View Full Version : Miss (Lesbian) Teen Bahamas RockWell 09-02-05, - 08:54 PM sorry Marichal...i did mentally note previously that you are a bit slower than the others...out of 'the closet' my love. :shaky: What closet ohhhhhhh wise one? Abiskan Moon-Angel 09-02-05, - 09:11 PM  pick up your copy of the punch..then put 2 and 2 together... chancellor 09-03-05, - 12:20 AM I just saw this story in the papers today and after looking at the bahama Journal article provided by angel, I just had to laugh out loud! Even though we constantly debate the gay/same sex issue in The Bahamas, it ususaly was hypothetical or tourist connected things. But I never thought in a million years I would see this actually happening.....A Bahamian, brought to a public position and actually admitting to their homosexuallity. I come to the sentiment of Abaskin Moon Angel......WOW. This whole thing came about because of people who want to bring others down, just like in many other cases. This time her "close freinds" found the perfect weapon against this young lady, which is unfortunate. It was a forced hand. She never really wanted to come out as people would say. But after the alligations, how could she deny what she has been practicing. After all what happened in her bed was supposed to be her business and for her to deal with whatever consequences. The Pagent Committee did not present a clear statement when asked would they allow any contestant to reign conscious of the fact. In fact they hesitated and brought the meeting to an end. However, she did fail to perform many of her duties proving that she ws not able to fullfill them. But if this was the case why did they not strip her in the first place instead of highlighting the situation now? What would make it discrimination if they moved forward without the lesbian memo or only after the memo was presented. In any event they should give the queen what she rightfully won. The delay or blatant refusal of prizes (sometimes missing) has been the issue long before this and it would be sad that her orientation is the reason behind this. In times like these people need to be impartial despite their personnal reservations. When being impartial, it is always a matter of basic principle rather than personal or general perceptions. Teniel 09-03-05, - 12:45 AM I have been away from Nassau toooo long. When my sister first told me of this story, I ran to the net to see what was up. Lawd wat is dis! Scandal, Scandal , Scandal. This young girl doesnt know the kind of problems she will have to deal with, she should have denied it till the end, or at least until she was done with her tenure as Miss Teen Bahamas. Other than that she may be on some personal mission to use GLBT issues as her platform (bet she didnt mention that when she was first up on stage). I laughed my behind off with her behind that Rainbow flag. Vicky, where you find a rainbow flag that big, and in Nassau of all places? In any event this girls sexual orientation has no place in the mouths and ears of the public. She need to fix the business of those gals that rattted her out (and this is just a figure of speech BTW). I doubt that she wanted to make her lesbianism public fodder. I tink da gyal would have had more sense than that. In any event, all I can do is laugh my head off. Lawd wat is dis! Rev. Green must be rolling over wit da sweat! Teniel 09-03-05, - 01:06 AM because the bahamas is one of the more homophobic countries in the world! (right up there w/ Jamaica, the other caribbean islands and Africa)! das MY 5 cents! Abiskan, you are grossly, grossly incorrect with that statement. It is in fact nothing more but a product of your emotional bias for the situation. The Bahamas as homophobic as Jamaica.....uh uh come again. We are far friendlier andd tolerable, believe me. I think all of us know that. Yes we are a conservative society, but dont make it seem as though Bahamians go around lynching every 'soft man' they see. Vicky 09-03-05, - 07:09 AM I must admit that I am fairly conservative in my religious views and liberal in social justice and fair play when it comes to my fellow human beings whether gay or straight. Those who know me will tell that I am known for "biting the head off foolishness" wherever it appears (church, parliament etc). The first question I encountered the morning when the young lady's story appeared in the paper was: " So what do you think now"? "Boy I am too mad to reply right now...let my nerves settle first". :screw: I did not know what I was feeling...here is this girl, big as billy right in ma face saying she gay like she mad at we straight people...and on the other hand the committee says she must give up the title because of sexual preferences! After thinking for the entire day, I settled in my mind that no matter my inner religious feelings about sexual preferences, I must stand four-squares behind that young lady and the position that being gay is not what the contest was all about! She was the best out of the group! I cannot accept the position that she can only be free to pursue her dreams in this country if she's not gay. My conservative brothers, I am sorry...I am afraid that I must now break ranks and support justice and fair play...for the good of my nation! If we can tell this girl that she is unfit to excel because of homosexuality, then lets go all the way and make all pastors, teachers, politicians and, yes, pageagent committee members who are accused of being gay to move from their positions as well! Otherwise, just chill...the kid is good, even if she lil brassy with it...don't send the message that she is no good because she is gay! That is too big a piece for even an old prude like me to swallow in one gulp! If she did