Ok First of all I am new here so....Hello people :)
This issue really disturbed me.
#1. The Miss Teen Bahamas Committee should have stated the rules and regulations bafter there committe was formed.
#2. Its not her fault that she is gay and that the committee didn't take the time to explore all possible avenues when they were forming their rules and regulations. If they had stated that the pagent was not open to lesbians (which is discrimination) then she would have never entered the competition. What can they say now, Only christians need apply? They might as well say no fornicators, no adulterous, no liers, no smokers etc...Oh wait, then they would never get any contestants!
#3. Someone said earlier that she should not have admitted to her lifestyle when she was asked on behalf of the committee. My point is, it should have never been asked! Simple. If she had choosed to lie and deny her lifestyle and they believed that she was indeed gay, they would have investigated it. This way, they would have been able to disguise the real issue as to why they were stripping her. She would have been stripped for lying on top of discrimination. Therefore, I commend her for being honest. Why hide that? Its apart of her! She choosed the lifestyle so keep it real.
#4. This was by all means discrimination. I read an article in the paper( I will check to see if I still have that paper) and I am going to roughly state what I recalled was said. Rashea Sands was saying that she was very upset by the lesbian issue. Why? Seeing that she is a christian and that she is soon due to have a child of her own she said it was very very upseting, and it really bothered her. Um.... correct me if I am wrong, was this girl stripped based on personal reasons of the members of the committee or was she stripped because it went against everything that the committee stood for? Sounds personal to me. Obvious to me, it wasn't based on what the committee stood for because what they stood for would have been clearly started from the beginning.
My personal opinion! This girl was stripped based on personal opinions. Personal opinions can be influenced by what the people of this so called christian nation would have thought about the commitee, its chairpersons, executives etc. I think that the commitee should have left it alone, let her continue her reign (seems like the only thing she won was a title and bragging rights) so its not like the comittee would have loosed anything. Then they would have known better for the upcoming pagent. They would have been better prepared more focused and more maybe by then they would have known (and stated clearly) what they were looking for in a queen.
By the way, I hate people who always trying to fight this gay and lesbian thing. Why the hell are you so concerned about what people do in their personal life. can you save the world? I think not. If she wants to be gay then let her. Ray ray rah rah with all that 'oh but we are a christian nation' crap. I am so tired of hearing that. we are not a christian nation. Yes we embrace christianity, yes we embrace churches in our country yes we believe in God but if we have liars for pastors, and fornicators for pastors then no we are not a christain nation. My point is deal with the head then deal with the little people. get it together. We strive to be a christian nation and yes it sounds good to say that but are we really? Everyone answers to God for themselves so just kill it.
