eternalweightofglory 08-11-05, - 02:27 PM I am interested in the realtions between Hatians and Bahamians especially regarding healthcare. Does everyone feel that they are getting equality in this area or are there any problems about which I should be enlightened?
canewry 08-12-05, - 08:06 AM Man, read some of the old post...
We killed this topic....
there is enough comments from this board to write a book....
But dammit, health care need to be paid for if you are not Bahamian!

I agree! But as it stands now it is possible for a person to come to Nassau, illegally, walk to the PMH (They don't even have to do that they can call an Ambulance!) Get treated for all their illnesses, then take the next boat home and not pay a penny!! I say it is possible. I don't know if it has been done yet.
We already have a "sign up" that says Come to Nassau - plenty of jobs - little chance of getting caught! Next there will be another one, Free Health Care! :voodoo:

Maybe more if they think you are a tourist with health insurance! :)
Let me tell you a story. Three men set out to sea, each in their own boat. :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: As bad luck would have, it all three of the boats sprang a leak. The first guy put his foot over the hole and hoped it would go way - if he did not look at it too often. The second guy figured out that if he bailed out the boat, once in while, he could just about stay afloat. The third guy plugged the hole! Only the third guy made it home! :sailing:
It seems to me that we are like the guys in the first and second boats. For years we have ignored the illegal immigration problem. We hoped it would just go away. Things have changed a bit. We are now bailing out the boat. Once in a while we round up illegals and send them back, but like the leak in the boat, as soon as they are gone more come in to take their place.
The only solution is to be like the guy in the third boat. We need to plug the holes. What are the "holes?" First and foremost, it is jobs. Illegals come here because they can get jobs. Bahamians violate the law by hiring them. Plug that hole! Make the fines for hiring an illegal worker so high that it is just not worth the risk - $5,000 for the first offence. Quadruple it for the second offence, and so on up the forth offence. I can assure you that there would be no forth offence but if there were the fine would be the confiscation of the property where the illegal was working, i.e. if he was weeding your garden, you would lose your house. If he was working in your office, you would lose your business.
Tough measures? Yes they are, but illegals are draining our resources, schools, hospitals, etc. They are costing us millions a year. We can wait for the boat to sink or we can plug the holes. Ignoring it has not worked and we can't bail fast enough.
To balance this we would have to take measures where legal workers could be brought in. We need them for many things but they must be regulated or they will swamp the boat and none of us will benefit. :sailing:
He he he ... what about the 4th boat, the guy that jumped off and swam for it!! :shaky:

Yes, years ago a lot of folks "jumped ship." Most were White but there were Black folks in the Exodus as well. But, for the sake of this argument, we can put them aside. There ain't here, we are. :sailing: The boat is in our hands!

if we only could get rid of those illegals it would all be alright, will it?

Depends what you mean by all right.
If we could solve the immigration problem, things would be "all right" there. It would ease the strain on our services. But notice that I did say that we need foreign workers, maybe lots of them. However, things should be done with as much order as possible. Perhaps we could set up something like "the contract" during WWII.

"alright" means what ever you wish it to mean its a personal alright, asking the reader to look inside his or her self and find their source of truth. i have notice that this issue is still running amuck not just in the bahamas but in countries all over the world, but what is missing is the lack of a clear historical understanding of why these events have come about, i do believe. its so easy to blame ones short comings on another, instead of being proactive getting out and solving the problems one face. may be the health department should be forced to give every one critical thinking vaccination shots, along with a monthly booster shot against stupidity i think that would help us out allot,

I agree we should get out and solve our problems but we are not and the illegals are not. They are running away from theirs and we are ignoring ours.
