THE CIRCUS

The political heat is on. The rhetoric is becoming sharp. It is beginning to feel a lot like election fever. This time the roles have been reverse. This time around the PLP has to give an account of their stewardship. The PLP has been weighed in the balance and has been found wanting. The most fervent of PLP must find it hard to pull out any concrete accomplishment that the PLP has done over the pass year of governing.

There is a wide spread disappointment in prime minister Perry Christie and his inept band of all talk do nothing crew. The only people who are happy are the old cadre of PLPS. The old PLPS has pulled the wool over the electorate eyes in the last election. That magic that they weave over the Bahamian voters makes Houdini look like boys scout learning card tricks. If Houdini were alive today he would no doubt be begging Perry (all talk) Christie to reveal to him the source of such magic.

The ironic thing about magic is that it is just that, magic. It gives the impression of action but is only smoke and mirrors. I am sorry to say this but we (the Bahamian people) have been deceived, hoodwink, lied to, bamboozle the list goes on and on. The PLP government has failed miserably in just about every aspect of governance. The only people who were " help" excluding the old guards are the Canadians (remember the million dollar bleachers). More on this later.

Where are the helicopters to fight crime? Where is the national health care package to help the poor and disadvantaged? Talk, talk and more talk. Perry Christie reminds me of the many Bahamian male who boast about their manhood when it comes to the ladies and fizzle when it comes time to perform. It is blatantly clear that Perry Gladstone Christie is nothing but talk.

Perry is not the right man for the job. He is in fact the right marionette for the puppet masters. Any other week it can be the Christian council, Bishop Neil Ellis, the business bunch and the old corrupt PLP`S (we all know who they are) pulling the strings. No wonder the country seems to be drifting aimlessly. Whatever you say about former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, you have to admit that he was no body's puppet. He was a man of action. The operative word is man. Now that we have described whom Mr. Christie and the PLP are. Here's the proof.

The first big lie is that the FNM government has mismanaged the economy. Even the prime minister was force to admit that the FNM government managed the Bahamian economy prudently. During the prime minister wartime speech he admitted that due to the former administration prudent management the economy of the Bahamas is resilient (ouch).
The next lie was that the financial laws (financial transaction act and the international business company act) that were enacted by the Hubert Ingra ham government were detrimental to the Bahamian economy and they (PLP) were going to change these laws if elected.

If the laws were so detrimental to the Bahamian economy as the PLP claim (while in opposition) and needed to be change, why weren't they visited immediately after the PLP regain power? It is over a year since they wrest political power from the FNM. Why is there not a changing of these so call detrimental laws? If these laws were so cancerous why not move the cancer. It is indeed cruel to allow the country to suffer so.

The ironic thing about all of this is that the minister of financial services Allyson "all for me baby " Gibson is claiming that the PLP has done better in terms of foreign capital than the FNM. Mind you they are claiming success under the auspices of the prevailing "bad law"

. The truth of the matter is that if it were not for September 11th, the straw market fire and hurricane Michelle the FNM was looking at a balance budget! If the PLP was honest with the Bahamian people they would have explain to them that pressure was brought to bear on the Bahamas by very powerful entities. The laws were enacted to avoid the Bahamas from being blacklisted. They knew this. These guys are masters of the double talk. When you are dealing with Christie and co you have to watch the price of the fish not the noise in the market.

Remember the talk about the FNM selling out to foreigners. If the FNM was selling out the country the PLP must be given it away. The minister of financial services is boasting of some 398 million dollars worth of potential foreign investment that the PLP negotiated since coming to power. Different strokes for different folks. Under the FNM courting foreign investors was tantamount to treason, but for the PLP it just make good sense. Things that make you go umm.

FRED FOREIGHN POLICY?

Foreign affairs seem foreign to the PLP. The all knowing minister of foreign affairs only seem to know how to create tension between our greatest ally (the united states). Can someone please tell Fred Mitchell and the PLP they should not bite the hands that feed them.

The Christie government needs to learn the concept of "best interest of the country" certainly if the PLP knew this concept they would not have done the ridiculous things they did as a government.

