Saw that Law and Order SVU episode a while back. Did not know it was based on a true story.

I have a cousin who was 'intersexed' (I think you are calling it). Born with both organs. The doctors told the parents to choose which sex they wanted the child to be. They opted for a son and he grew up to be the prettiest most female guy I know. And he is not homesexual as far as I know. This was years ago though. Hes in his twenties.
Are you saying his Identity is male and his body apperance is female? Or is his gender identity female if his identity is male he is lucky they guessed right. Can you imagine the hell his life would be like if they were wrong???? Having your gender not match your sex is hell I know. Please I would like to meet him talk with him. How was he groing up??

I also heard that what they do now when babies are born with both sexual organs is to check them for womb and ovaries etc. If such organs are present then the child is considered a girl, if not a boy. They also encourage some parents not to remove any organs until the 'sex' manifest itself. (what ever that means)

They are discovering that this is the best way because to many mistakes were made in the past. It took a lot in intersexuals to stand up for this to happen. The even called on IFGE which brought in transgender folk.

Hormones will make the body feminine during and after puberty and can have a dramatic effect on emotions. But it’s the hormones in the womb that form the identity within the brain. Bruce was not put on hormones until puberty and as I understand he rebelled against being a girl then as well. But it will make a female body like a mans and it also has an effect on t emotions and sex drive.
This thread like the experiment blows the nurture/choice vs nature theory out of the water.

Yes, a doctor from the 70s does have limited understanding when most of the breathroughs have only recently been brought to light.

No. He would compare himself to other girls. And a child cannot and does not comprehend gender roles. Which is why little boys will play with dolls until their father tell them "no, girls play with dolls". The only notion a child would have of gender identity is physical. With lack of evidence -- for example, a *VAGINA* -- then you create a problem.

Yeah his identity is male but he looks more like a girl and has been taken for one 'forever'. As a teenager he let his hair grow and it became worse.
