No offense, but your uncle was the enemy and America does not only have Caucasians enlisted...
True, war brings out the worst in people, racism being but one of them, By the way he was Canadian.

The Japanese couldn't possibly be logically talking about race, were they were referring to Americans on the whole.
There were talking about White people, as a whole.

Also, they held themselves superior to the Chinese as well. China is their closest cousin, yet they distinguished that civilization (not race – by your definition) as inferior...
True, the civilization came in question but it was also the people - the Chinese.

It is no worst than the Bahamas saying it is the greatest little nation in the world... Do you think the Haitians think we are racist?
I hope not but I have heard some Bahamains suggest that we might be.

The Japanese did not go the extra mile and oppress the Chinese.
You need to study Japan's invasion of China. (Read casualobservers post.)

(Europeans claimed that Africans themselves had slaves.
African did have slaves - not on the style, or cruelty, of the Whites but they did and still do. According to the UN slavery is alive and well in Africa. One of the biggest forms is forcing women into prostitution (these women are owned!) Another for is kidnaping young boys to fight in the Armies.

This was their propaganda to justify their evil work.
Actually, at the time the Whites did not see what they were doing as evil. Why should they have justified it?

The term "servant" was deliberately replaced with "slave".
I'll agree the two terms got confused but a servant who is held against his will is still a slave.

A family dept was often paid off with labor. This was also practiced in China.)
That is called Indentured Servitude. It was popular all over the world.

If China is a separate race from Japan, then The Bahamas is a separate race from America.
It is the people within the country that differ.

We generally see all Americans in a certain light. As a group of people, they are different from us. I dare say that we do not have a lot of the problems that they have. Why adopt some of them?
Why indeed? but we do!

By the way, after several years of learning of that civilization (Japan) from an intimate perspective, I have concluded and verified that they are not racist.
Knowing a few people from that country I would say that the are now, not a racist as they once were.

They see things very different from the west.
Yes, indeed they do.

They were however, very particular with preserving blood lines. Some clans could not interbreed with others. It was mainly a "class" thing. (The same is still so in India.) Several decades ago, it was unthinkable to assimilate a foreigner.
You call that a class thing. Perhaps you are right but take India. An "untouchable" (Harijan) often has a darker skin than a Brahman (highest caste). Maybe sometimes when we speak of race, we really mean "class." Unfortunately, sometimes one has to be of a particular color to be in a particular class. I am glad to see that is not as much a "thing" these days.

It was Americans who insisted that Tiger not call himself Asian...
Are you talking about Tiger Woods? I thought he called himself Black?

Do you think his family in Asia saw him as anything else?
Can't say.

America is a very sick place from many perspectives. So is Europe.
Most places are sick in many perspectives.

One good thing about living in The Bahamas is that if you want to, you can mix and mingle with people from all over the world.
True!

A great way to go out and see for yourself who really are the ones propagating this nonsense we call "racial tension". Be careful of the ones that look like a certain person missing in Aruba though... (You might get arrested – accused of a felony)
Does the question of guilt come into it at all? (I also noticed a White guy was arrested too.)

That's a stereotype and I am wrong for writing it, but these are the kinds of messages they bombard us with all the time. Cable mainly has US channels... (One or two with strong European influences) I found that I have programmed myself to automatically filter out the nonsense that shows on cable sometimes.
Tell me what channels you are speaking about!

Hello all,

Rory:

No, all Europeans did not have “servants”. Many of them had “slaves”... Some of them, like the Polish, were themselves mistreated, but nothing compares to the vile treatment Africans got. They were treated worst than animals. Even the peasants that staggered the streets could do as they wish with no consequence. (Watch the unedited version of “La Amistad”. It is actually a graphically accurate documentary.)

About Tiger, YES, Americans said that Tiger should not call himself Asian. It was all over the news at that time. Strangely, it appeared that these Americans were primarily so called Blacks. They babbled on something about Tiger denying his roots or something... (Identity crisis. These are the misguided ones.)

Judging a whole society on tourists? YES... Are you implying that American tourists are not American? Generally, tourists that come here represent a good cross section of their country. Especially a country where we get most of them from. Not only the rich and the vain come here. The ones who took years to save also come. ( I also travel a lot, because of my interests as well as my job.) As for Europe, let the revealed history about them speak for itself.

About mixing... What planet are you on? Come out after 10:45 p. m. and just guess where you can find tourists. Go to one of the few beaches we have accessible to us and guess where you can find them. (Maybe you are a shy guy. Good for you...) I'm not advocating anything but friendly chat... (Just be careful of certain ones who may land you in jail.)

CG:

Oh, I actually have a Chinese DVD that incorporated events of a war between China and Japan (from the Chinese perspective). Also, China's government did some bad things too, even to its own people, but this is another story. The rivalry between those two countries has not taken away the dignity of either one. One of the few places Chinese people actually feel inferior (according to the work of Jackie Chan and other sources) is... you guest it... America!

ALL:

Oh by the way, povity and hunger are driving many parents in Africa to use their own kids for prostitution and labour, just to get by. This is a sad but vile evil (but many of us would probably resort to the same things if made hungry enough!) On channel 50 recently, I watched European reporters jump at the operturnity to call it “Slavery in Africa”. Just more of their propaganda to justify their evil doings... If prostitution were a form of slavery then America is the largest slave trader today! They have Mexican slaves, Chinese slaves, Russian slaves, Thai slaves, and a host of others...

True, another story indeed. Have you ever been to China or Japan? Japan is expensive, but worth the trip. China is more reasonable in price but also worth a trip - one could spend a lifetime trying to see everything there.

The rivalry between those two countries has not taken away the dignity of either one.
They can kill each other, oppress each other but still not take away the dignity?

One of the few places Chinese people actually feel inferior (according to the work of Jackie Chan and other sources) is... you guest it... America!
Feeling inferior and being inferior are two different things. America can feel very intimidating, even for some White folks. Many people, of many different races have done well there. Jackie Chan was a big star in Hong Kong but working in the US really put him on the map.

Oh by the way, povity and hunger are driving many parents in Africa to use their own kids for prostitution and labour, just to get by. This is a sad but vile evil (but many of us would probably resort to the same things if made hungry enough!)
No matter how the person ends up as a slave, he is still a slave - even if his folks sold him.

On channel 50 recently, I watched European reporters jump at the operturnity to call it "Slavery in Africa". Just more of their propaganda to justify their evil doings...
Or, just a report to show what is going on.

If prostitution were a form of slavery then America is the largest slave trader today! They have Mexican slaves, Chinese slaves, Russian slaves, Thai slaves, and a host of others...
Not all prostitution is slavery but when a girl is bought, kept against her will, and not paid for her "work" it is slavery. I am sure that happens in many parts of the world but Africa and parts of the Far East, lead the world in this.

Here is a question for you. Do you think religion has anything to do with racism?

True. There are more people "in chains" than there ever was.

sorry to say marco, but slavery is very widespread in Africa...and its not only parents 'selling' their girls...it most commonly comes in the form of militiamen abducting young boys, and selling them to army officials - particularly in Sudan and some countries in East Africa.