something wrong, then I can feel settled with their decision. NOW I FEEL OBLIGATED TO MARCH WITH THAT YOUNG BAHAMIAN WOMEN TO PROTECT HER RIGHT TO JUDGED ON HER MERIT AND NOT SEXUAL PREFERENCE! GEE, I WONDER WHAT THEY GER CALL ME WHEN THEY SEE ME MARCHING BEHIND THE YOUNG LADY WITH A BIG PLACARD THAT SAYS: INJUSTICE FOR ONE MEANS NO JUSTICE FOR ALL! :D I know I am proud of you. Equality for all or no one is equal. Vicky 09-03-05, - 07:16 AM Hope you march for all the overweight, short, ugly and just downright unpopular girls at the same time.As for the committee," how dear they try & set standards for their pagent, especially when the committee talks of Christian morals and one of its own members is very pregnant and unwed.... HHHHhhmmm I smell hypocrites. I say off with their heads!" :sarcastic Vicky 09-03-05, - 07:30 AM I have been away from Nassau toooo long. I laughed my behind off with her behind that Rainbow flag. Vicky, where you find a rainbow flag that big, and in Nassau of all places? What can I say I have a big rainbow flag. Its been flown during the cruise protests its used at the center when we have cookouts to raise money for rent and stuff. A lesbian brought it back from the US for me. In any event this girls sexual orientation has no place in the mouths and ears of the public. Are you saying she should be ashamed of who she is???? She need to fix the business of those gals that rattted her out (and this is just a figure of speech BTW). I doubt that she wanted to make her lesbianism public fodder. Teniel 09-03-05, - 12:03 PM Are you saying she should be ashamed of who she is???? No, I am saying that it wasnt necessary for her or anyone else to proclaim to the Bahamian public that she is a lesbian. It was totally unnecessary, and this girl will realize that soon enough. clint charlton 09-03-05, - 12:51 PM this is one of those things when i was growing up that you don't talk about, hell you had to be mad to talk about it in public, yet for myself what dose ones sexual orientation have to do with ones character, i wonder more about the character of people who disparage those due to sexual orientation. bahmaboy 09-03-05, - 12:51 PM :biggie: GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY :biggie: ok the bahamas really gone american on this one. while reading the story, lookin at pics, and reading the discussion on this thread. i kept thinkin this is the kind of crap that distingushed the BA from USA, CAN and the rest. i am still in shock there is a rainbow alliance there, whats next? gay/straight alliance clubs in government schools, now if yall wanna c the nation in uproar yall try that. total shock. the bahamas is definalty slowly moving toward a revolution. i read all of the post, so it too much to comment on and i believe yall know would i would say n e way. so i will only comment on the most outrageous factors of this convo: to canwry: i found it very pretenous of you to assume this girl is bi-curious. newflash: you neva met her and u dont know what she likes in the sac. to every one that says they r tired of gay threads or THOSE THAT DONT THINK ITS AN ISSUE IN THE BAHAMAS: yall cant be and it definatly is cuase this thread got well over 100 post in 3 days. to angel: i would have to agree with that other person i think jamaicans/jamaica is far more intolarant of gays. the BA isnt as bad as the JA where there are songs on national radio callin for the destruction of "batty bwoys" but it has a way to go. Teniel 09-03-05, - 12:58 PM ok the bahamas really gone american on this one. while reading the story, lookin at pics, and reading the discussion on this thread. i kept thinkin this is the kind of crap that distingushed the BA from USA, CAN and the rest. Man homosexuality is to be found in every nation, how it become an American thing all of a sudden, and all of a sudden the Bahamas cant be distinguished form America...foolishness. I am sure people have come out of the closet in other countries in the region. In their case, they probably received more fire, but this aint no revolution. If the Bahamian gov decides to make same sex marriages legal, then that is a revolution. i am still in shock there is a rainbow alliance there, whats next? gay/straight alliance clubs in government schools, now if yall wanna c the nation in uproar yall try that. total shock. the bahamas is definalty slowly moving toward a revolution Those types of orgs. are found all over the region, there is one even in Jamaica (JFLAG), though they do their proceedings in a secret manner for obvious reasons. Vicky 09-03-05, - 01:29 PM No, I am saying that it wasnt necessary for her or anyone else to proclaim to the Bahamian public that she is a lesbian. It was totally unnecessary, and this girl will realize that soon enough. She had no choice it was that or be blackmailed out of her title. Give up the title quietly or we will embarrass you by stripping you in public. She did one up and came out with dignity. Vicky 09-03-05, - 01:31 PM this is one of those things when i was growing up that you don't talk about, hell you had to be mad to talk about it in public,Times are changing. yet for myself what dose ones sexual orientation have to do with ones character, i wonder more about the character of people who disparage those due to sexual orientation. well said garnelleo 09-03-05, - 02:35 PM It doesnt have anything to do with character. I knew her briefly from ENG 119 class, and I can remember she was quiet, she missed some classes cuz her dad died (i think), and I can remember he asking her to buy some tickets for the competition. Bottom line is that if she did anything against what was explicitly stated then she should be stripped but if not then she should sue. |
