you elect Brent Symonette as Prime Minister?
- Do you think that the PLP Government fear the possibility of Brent Symonette becoming leader of the FNM party?

Please post your thoughts on this issue.

Does it really matter...

We have claimed that we have moved and grown from the onset of Slavery and racism. Everyone knows that this will forver be scared in the minds of every younger generation that will henceforth come. However, we cannot chastise someone that is qualified to run a nation and better it for every Bahamain.

Look how the world is beginning to form now, "Whites are gonna communicate with Whites" not being prejudice, but "Whites" are in total control of the world today.

But we must all come to the realization that in order for everything to achieve there must be a failure. Ofcourse he cannot make the Bahamas a communisyt country, if he does nothing for a term then he will be voted out like Prime Minister Cristy who has been doing nothing.

Simple as that.

I think we should focus on the potential quality of his leadership as oppose to his skin colour. A man's brain is what makes him functional not his colour. I suppose this is all moot because as of this writing Brent for some reason or another has decided not to run for the leadership of his party. Too bad I would have given him consideration for the leadership position despite his ethnic and political heritage.

Will the U.S. vote in a black president? NO.
Will the U.K. vote in a black priminister? NO.
How about Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, etc. etc....
Do you think that in all of these countries, there aren't any qualified black people to become leaders. For example, the U.S. Before George W. Bush was selected to be head of the G.O.P. ( Republican Party) the main person in consideration was Colen Powell, a black man. Why didn't the republicans promote Mr. Powell to be head of the republican party? Simple! He wouldn't even had won the primaries. Not to mention the Electoral or the Popular Votes!

The problem I am having right now is that I think there are a few people out there who would vote in a white man just because he's white. A few others would vote in a white man just to set a good example to the rest of the world. And others who vote in this white man would have done so because they were sold the idea that this guy would be the best thing to have ever happened to the Bahamas. All politicians are the same. They make their opponents look like satan and tell everyone what good a job they will do if elected. Lots of politicians look good on paper and have excellent records. But when they get into a higher office they start showing their flaws and weaknesses. Didn't Jamaica vote in a white Priminister. What happen there? Was it a success? NO! He was destroying the country as it was getting started. Why dont you people take into consideration that there are too many issues going on in our small country for the P.M. to handle them all at once. The only thing the P.M. has done wrong was to appoint certain people to his cabinet. Some of his cabinet members don't deserve their jobs. If Mr. Christie looks bad it't because his cabinet make him look bad. This is no reason to replace him. He should just replace members of his cabinet. No matter what you people say, when the elections rolls around the PLP will be voted in again.

There are alot of people complaining about the present government. But there are a whole lot more who will vote them back in again. If the FNM make brent symonette their leader, they would have just sealed their dooms. They would have lost before they even got started on their campaigning. Even if it seemed like brent was going to win and had the majority of supporters in his favor, there would be more who is against him. And besides, the P.M. is decided by which party wins the majority. And who the hell is going to vote in another FNM anyway? My uncle was an M.P. of south Eleuthera (Mr. Anthony Miller) and I sure as hell didn't and wouldn't vote for him neither. He wasn't the right man for the job. And neither is most of those numbscull FNM's. Now I will give respect to where respect is deserved. That symonette guy is perhaps the best man to lead the FNM. But he's fighting an uphill battle with the rest of those simpletons.

Oh yeah... I almost forgot. Wasn't one of the many reasons the FNM got voted out is because they looked like they were not looking out for their fellow black people? How would it look to the Bahamian people if the leader of the FNM was to be a white man? IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE PLP WAS RIGHT ABOUT THOSE UNCLE TOMS, thats how it will look.:hot:
LET ME SUMMARIZE THIS UP FOR YA! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER WHITE P.M. YOU GUYS CAN SAY WHAT YA LIKE TO ME AND IT WONT CHANGE A THING. THIS IS A BLACK NATION LEAD BY A BLACK MAN AND A BLACK GOVERNMENT. I will never vote for a party that has a white leader.

I will not vote FNM.
And if the PLP was to ever get a white leader, I wouldn't vote for them again neither. Not Ever!:hot: :hot: :hot:

It is small minded people like NassauRocks, with their racist views that will forever keep the Bahamas in limbo between a first, and third world country.

The reason I wouldn't suggest that anyone vote for a white lead party is as stated.

1. In south florida where I live, there are alot of hispanic voters.
They voted in hispanic politicians. About 80% of the hispanic
population aren't american born, they were nationalized.
These hispanic candidates at the time went into black neigh-
borhoods and promised the black voters that they will serve
them equaly as they serve the hispanic voters. Any who has
been to south florida lately can tell you that, that was a lie!
I don't have to get into basics, just use your imagination.

2. Jeb Bush, the governor of Florida (also the brother of the Pres-
ident of the United States) promised the black voters that he
will make sure African Americans get their fair share of opert-
unity to get good jobs and excepted into college if they qual-
ify. Then he later elimenated the AFFIRMATIVE ACTION plan
set forth by the previous U.S. governments. For those of you
who aren't familliar with the affirmative action plan it goes like
this. ( All employers, private and government shall employ a
20% minimum percentage of minorities. And all higher educat-
ion the same.) Jeb Bush claimed that this law violated the con-
stitution of America and made it unlawful in the state of Florida.

I just wanted to point out a few things that black people should lookout for when it comes to voting in other races. We have a terrible history of being taken advantage of. And whenever we lose something that we've faught so hard for in the past, its always hard to get it back, if we get it back at all. Afro-Americans have faught for the equal rights to acheive certain jobs and exceptance into certain schools. Now that the affirmative action has been abolished theres nothing they can say if an employer or school turns them away. Some employers who used to have a few black employees don't have any anymore. When Sir Lynden helped us gain our Independence, why was this such a liberating thing for our parents? because they knew what it was to be under white rule. They didn't want to be lead by another white man. Now three Prime Ministers later theres foolish talk about voting in a white man. To you people who are so eager to have a white P.M. it wouldn't shock me a bit if it turns out that you guys are white. In every country in the world there are history making leaders and others who have gone unnoticed. Governments doesn't get better everytime theres a new leader.
Sometimes you gamble and chose someone who don't measure up to the last leader. Whos to say that this symonette guy would be better than P.M. Christie. He might be a good M.P. but so what? Theres a lot of good M.P.'s and for sure that doesn't mean they will make good P.M.'s. Like I said before, Mr. Christie looks bad because his cabinet makes him look bad. He appointed people to handle divisions of the government. If things are out of controll in one of those divisions, it would seem like the P.M. isn't doing his job. His cabinet is his counterparts. He tells them what to do and they are supposed to be able to do it not just at the best of their abilities, but in an acurate, correct, legal, proffecional and respectful way. If it isn't done this way it looks bad on his cabinet and falls back on him. If there are any issues facing the citizens of the Bahamas, the first thing the citizens are to do is find out who is the minister of whatever ministry their fault is with. Don't immediately say it is the P.M.'s fault. I assure you that I do know what I am talking about. I might spend most of my time in Florida but I listen to radio 810 A.M. everyday where I catch the D. Miller show at 11:00am and mid-day reports. I also read the Nassau Guardian over the Internet, so I stay intouch with my peeps!

I live in the U.S. because I go to school here. I will be back!
And when I return I think I will be looking for a white security officer or businessman in the field of security. In other words, YOU! Not because I want a confrontation, no. It is because I just have to meet you face to face. You advert my curiosity. We might have our difference in opinions but I don't hate you. I still think you are an interesting person.:D

Until then lets keep our different point of views. Lets keep arguing. :raw:
