Three step approach so that you don't end up with detox symntoms like yours. I had to remove the patch at night because I got some nightmares (ever had a giant cigarette chase you?), but after 6 weeks, I was A-OK. I think they have clear patches now as well. Once you get past the oral fixation (having the actual smoke in your mouth), you've won much of the battle. The patch give you less as less nicotine as you go through the steps, so you don't have the cold turkey problems. The good thing is that if you smoke a real cigarette within 5 hours of having a patch on, you get SICK! Trust me on this - it ain't pretty! Then I split up with my girlfriend a few months ago so I'm back to smoking, albeit much less than before! Too much stress, I guess. I'll quit again soon, probably by the same method. Good luck! It is a hard thing to do. Best of luck! I am reminded of the guy that said "Quitting is easy, I have done it hundreds of times!!" Here is an exercise you might want to do. Figure out how much it costs you per year to smoke. Let us say a pack of cigs cost $5.00 if one smokes one pack a day that is $1,825 a year! Not to mention the cost of matches or lighters, ash trays, burned holes in clothing, furniture etc. Now there is another good incentive to quit! That is $3,865.35!!!! Quit and open a saving account and put that 3,000 + in it. 10 years from now you will have $38,653.50 :dancer2: P.S. One cig on Sundays would just be an annoyance! Soon it would drift to two, then ten, then you are back where you started. casualobserver 09-14-05, - 09:30 AM My God!!! That is $3,865.35!!!! If you're addicted, you're addicted. Crack smokers don't like the cost of crack, but they keep buying it! Sure, you are right but the economics of it is just one factor that in some cases helps one to decide to quit. casualobserver 09-14-05, - 09:42 AM oooooo thanks for that! but im so weary of these patch things...makes me feel like im actually addicted (which ok, ok, i am), but you know how it is! 6 weeks and that was it eh? one of my problems like smokers is the oral fixation actually...but i smell smokers or the bus, etc, and think...ew dont want to end up like that! do i need a prescription for this patch? does it make you feel ill at all, or is it only when you actually smoke? No, I didn't feel ill while wearing it at all. I did have some nervous energy, but that could be from not knowing what to do during slow times, when I'd usually go for a smoke. I put the patches on the top of my arm, near the shoulder. Because of the movement of my arms, sometimes the adhesive would cause a blister on my skin. I called them my war wounds, but if you wear sleeveless blouses, etc, I would recommend (you being female) that you find a different location. They recommended, the back of the shoulder, the lumbar area, a butt cheek, or in the pelvic area near where your appendix is/was. No prescription needed, but I bought mine in the US. About $90 for step 1 (14 days). Pricey, but worth it if you really want to stop. When I quit, I made sure not to sound like one of those "Cigarettes kill" hypocrits who start preaching to those still addicted. It was my choice to stop as it is yours and everyone elses. I wish you the best, but will say that it was quite liberating and confining at the same time. I put on about 30 pounds after I quit, even with some exercise. It was nice not to be a slave to the smokes, but not so nice to find my wardrobe didn't fit. About a year later, I started to lose the weight again, but my metabolism has changed quite a bit. It could be the 'in my 30's' change of life, but maybe the cessation of smoking contributed too. YorickBrown 09-14-05, - 09:43 AM Here's another way to quit that seems a bit overboard, but it worked for a friend. He bought a entire carton of cigarettes and smoked his way through it until he literally made himself sick. He was missing in action for a few days, but he never touched a cigarette again. Risky, but it worked (for him at least). CG 09-14-05, - 09:51 AM Here's another way to quit that seems a bit overboard, but it worked for a friend. Many years ago, when I was a kid, my Grandfather caught me smoking one of his strong Indian cigars. Two puff were enough for me but he made me smoke it all! As I turned a bright shade of green, he offer me another!!!! Did not take him up on the "offer." Have not smoke a cigar since. In fact the smell of a cigar makes me whimper!!!! :shaky: casualobserver 09-14-05, - 10:04 AM When you think about it, it is a dangerous thing to do nicotine poisoning might result. I don't smoke indoors either - don't like it hanging around my head having to rebreathe it over again... Abiskan Moon-Angel 09-14-05, - 10:24 AM No, I didn't feel ill while wearing it at all.
