The autopsy on the recent Free National Movement’s (FNM’s) convention has been completed from the perspective of these quarters. Firstly, It was a success in terms of rallying FNM supporters in one big happy place.
The mood of the crowd was subtly electrifying, magnetic, energetic, and ready. The only problem though, still lingers on the streets and in private places. That is the question of leader. Many have declared that they will not support the FNM under the existing leadership!
It is a sentiment that is prevalent in the communities of Nassau, and perhaps throughout the Family Islands of The Bahamas. It has nothing to do with who loves the FNM and who doesn’t, because lots of FNMs rebelled against the party in the last election, despite their love.
It is a matter that must be solved with the greatest of urgency on the part of the custodians of the future of the Free National Movement. We cannot go into a general election with Tommy Turnquest as chief, and with an inept group of party officers- if we want to be viable! There will be no free lunch, and the FNM will not win by default, so get those notions out of sight and mind.
The next convention God’s willing, is separation time. The FNM will be confronted with the question of: To win or to lose? Be careful who you commit your support to next time, because your Xs at that caucus could seal a victory for the PLP again- for example.
We are compelled to change the headship of the FNM next time, and I invite all hopefuls to declare themselves now. I am interested in the chairmanship, and have started my campaign in that direction.
