View Full Version : Miss (Lesbian) Teen Bahamas
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:36 PM you shouldnt use the word 'fag' - its discriminatory and distasteful...not to mention derogatory.
boy..does it even matter that the punch is not online??? all the scoops on bahamasissues.com -thanks vic!
on the other hand, i dont know the whole story, but if she really is being discriminated against because of her sexual orientation, this is wrong - but to be expected (in the bahamas especially). however, what struck me is the sheer strength of a 17 year old bahamian girl to come out and make such a statement! if nothing else, she should be commended for that!
Remember she has our full support. I talked with her at length about doing what she did. I made sure she understood all the problems she could face.
Being commended is not enough. She is a hero in my eyes a true champion.
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:39 PM One should never commend evil...
This is so true discrimination is evil.
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:43 PM im sorry, but are you saying that being a lesbian is evil? oh dear god...we have been over this a thousand times, and as you may or may not know, vicky is the expert in this area (pls dont get her started)...i do think that your equating homosexuality with evil is totally archaic and small-minded.
Well said
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:45 PM You are what you do.
A killer is somebody who kills.
A thief is somebody who steals.
A lesbian is a woman who prefers women.
Ok then
a heterosexual is someone who prefers the opposite sex.
what your point???
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:48 PM If she won then they should give her what she deserves. It's their fault and not hers'.
This should be a valuable lesson for all pageant committees as to the importance of establishing laws and guidelines when it comes to public events such as these.
Cool and as soon as they do that they are in breach of the Constitution of the Bahamas.
Vicky 09-01-05, - 05:49 PM So what's their side of the story??
They have not responded that I know of to date.
Vicky 09-01-05, - 06:57 PM I was at the hospital all day with my Dad so I was out of touch. But I just got word that they have now officially striped her of the crown in a press conference today.
Ting-um 09-01-05, - 07:19 PM So how are their actions unjustified if nobody knows their side of the story.
Vicky:
My point was -- you *ARE* what you *DO*..... a christian *ACTS* christian-like. A killer *ACTS* killer-like. You can't separate the two.
BAHMIA 09-01-05, - 07:20 PM Some pageants have stripped away from women who pose nude or had 'questionable' morals. I don't see why facing their conservative opinions is something new or makes this lil skinny chick special.
Being a lesbain doesn't make her morals questionable or make the young lady a bad person. As Miss Teen Bahamas, she would have been a good ambassador for homosexuals. I keep hearing "this place outta orda", etc. but it's time for the Bahamas to move forward.
BAHMIA 09-01-05, - 07:22 PM You only have part of the story. Her ex girlfriends girlfriend exposed her.
If her ex girlfriend had another girlfriend, then why would the girl in question blab? :dgi:

It is very unfortunate that such blatant discrimination still exists in the Bahamas. I admire her for 'coming out' and hope she doesn't suffer too much for it. The saddest part is that she won't receive the COB educational prize. Denying her an opportunity to further herself is the worst thing they could have done.

What?
So she likes women; that doesn't make her a Christian or a killer. The fact that the committee ignored her requests shows that they weren't "tuning in" to her reign. If the committee was religious/spiritual I could see the fuss being made, but they're in the business of selecting promising young ladies, of whom Ms. Donald is one. Either way, if sexual orientation is (not) in the bylaws, they will need to address this by Oct./Nov. 2005. Taking the title away sends a terrible message.

We are understand some sort of rivalry.

This is true a bigot discriminates. No argument with what you have said.
But I have yet to meet a Christian that is a Christian. But my view of a Christian is very different.
I think we will know at 7pm channel 12. All attempts to reach them have come up with nothing.
islandgyal 09-01-05, - 08:01 PM Well, all I can say is that Miz Teen Bahamas is quite brave to come out of the closet in this very conservative country. And if the committee member had not threatened to out her before the end of the reign, frankly we would not have known any better. As if we needed to know whether she was straight or gay or heading straight to the convent ;-)!