The PLP cant seem to shake their long establish policy of pettiness and vindictiveness. In order to show the great United States that the PLP had arrived, almost the entire cabinet visited Cuba. They took pictures and shook hands with Castro. Just for good measure the Prime Minister, Perry Gladstone Christie drop in on the dictator.

If I am not mistaken it was Castro who had sunk one of our defense force vessel and in the process killed four of our finest young men. It turns out that Castro just recently shown that he still don't have the penchant for descent, he just give a group of dissenters long prison terms. Why didn't Fred Mitchell and company fly there to tell their good friend (communist dictator) to please set the dissenters free? The PLP must be feeling a bit nauseous right about now.
The moral of the story is to not cut of your hand to spite your face and of cause not to sleep in the bed of dictators. I hope this is a lesson well learnt.

The United States is certainly not the arbiter of moral authority. The truth of the matter is that the United States mean more to the Bahamian economy and to the Bahamian people than Castro or Cuba at this time.
It is in our best interest to support the United States in its diplomatic endeavors. Whatever Fred Mitchell dislikes are simply does not matter on this level. What is more important than anyone or anything is the well being both financially and otherwise of the Bahamian people. Historically we always had the help of our super power neighbor. The worth of the American tourist to the Bahamas cannot be overstated. Tourism as it stands now and for many more years to come will be our lifeblood.

BAHAMAS AGRICULTURE AND INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION.

The Bahamas agriculture and industrial corporation fiasco is a situation that should never have sunk to the level it did. The reason why the situation deteriated to such a degree is because we have a prime minister that waits upon instruction from committees, when he should be acting.

The B.A.I.C mess is simply a comedy of errors. Firstly what we have is a chairman firing political enemies (victimization) when he had no power to do so. Secondly we had the minister of trade and industry (Leslie miller) accusing the chairman of downright abuse of public funds. Thirdly the chairman (Sidney Stubbs) is accusing some in his party of conspiring to decapitate him in a manner of speaking. A few months later the Bahamas saw the minister and the chairman clothed in all smiles. The word was that these two men had somehow kiss and made up. All was well at the Bahamas agriculture and Industrial Corporation once again.

While it is good that these two men made up, which hopefully will inure to the benefit of the corporation and country. There is still the situation of accounting of public funds. There must be an accounting to the Bahamian people whether the chairman abuse the taxpayers hard earn monies. The Bahamian people await the final word. Speak up Prime Minister, cat got your tongue!

The JUNKANOO JUNK

While the Bahamas Agriculture and Industrial Corporation fiasco is enough to make a person vomit, the junkanoo affair should outright make you sick.

I do believe that minister Neville wisdom should resign. While it can be argued that minister wisdom only meant well. The fact of the matter is that taxpayer's money went south, sorry I mean up north without anything to show.

If Minister Wisdom had went through the correct legislative process and subsequently loss over a million dollars it could be argued that he tried but fail. The fact of the matter is that minister wisdom took it upon himself to gamble over a million dollars of our money.

I do believe that minister wisdom being a businessman would not have undertook such an investment. Therefore, why allow the Bahamian people money to go to waste?

The entire Cabinet, including the Prime Minister ought to apologize to the Bahamian people.

The most blatant and ridiculous situation surrounding the junkanoo junk was the resolution to thank the good minister for losing a million dollars! Whom the gods which to destroy they first make mad.

Anniversary?

The PLP will be celebrating their victory at the polls this week. They will be listing their accomplishment for the pass year. The prime minister must be going over the entire year trying to pull up some accomplishment of his government.

I simply don't envy him because he has a very hard task of convincing even the most die-hard supporter that this year was a good one.

All around the length and breadth of the Bahamas there is a feeling of let down and disappointment. They had voted for a prime minister they got a preacher.

They had voted for help all they got was heaves. They expected hope all they got was "hike" prices. The first hike was B.E.C, then the gas stations and now Batelco. So much for people first.

The Bahamian people certainly deserves more than what the Prime Minister and company has done or not done is more apt. We voted for a new government and all we got was a circus equaling that of Barnum's and Baileys.
